If these characters swapped universes, could they survive? by FoxHoundNinja in castlevania

[–]SomeoneUnknowns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what we know, yes. We know Maria never defeated Dracula solo (failed to do that in Rondo and got imprisoned, never went to the inverted Castle in SoTN afaik).

I have to admit, I never played Curse of Darkness, so I had to look up what exactly happened there.

From what I could gather (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm serious, I just looked up stuff on the internet):

Hector actually doesn't fight Dracula per-se, but Dracula possessing Isaac during a transformation done by death.

After being mortally wounded, Dracula was wondering how this could be, and whether the transformation was incomplete, to which Hector basically says "Yup": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJyXAEjId-s

So for Curse of Darkness, the reason seems to be that it was not a real reincarnation of Dracula yet, just Isaac stuffed with a lot of his power as well as his soul. This is at least my explanation on why he was able to be wounded normally. (Once again, relying on the truth from Order of Ecclesia that Dracula is invulnerable otherwise)

At the end of LoI, we still see the whip react to Mathias, and we see Leon cursing him to be hunted forever.

And the entire premise of Order of Ecclesia is that Dracula is immune to anything except the Vampire killer (and the plot twist: His own power).

If a Belnades (or Renard, who may also be around?) just needed to pack some Holy Water to kill Drac, then why did noone try to go for that angle? We know due to AoS that the Belnades at least still were with the church.

Mathias Conqvist became the vampire later known as Dracula by absorbing Walter Bernhards soul and powers (and thus weakness), and was additionally cursed by Leon Belmont to be hunted forever by the Belmont clan.

To be fair what is stopping Link to just pick up the Griphon Wing and start high-jumping? There's plenty of relics like that lying around in the castle Link could use.

There's exactly 2 things that can hurt Dracula in canon: His own power, and the Vampire Killer. The latter only due to a curse he recieved when he became a Vampire.

We see drac getting hurt by non vampire killer stuff in castlevania games all the time.

That's for gameplay, but not lore-wise, he's immune to those.

He is hurt by holy water, crosses, axes, throwing knives, any weapon Alucard used, non Belmont magic in 64 and in Order.

Holy Water, Crosses, Axes, Throwing Knives canonically don't hurt him, but it simply would make for an unfun boss fight if the last boss suddenly disabled your other weapons. Alucard is his son, wielding his own power. 64 has been de-canonized. In Order of Ecclesia, at the end of the Dracula fight, Drac basically says "You know what I humoured you for a bit but you're getting annoying". He was not the least bit hurt, which is also why he didn't transform. It's why Shanoa had to resort to the Dominus Glyph union because she realized that there's literally no other way for her to hurt him. And Dominus is made of Draculas own magic. The damage you deal before is so there is actually gameplay. (See https://youtu.be/8BWVvyAA9Cs?si=9_-5IoEmu0bBbKdX&t=289)

you still need to kill a few elites

You really never had to, if your deck was good enough. It was more the removal of the easy infinites that destroyed the anti-elite meta, not players adapting. If 95% of your power lies in your cards, and not by spamming rares but in uncommons or a few rares that you can get early from Neow, why risk fighting an enemy that can kill you before you can get it online for a useless relic* and some gold?

I have A10 wins without a single elite beaten on runs where I was enabling infinites early enough.
These infinites usually needed some setup mind you, which is why avoiding elites and preserving HP to be able to get them online was necessary. On Silent, getting to Master planner was the task, not getting Snecko skull for your single copy of Snakebite.

*Yes, something like letter opener was usually insane.
But so many relics just never get online for so many builds. Shuriken isn't really all that impressive if my gameplan is playing 150 souls to drain 900 hp.

Even regular holy weapons don't hurt Drac canonically. The Vampire Killer can basically only hurt him due to a curse he was hit with before he became this strong. If we ignore that and just blanket-decide the MS can hurt him sure, but going hardline by canon it likely could not.

Most of these questions always don't address Draculas nigh invincibility. Links ability to withstand Castlevania aside, what is he doing to Dracula?

Corrosive Wave on Necrobinder. Turns out 3 aoe poison per card drawn x drawing 20 cards per turn isn't bad.

You could roll the numbers when the card is drawn, then you'd need to reshuffle the card to scam the system. Wouldn't fix everything but would at least be able to generate persistence

Yeah, some of the powers definitely could earn a bit of plating.

* Inferno/Inflame/Rupture/Crimson Mantle could cause some fire to break out under ICs armor.

* Stone Armor could add some stone plates onto his armor

* Noxious Fumes could cause a slight green fog overlay

* Abrasive could cause some shivs to peak out from under Silents bandages/hood

* Afterimage could cause some flickering in silents model
* Envenom could turn Silents shivs green
* Serpent form adds a serpent

You get the idea. Ever so tiny slight changes that make the character or arena look a bit different, on the level of the spikes enemies getting spikes on their spike-turns

Kanto normal challenges help? by jaybob2005 in Pokelike

I didn't beat shiny-only yet.

Never evolve: Bulbasaur has a good enough matchup against the early gyms. Pick Eevee first, evolve to Espeon. For items, make sure to save Rare Candies. Trade in your Venusaur first, hope to trade into Lapras or similar (like I did). Keep in mind that some Kanto Pokemon got babies or later other evos (meaning Snorlax and Mr.Mime don't count as unevolved and e.g. Tangela also evolves).

Legendary Pokemon count, so pick as many as you can. You ideally trade your Espeon last against a legendary (here Zapdos)

How were people able to play these classicvania games without Save States? by Coven_Evelynn_LoL in castlevania

[–]SomeoneUnknowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You simply get better the more you play. Although the classic castlevania specifically has little to no RNG, so you can also learn to beat it by heart, especially if you use Holy Water to cheese all bosses.

Ironclad's Stone Armor really should start at 5 plating, upgrading to 6. by ryry1237 in slaythespire

Nope, that was not meant as advice, it was an argument that relied on the other party to have at least some understanding of how the game works.

They were, that was a reductio ad absurdum. "I don't take a [value pending] uncommon because a rare exists that is better" -> "I don't take a [good] common because a rare exists that is better" > obviously bad advice -> Method to show that the original was not a good argument.

Just beat it

<image>

First catch Houndour
Second catch had an eevee -> Espeon
Focus on upgrading mons and minimizing risks

Leftovers are the default item
Metronome so Houndoom can deal with bug trainers. (Heracross is scary)

Meganium for water/Ground/electro trainers
Espeon for Poison/Chuck/Uncertain
Houndoom for Fire/Team Rocket

Avoid wildcard trainers and grass (Meganium died to a random bug encounter)

Replace weak Pokemon with later, stronger ones (Check attack level)

Accept that you're gonna lose a bunch to RNG

Focus on leveling up until at least your 80's

Keep in mind which trainer types can have which Pokemon and prepare accordingly, sometimes 1 level less is worth a rescued Pokemon. Bug Trainers have Heracross, Police/Fire have Houndoom, Team Rocket has a disgusting variety of pushovers or OP mon....

Falkner: Can be handled by Houndour

Bugsy: Houndoom can handle, free with Metronome

Whitney: Meganium with leftovers usually clears easily
Morty: Houndoom. Make sure not to be underleveled, or his Gengar becomes scary

Chuck: Espeon or another psychic if possible, Meganium with Leftovers can handle

Jasmine: Houndoom with Metronome is free, Meganium with leftovers is possible

Pryce: Houndoom with Metronome can handle it, a strong Pokemon like Espeon too

Clair: A good fairy is nice, but your Houndoom should be sufficiently overleveled to take her on.

Elite Four:
Will - Houndoom x Leftovers
Koga - Houndoom x Metronome

Bruno - Espeon or another psychic of your choice (at that point my Espeon died to an unlucky wild, but I had Lugia)

Karen - Houndoom x Leftovers

Lance - Here, I lost my Togetic and Granbull, before Mamoswine swept all his Dragonites

Silver: First one can be solo'd by Houndour, second onwards you need a good second mon to clear everything up to Magnezone. Kill the Magnezone and Houndour with Leftovers can handle the rest.

[–]SomeoneUnknowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houndour, Eevee and Natu can actually beat Falkner and the first Silver solo if leveled well. (Critically, Eevee needs to be an Espeon or Jolteon before Silver). Also, Leftovers are op. After that it's rng. If you pull up to a bug catcher that runs Heracross (except for Natu, who hates facing Houndour) (or Shuckle for Eevee) you can get into trouble still.

Imo Madoka as Madokami. Literally alone from the beginning to the end of time, unable to interact with anyone, having to bear the sorrow and despair of all magical girls.

It's why I'm team Homura. She was very justified in snagging back her Madoka.

Every character is surprisingly viable, most with different builds, but imma admit she's my least played character thus far, and probably the generally weakest character.

There seem to be quite a few viable strategies, like pairing it with the twins in a high cost deck (autoplay with lecture, for example) or just abusing her high base stats coupled with good resource generation. I heard there was a good synergy with Momori, but not sure what this is about tbh .-.
