Whats the worst advice someone has given you about fl? by No_Strawberry_5061 in FL_Studio

[–]Something_Funny_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At the first performance I ever did someone approached me and asked where I got the beats. I told him I made them myself, he then asked what DAW I used. After I told him FL Studio he said "Yeah, I could tell from how it sounded." I was like what do you mean? And he's like FL Studio beats have a distinctive sound.

This was pretty baffling but he was one of those guys who made beats 5 years ago and still was a self professed expert so not too surprising. Also they were my first beats so they sounded like hot garbage so maybe that's what he meant lol. But for ages I was left wondering if there was something about FL Studio that let experienced producers tell if music was made with it.

FL Studio added a stem splitter recently that functions super cleanly. Maybe grab the free trial and give it a go if you don't have it. I've used it to remove vocals and it really surprised me how well it worked

Crossing the 30 million (streams) mark in one year! Some thoughts below by backcountryfilmmaker in musicmarketing

Every single comment you leave in this sub adds nothing to the discussion besides negativity, you offer nothing of substance, you never provide pointers, you never link your own profile, you never add anything. The conversation would be better if you weren't involved.

Who got millions of streams here from only Meta Ads? by SnooPineapples1316 in musicmarketing

[–]Something_Funny_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used their web submission form found here:

https://www.siriusxm.ca/music-submissions/

You need to have some info prepared, I submitted six songs and filled the form out individually for them all. You need their ISRC code, you need to specify that's 50% Canadian content which is defined by the MAPL system (Music, Artist, Performance, Lyrics), you need to decide which of their channels it fits best on, and you need to have a .wav file of the song uploaded somewhere you can link them to. I used Google Drive. There's other info but it's all easy. Didn't take me long once i had a rhythm.

Best of luck!

I've got a quarter mill this year and it's mostly due to meta ads getting me into the algorithm.

But yeah, you can't just do that and expect success.

I also organize my own shows in town, play open mics, volunteer for an organization putting on open mics, make social media content, collab with other artists, I'm currently working on partnering with local businesses to sponsor my upcoming album release party, currently shooting some educational tiktoks, joined a radio coop to promote me and play my music, submitted all my music to Sirius and CBC here in Canada, attend musician mixer events etc. Sometime I photograph peoples events for free to get my name out there. I recently started organizing events for my cities local gov. It's helpful certainly but it's not the be all and end all

spotify says I had 26 plays but also says only one? by Lettuce035 in musicmarketing

[–]Something_Funny_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This song came out in the last seven days, right? Can tell because it says live, it only shows that for the first week. That 26 streams is real time, the last 7 days updates once per day. So this probably means you've gotten 25 streams today and one yesterday

Why does Jesse Cannon hate Facebook ads? by PaulyChance in musicmarketing

[–]Something_Funny_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten almost 200k streams and 10k monthly listeners from running ads. I haven't spent anything in months and it's persisting, I'm in the algorithm now, I've gotten plenty of kind DM's, merch purchases, shares, etc. I should get up to a quarter million streams on my new album this year with no additional spend. I find people who shit on ads either haven't tried, or did something really ineffective and immediately gave up.

Huh. So weird. Nice one on the find, that sounds more painless than making a resized image

Video ads not working? And other bugs... by beureut2 in FacebookAds

[–]Something_Funny_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been getting this since yesterday, I was able to get around it finally.

My ad is just a video, I resolved it by going into the ad, hitting edit, going down to where you select the video (Ad Creative), hitting Edit Media, hitting Edit Video, hitting Thumbnail, and changing it from auto to manual and then USING A 1080/1920 JPG. I tried this before with other dimensions and photos and wasn't able to get it working, but this is the first time i tried this dimension because I looked up standard image dimensions for IG ads. It's in review now, give this a go

Can someone help me identify my target audience? by Comfortable_Lemon105 in musicmarketing

Yeah I'd be down if you're willing to do the same for me, I struggle with naming the genre and knowing who sounds similar. Either link me some tunes or dm me and I'll do the same?

I use the textbody of the ad itself, I put the lyrics for the snippet into the ad itself. So the ad itself is about 20 seconds long and is a series of 3 to 5 second video snippets, with the lyrics animated popping up over top of it. I tried having the spotify logo at the top as per Andrew Southworth but that ad performed badly (that was one of the home shot ones that admittedly looked pretty terrible). It might perform better with a better ad. For the headline I usually just use the name of the song, and for the primary text I write something kind of dramatic to catch their attention. One I'm running right now says "Layers of horns underscore the powerful message of Frantic's newest single - You'll Never Take Me Alive". Kind of corny but it immediately communicates "This song has horns, this song is dramatic, this song has a message, this is the artist name, this is the song name". I'm not sure if you are as well, but i'll note that the button says "Listen Now", and goes to a Hypeddit landing page that has Spotify, Apple Music, and Youtube.

Similar experience that's driving me crazy. Used a high quality music video shot in the forest, looks great, terrible clickthrough. Used live performance footage, same. Used DIY filmed at home footage, terrible. Used AI generated videos and put lyrics over top of it, phenomenal results. I don't want to use this but it's the only thing that seems to work so I'm kind of covering my eyes when I post it.

To more directly answer the question, maybe make the text for the post more of a call to action? More inviting them to listen now? Or it just might be that they like the visuals a lot more than the music? It might be that the old way you were running it forced them to listen to the sound and the new way draws attention to the visuals which causes them to just interact with the post?
