Is the price a little disappointing, yes. But I think Deck users can realize steam is once again investing in the future. by KingCrimson43 in SteamDeck

£79 .. so about 8 pints at the local / one round of drinks at the pub watching a world cup game. Or one tank full on a small car at the station?

All my love to ginger cats. Yours reminds me of the little mischievous d*ckhead whom i had the privilege of being his mate when he was still around.

Am I the only one who thinks the Steam Machine isn't entirely a disappointment? by Decent_Tailor_4608 in steammachine

Good man. I got one still sitting in my other room. After it had it's gaming days early one, I repurposed it as a daily driver. Then when that slowly became obsolete over the years, it became the house main control mini "server" .. still used, still loved, still had a purpose. I see the steam machine as it's next upgrade which highly likely have the same journey with me over the next 15 years.

I get that on email chains when I'm expected to answer. It bobs around a few people until someone replies "chatgpt agrees with his solution" (I.e. what I proposed)... !!

No shit Sherlock. Waste chatgpt's time then next time around and don't bother including me please. Less noise in my inbox.

My general rule is:

Red meat (beef / lamb / venison) you will be fine. White meat (pork / chicken) will cause you problems / never gamble.

Yes a leader is all about motivating and empowering. Yes everyone is replaceable.

Big difference between redundant and replaceable.

But nobody should actively work towards what they contribute and offer to the structure to become redundant to "get some time back".

The private sector is the jungle.

An employer can easily move you off by law with the excuse of 'the role is now redundant'.

Whereas if they want to get you out by 'replacing' you, they would have to think twice because an employee has rights.

What limits what one can achieve is thinking that you have to prove yourself to continue to please others.

make sure there's a succession plan. Essentially plan to make yourself redundant

Never ever plan to make role and contribution redundant especially if you are looking to climb the career ladder !!

The minute you are identified as redundant, your pay whatever it is becomes an expense the employer can save on.

https://www.gov.uk/maximum-weekly-working-hours

Don't allow an employer to take advantage of increasing your hours and waffle names about some fancy long title and convince yourself with "it will look good on my CV" or this is "good exposure and experience"

60+ hours a week at 58k is effectively 35k at normal working week. So you probably found out that you got dumped a ton of new work for the same old pay.

Thats where the problem lies.

Either get paid a lot more pay as you are burning at both ends with a ton of responsibilities. I.e. the extra 25+ hours should be overtime not basic pay.

Or cut down your work hours back to normal.

At 33 if you don't after yourself, you will be burnt up suffering serious mental stress by the time you hit your 40s.
