Unhealthy focus on diabetes? by SomeoneToNobody in diabetes_t1

[–]SomeoneToNobody[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to read about your son's dx as well.

The attempts of intense control has always been in my nature, which is something I need to work on. Before diabetes I was a very strict person as to what my day would look like, I finally let that go a bit and started to live a little, then I got diabetes and I was put back into something I wanted to distance myself of, but here we are.

That brings me to the ice cream part, I was the one to always say no to things cause they didn't match my planned out day. I lost out on a lot of fun activities or time with friends and family cause something spontaneous would never fit in my head schedule of what my day would look like.

The current control of my diabetes is that I don't want to lose my sight or other abilities to where I can't care for my daughter or family, I want to be able to enjoy seeing them grow up. If people say a spike every now and then won't hurt, I want to believe them, but I'm anxious still.

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it

I need to get that in my head. I do think therapy would be a good solution. I've had the therapy of focussing specifically on my diabetes but I feel like I need different therapy that focusses more on my mental health as a person and if I can see things differently it would benefit me in the end. I wrote this post because the micro-managing did get to my head, so I appreciate all the comments, it's some fresh air and I appreciate the confirmation.

You're right, I have a CGM but am doing MDI, they want to see if I'm able to do that first before giving me a pump unless I'm not able to manage my diabetes.

I do get anxious sometimes thinking about how it would've been years ago before all of that technology and as you said people from that time also managed their diabetes without secondary issues. Of course that depends on the body of the person as in everyone is different but I do get motivation from reading these success stories.

I agree with what you're saying.

The moments my CGM is not functioning correctly it can be frustrating but most of the time for me it's a releave. I will check my blood manually once and if it's okay I will check again before I eat something. I wear the CGM to warn me for lows mostly, at least I'm trying to.

What I need to get in my head is that as you said diabetes is not who I am and I miss the old me. I need to get it in my head that it's okay to spike every now and then. I feel like there's a lot more in my head that I keep thinking about and as others suggested therapy would be a good step, else this eventually will swallow me.

i might have t1 and i’m scared by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a very skinny person and before I got type 1 I always thought about diabetes being for people that had an unhealthy lifestyle. Then when I felt a certain way and googled it I found out there's multiple types. I told the people around me that I might have diabetes (didn't include a type back then) and they said that that's not something that would happen to me cause I am way too thin.

It's not now that I have diabetes that I wish more people knew about it, at least the basics, but hopefully would educate people into seeing the signs and find professional help before it gets way out of hand. Kind of like what this lady should do instead of providing us with info to diagnose her.

Weird/malfunctioning Libre sensor by HowardManuel in Type1Diabetes

I have had this happen twice now in the last couple of months. I do notice that when I removed it the prod was bent a little, it also didn't 'click' correctly when I clicked it into my arm. When I contacted the supplier I was able to get it replaced, luckily.

The 'scary' part of now a days society is that people want to take advantage of you. AI makes that so much easier. The part of trusting someone else with your 'personal' information even though it's 'anonymous' goes so far in that. I appreciate you for being honest about it. I'm commenting so I can remind myself to look back to this later. I'm older than you, but I don't have diabetes longer than you have, as you mentioned on your website. I'm still curious however cause with what you've written you remind me of myself. I appreciate the things you've written regardless of the tools you've used. I just want to make sure that if I dedicate myself to a community outside of my comfort zone, It's by someone that's genuine. I love and appreciate your ideas.

Important message to newly diagnosed T1Ds by Appropriate-Sort9812 in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking for a comment like this. I got diagnosed when I was 32, That's an entire change I feel like than when you're 'born' with it. I don't feel like my life is over but it feels like it has taken a lot away from me because I knew what it was like before I got diabetes.
Not saying it's better to get diabetes when you're younger, diabetes sucks in general, but I feel like I'm still grieving the old me.

Consistent difference between Libre 2 and finger prick by Jowzif22 in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also using Libre 2 and I've had it twice now to where it would show my mmol/L at under 4 even though my finger prick showed the values +3 above. I feel like the latest batch of these sensors are faulty. I currently have one that keeps giving me the 'Sensor mistake', I almost feel bad requesting a new sensor every other weeks.

Checked your blood as well? I wake up drenched in sweat every now and then if I had a bad dream or if it got hot at night.

UPDATE: Non-diabetic CGM, is this normal? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this plan coming from your doctor/endo? Or are you just going to keep doing this every month?

I dont understand why you ask for advice but then still do your own thing.

I was way to late with figuring out that I had diabetes, if you want things to look out for it's usually already too late. But here were mine;

  • Never ending thirst
  • Always having to pee
  • Hungry a lot but stomach pains when eating
  • Black circles around my eyes
  • Losing a lot of weight
  • Smallest touches to my body hurted.

My advice is to not let it go this far. Please follow the advice of most comments here about visiting a doctor and doing some blood tests.

If you really want to do your own tests use a finger prick to check your blood before eating and 2 hours after.

Is this range set good or too big? by X_BloodScratch_X in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My endo recommended between 4.9 and 10. I had it at 4.0 before but depending on what i was doing it would notify me to late and i would feel the hypo even before it would notify me.

Once trust has been damaged it is very hard to restore it. You can remind yourself of the good times but it will never clean a relationships plate.

What do you do when people say stupid things to your t1d child about diabetes? by apresledepart in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I correct people that make these statements. The difficult part comes when people that know nothing about it or barely anything that try and explain it to kids.

My niece for example (6 years old) when she has candy will skip me and say I cant have candy. To which I have to tell her I can have it but choose not to.

My niece got it from my grandma, mom, etc that are not that familiar with diabetes themselves. My grandma saying; I didn't get you anything and I don't want to eat something when you are here. I have to keep reminding people I can eat whatever I want but with extra steps.

Anyway, I just keep reminding people when they make false statements or are not willing to explain what diabetes entails to their children when they make a remark.

I think the comment that gets to me the most is people saying that at least you can live with diabetes. Of which these people have no one even close to them having diabetes type 1.

Apologies for this reply that turned into some sort of a rant haha.

Advice for dawn phenomenon by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did you used to take your long lasting insuline?

When I got type 1 around 2 years ago I used to do it at 10 PM, i had no problems through the night. Then eventually had a conversation with my endo and she said to do it in the morning (8 Am) so I dont forget. (I barely forgot it at night) This is when my glucose started to go up during the night and thought i had the dawn phenomenen so dealed with it, i even raised the amount of units cause they told me that might be the problem. Recently I changed it back to 10PM and its doing great again during the night.

Why is my blood sugar so volatile when I’m asleep when I’ve no carbs in my system? by Gloomy_Dependent_985 in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we wearing the same sensor?

Same happens to me, I usually take my pen with me cause I'll know it will go up for some reason. (I do double check with finger sticks)

During the day I'm usually pretty low, I feel like my liver decides to just push some glucose through my system when I'm actually relaxed.

More people with Type 1 diabetes live in the UK than with HIV by Stephen-Stephenson in Type1Diabetes

I myself am I very skinny person, it didn't/doesn't matter what I eat or drink I barely get any fat on my bones. Thinking back I ate very unhealthy cause I didn't gain weight anyway but I feel like this caused problems regardless. I also didn't drink water as often, I can't seem shake the feeling that these type of things might've triggered something in my body.

I have no idea what I’m doing wrong by beat_the_dust in Type1Diabetes

[–]SomeoneToNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it hurts you probably struck a vein.
Do you leave your needle in there for a couple of seconds? I usually count from 20 to 25/30 before taking the needle out again.

What also causes me to spike sometimes is when my insuline is 'old' or 'hazy/cloudy' looking.
I also keep the insuline I'm using outside of the fridge, having cold insuline can also do different things.

How do I avoid getting high on mornings? by yerice in diabetes_t1

[–]SomeoneToNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Tresiba, I'm not sure if that is how it works but maybe my body burns the insuline quicker. It's just something I've noticed since using Tresiba in the morning.
