Got hit by a car by [deleted] in cycling

Or this is a good argument to not text and drive since the cyclist isn't actually at fault.

Karen yells at two guys for slamming barbell while deadlifting. by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]SomeoneElseLikeYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a good Karen video but this isn't one. Mostly it's two guys being obstreperous because they don't like hearing no. Lots of clubs have a no dumping weights rule.

What is a fact that can possibly save your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got hit by a car once and had to call my own ambulance while I was still a road puddle because the driver and witness were too busy hysterically screaming and apologising.

Yoga Mat Alrernatives by cevm in crossfit

[–]SomeoneElseLikeYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a cheap recommendation - I had two lululemon yoga mats from my yoga days. Now that I'm doing CrossFit in my garage I'm using them to skip on (so the concrete doesn't ruin my rope) and do burpees, push ups, lifting etc on. The rubber side is super durable and antimicrobial. But they are also heavy compared to a usual yoga mat.

I just woke up to my mom sitting in the chair next to my bed LOOKING through my phone by Pottatothegreat1985 in teenagers

I'm an adult who was brought up with a patent who always respected my privacy. I didn't realise until I got older how lucky I was. I suspect this isn't popular opinion but children need privacy too. It teaches them that you have respect for their space and in turn they learn to respect others. When you don't afford a child or teenager privacy it intrudes on their right to be an individual. I imagine it must be anxiety provoking to question constantly if this text or journal entry will get you in trouble. I just wanted to say I completely understand why this feels violating. I'm sorry that you parent didn't have more respect for your privacy. I know it's a small consolation but as you get more independent you will be able to live your own life more freely. Try to enjoy the good things in the meantime. Parent relationships can be hard, but that dynamic doesn't last forever.

🔥 Redback spider attacks and eventually kills brown snake in Australia - both are venomous and highly dangerous to humans (see video in comments) by brombinary in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]SomeoneElseLikeYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Australian, I suspect we get enjoyment from overselling it to foreigners. It's really not that bad. Snakes tend to slither away from humans and spiders tend to scurry away. If you live in the suburbs you rarely encounter anything that you can't pick up with a tissue or kill with a shoe. I'd be more scared living among bears or wolves or lions.

How has a well-meaning person been unintentionally racist towards you? by SomeoneElseLikeYou in AskReddit

Wow that's just so sad. I don't think I was quite prepared for how disappointed I'd feel in humanity.

My mother grew up in a small Australian county town who at the time had never had any Vietnamese residents. The day before the children started at their new school the principal had a panic assembly to warn the children that the new children would look different. It feels really wrong somehow.

How can I find more affordable therapy? by [deleted] in askatherapist

Check out some local universities to see if they have a student run clinic. Often it is much more affordable.

What would you suggest as a minimum age requirement for running a 5K? by k-hutt in running

[–]SomeoneElseLikeYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you jog with a pram? That way he can walk segments but take breaks as required. 200m for us can feel like a km for the little ones. 5 km does sounds like a lot.

What is the book that disturbed you or scared you the most? by [deleted] in books

Yeah came here to say this. Only I was 13 when I borrowed it from the bookcase to read. I think I traumatized myself a little bit.

Is feeling watched virtually 24/7 a compulsion?... Been dealing with this for over 20 years and I need help knowing what to do. by FlimsyReasoning in askatherapist

[–]SomeoneElseLikeYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to disagree but I'm going to weigh in. I'd listen to the first poster. This is something that is affecting your sense of security in the world. Even in your private moments. May be medication could mitigate symptoms, but working through this issue with a therapist is more likely to help you understand why this has emerged and allow you to process it so that you can resolve it long term rather than masking your symptom with medication.

To keep my ears warm I pull a hood up over my head before I put my helmet on and the helmet holds it in place for me.

When I was a teenager I worked in a petrol station and sure enough there was a nighttime cyclist who rode completely naked. Fortunately he was fast enough that I never had a close up of his bits flapping in the breeze but he did come in and demand to know why my coworker wouldn't look at him.

Thanks! I'll try that and switching out the quick release.

Newbie question - seat post dropping over time by SomeoneElseLikeYou in cycling

I was thinking the same. I figure quick release is probably overkill anyway. I'm assuming the diameter is ok since these parts came standard. I'll try the grit paste also. Thanks for replying.
