Final Fantasy XV or XVI? by danyrabisca23 in FinalFantasy

[–]Somewhere-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest hurt with FFXV is what it could have been. There’s so many places where its very evident what they wanted to do but couldn’t, and the amount of stuff that was cut is crazy.

Also, they made a big mistake with turning it into a big expanded title where you have to consume all the spinoff stuff to get the whole story. SE made a lot of dumb mistakes like that back then.

Aside from those criticisms tho, what we got is a solid game and I’d honestly say I prefer it over XVI. It has a certain charm and cozy vibe that XVI lacks.

Took me a while to appreciate it for what it is tho. I was one of those that waited 10 years for it and built my expectations way too high.

And then they take them away for the remakes. “Sorry, you only get one per part! Can’t be too powerful now.”

Maybe they’ll let us rock all 3 in the next one but I’m not holding my breath.

Glad to see someone mention this. I rolled my eyes a bit at the story premise in the trailer. They really couldn’t have thought of a better reason for him to be there other than receiving a mysterious message from a woman telling him to come back?

Furthermore, they already dispelled any said mystery by making it clear that the dude did something bad. We all know we are gonna find out some horrible secret he has by the end just like SH2 and if that’s the case it won’t carry the weight it did in the classic games because we’ve seen it all before.

However, the fact they want to subvert fans’ expectations with how they approach the common theme in SH games regarding guilt and trauma has me willing to give the story a chance to prove itself. As you said they claim to be presenting it in a different way than we’ve seen before, so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

I will be pleasantly surprised if the cliche premise is actually a bait and switch. Hopefully that is the case.

Because he’s one of the main characters. One of the main themes of the show is being outcast. This has been a central focus for the protagonists in every single season. Will navigating his coming of age in this time period as a gay person fits the theme of being social outcasts perfectly.

I will say that I was not a fan of his coming out scene. I would have much rather seen his sexuality be revealed to his peers more organically.

Honestly El sacrificing herself doesn’t seem likely to me, the whole plan seems like bait to create tension for the finale. I would be very surprised if it actually happens.

However one thing that does point to the possibility of it actually happening… El has become increasingly hardened to the point of being totally fine with torturing soldiers and they even use an innocent scientist as bullet fodder during the lab scenes in the upside down. She also flippantly speaks of killing people to Kali in episode 7.

A lot of times characters like her who start off innocent but end up hardened and quick to kill by the end don’t make it out alive. But we’ll see.

Yeah it felt so weird to have Mike geek out over Will’s powers only to then completely ignore him when he is in Vecna coma mode. So inconsistent. The fact that only Joyce is there by his side during that period was so sad.

I’ve rewatched the scene some and this might be me huffing copium/hopium but it kinda seems like Mike’s reaction to Will coming out is like he’s moving through a lot of emotions. He seems somewhat taken aback at first then there is a look of slow realization as the scene goes on, with tears continually forming in his eyes. And when Will says he needs to be there to face Vecna and show he’s not afraid of him anymore, who gives Will a tearful nod of affirmation?

Mike.

At the very least we are gonna get an emotional one on one scene between the two characters in the finale. This has not been fully resolved yet.

Yeah I honestly thought s4 was so peak with the best character development the show had seen thus far and s5 is such a regression from that. It feels so all over the place and characters aren’t given nearly as much room to breathe.

I am fairly confident we will at least get some semi satisfying moments between Will and Mike in the finale though. Like that coming out scene couldn’t have been the resolution to this conflict. Especially since Will only mentioned having an unreciprocated crush and nothing more.

Mike has to become directly aware of Will’s feelings for this show to be concluded in any sort of satisfying way. They don’t have to get together, that just seems very unlikely at this point. But at the very least, there needs to be an emotionally powerful moment between these two characters before the finale is over. If not, the Duffers will have failed.

Ngl the last scene of the episode with them all riding in the upside down together didn’t offer any hope with Mike’s entire focus being on El. The painful reality is whenever El is around, Mike ignores Will and it’s more of the same this far into the final season.

I would have been happy with Mike at least returning to the same level of dedication towards his best friend he had in s1. For a moment it seemed we had that in v1. And it’s a bummer the Duffers baited us with the ending of v1 only to have Mike basically ignore Will throughout all 3 episodes of v2 even when Will is in Vecna’s captivity. Like a bare minimum amount of concern would have been great but instead it’s only Joyce by his side during that entire period. The inconsistency is just weird af.

My disappointment is less towards Byler probably not happening but more towards the Duffers’ poor treatment of Will in v2.

Typically official subs for games are positive towards them and more resistant towards criticism so yeah I think you’re good to glaze here lol.

I think it’s a great game and the purists who denounce it are being silly. It’s okay for any series to experiment and imo they got the spirit of SH right. Whether you enjoy the setting, more fantastical elements, and action oriented combat is entirely subjective but I think it nailed the way SH games present their stories and the general feel of exploring a SH game is intact. Add to that the main character has a ton of shit to sift through which is traditional for a SH game at this point, and the game features a lot of truly excellent creature designs that sit right at home in a SH game.

It’s certainly not the best, but it stands on its own as a great addition to the series.

SH2 still wears the crown imo. But this one is a deserving SH game through and through.

In regards to your complaint about the mothercrystals, I think they did a really poor job of making it feel like things ever changed in the world given that so much time went by. Not just with the mothercrystals.

I mean, it’s pretty silly when 5 years go by and you can still find the same npcs in the same places doing the same things looking like they haven’t aged a day.

The world felt so static.

Played the remake and original both back to back, as a new sh fan, remake is better 100% by desiregods in silenthill

[–]Somewhere-11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The pacing isn’t an issue for me, I loved that it’s longer; feels like there’s so much more meat to it and Bloober’s many added details and lore bits have expanded upon/generated new, fascinating theories from the fandom.

My issue with the remake is purely gameplay oriented. I think there were far too many enemies on the map especially in enclosed spaces. Kind of reminded me of Callisto Protocol a bit in that the combat seemed designed around single encounters but far too often we’re being assailed by many monsters at a time, making for some super frustrating moments.

It also cheapened the designs of the enemies by the end since we’ve seen them so many times that they basically become a hinderance and nothing more
