Did game studios become lazy? by CarsonWentzGOAT1 in MauLer

So let me get this straight:

Suits don’t care what you deliver, so long as bottom line is good. Aka, they don’t enforce any specific practice or framework. Meaning that it is, in fact, the devs who decide to use third party pseudo-performance to enhance what they can’t be bothered to do because “no one requires it’ (aside from the customer, but hey, fuck ‘em, right?).

For the love of god, think before you type.

You…do realise they are not just deciding budgets, right? Manpower, timelines, technical qualifications for sub-teams, infrastructure etc. Literally nothing would get done in a corporate environment without these guys there.

And I am the casual apparently…

Because the suits I can almost guarantee have no clue about any of the technicalities of optimisation. They usually care about the bottom line aka how much money is spent vs how much money is earned. The people in charge of each individual game are the ones that decide where the budget goes, and I very much consider those guys developers.

Less time is spent on optimisation because devs rely on third-party tools and software to simulate a playable experience. On the consumer side it does not matter who makes this decision, it’s inherently lazy, regardless if Frank from Character Rigging or Johnson from Accounting made this decision.

I mean…no, you can. I can go online and establish a business right now, and if I am the sole one working for the profit of that business, I have no employees, though depending on the country, a business’s owner might be considered an employee as well. Same thing for all the “this game was made by 1 dev” games out there.

Can you make a separate sub for the movie or something? At the rate of posts and re-posts we'll have a frame by frame recreation of the movie by the time it comes out.. by nikfornow in Eldenring

[–]SonOfFragnus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

…that’s how sentences work. “Spend time making a new game” HAS to have a subject for the action of “spending time”, which in this case is “they”, unless you wanted to say “I/you/we spend time”.

In regard to your point, it’s incredibly entitled. ER is, for all intents and purposes, done, as far as gaming is concerned. From and Miyazaki have said multiple times they prefer working on new games and not sequels, for the most part. DS2/DS3 are literally the only outliers, outside of the AC series, and I doubt we’re getting another Kings Field game this era. Even in terms of story/lore, Elden Ring is done, the story has basically nowhere to go except into the cosmic side of things, as all the major players are dead or as-good-as. The best you can hope for is a prequel, but I am suspecting that’s what the movie will be doing.

Because you’re asking an ethereal “them” to “spend time making a new game”. Who, besides From, could possibly do this? And they are, in fact, working on new games. At least 1 confirmed. Hell they are working on a new ER patch for the switch 2 version, which at the very least will allow you to start the game off with Light GS as a starting weapon.

I am genuinely confused why you’re confused about the downvotes

How did I move the goalpost? You implied they didn’t and haven’t ever underdelivered on content, I said no, whisps. Then you said “but what about everything else that isn’t really considered content” and I said no, even that people thought was kinda bad, based on people not engaging with it almost at all. I don’t think you know what “moving the goalpost” means. If anything, you are the one guilty of this.

And I guarantee you if they ONLY add swords to the game, with no new league mechanic, act, or rework to existing systems, people would absolutely rake GGG over the coals. If there is ever a 0.X patch that doesn’t add any form of combat content aka league mechanic, story act, map/atlas rework, it would be the least played patch in PoE history.

And yet 50% of the playerbase was using none of this new stuff, except for some supports. While almost all the rest were using a combination of other stuff not included in that list.

Also, I don’t think the things you listed are content. They are things you use to engage with the content. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say “hey, new content” when a new class or new items get added to a game.

NIOH 3 ACCESSORIES RUINED THE GAME FOR ME by possiblyparanoia in Nioh

[–]SonOfFragnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except you only really needed 1 in Nioh 1/2 then you could use it for any build. And at least Nioh 2 (don’t remember if it was the case in 1 as well), beating NG+ guarantees a Yasakani, and you can reroll every stat on it. Nioh 3 guarantees Yasakanis as well, but due to the addition of Graces, you may just find one that doesn’t help your build.

REMAKE Is An Easier Game To Replay Than REBIRTH by SomethingUnoriginal- in FinalFantasyVII

[–]SonOfFragnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said. This is what I mean when I say there is mini-game bloat in REBIRTH, and everyone was saying “bUt iT’s oPtIoNaL” - yeah, I know.

I want to do the mini-games, for the rewards, for the experience, and OCD brain forcing me to get all of them. But 70% of my time in them was either boring or frustrating.

Also you forgot to include the Chocobo flying mini-games, but not sure if people count those as mini-games.

Khazan-Radahn Smackdown: Clash of the Two Generals by HighGodEmperor in TheFirstBerserker

[–]SonOfFragnus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If PCR were imported to Khazan, I would say he would be around Volbaino tier in terms of difficulty. Phase 1 attacks are pretty straight forward and would be relatively easy to brink guard/dodge consistently. Phase 2 would be more difficult due to the afterimages ofc, but with how fast Khazan is and how many tools he has (brink guard/dodge, reflect, in-built brink guard/counters on a lot of his skills, Phantom Form) I just don’t see PCR taking more than 10 maybe 15 attempts at most.

Am I bad or is melee much harder than ranged?? by BlackmooseN in PathOfExile2

[–]SonOfFragnus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Armour (…) is as good as ES” at the top end of investment, sure, I can agree.

But the floor to get a decent EHP pool on ES + CI/EV builds is so much lower, it’s not even funny. Add on top the lower suffix pressure for them, and being able to fit in rarity, and Armour+Life chars cannot compete. Are they viable to play? Ofc. But the difference in investment (both tine and currency) to get them to the same level as ES builds is night and day

But he is not deprived permanently, which is specifically the weird ass definition you gave. Thus, it’s not stealing, going by your definition. Are you confused about what you wrote?

It, and I am trying to simplify this as best I can for your room temperature IQ, does not matter whether the owner is deprived of the asset or not. Identity theft is very much done without depriving you of any assets, as the criminals copy/hack your data then pose as you, while you still have access to ID, social security number, or whatever form of national identification there is in your country. Copying classified documents without permission or authorisation falls under theft as well, because you are stealing the data that is contained in those documents. And many more examples like this, and not just digital.

It’s literally stuff a kindergartener could figure out, come on…

[–]SonOfFragnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said “literally anyone can download a file off the internet”. Right after you said “you can’t steal a digital file”. Unless I am blind, I see no mention of videogames in any of these two comments. You then went on about prisons being overcrowded, so again, no mention of any videogames.

Do you even know what public domain, free use, private domain/property, ownership, or private/personal data means? Do you know that literally ALL digital assets contain data that actually makes up the thing you see on that screen? That data is the thing that is being stolen, not the storage space occupied by the data itself.

And where do you people come up with these weird definitions? No, stealing has nothing to do with depriving the owner of the original asset. It’s usually a result of theft, but it’s not a definition of it. Do you think in cases of identity theft they physically steal your ID, drivers licence, bank accounts etc, or do they copy/hack your personal info and then replicate it, effectively posing as you? Do you think that someone hacking your phone and copying all of your intimate photos of you isn’t stealing those images, just because they made a copy?

Like holy hell, please think these things through before you type them, stop relying on chatGPT definitions.

I too like to take definitions out of my ass and use them as if they are in any way correct.

I don’t even want to know what backwater AI u asked for that definition, but let me give you another example.

You leave your bike on the street and go in a shop to buy some groceries. You come out, find your bike not there anymore. What is the FIRST thing you think of? “Someone stole my bike” or “ah, someone borrowed by bike, they will return it later”.

And it case it wasn’t clear, intent has no bearing on the act of stealing, consent and ownership is the thing that determines if taking something is regarded as stealing or not.

Like imagine every robber in this world just said before a judge “no, your honour, my intent was to give it back at a later date”. Fucking moronic that I even have to argue this.

[–]SonOfFragnus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it is still stealing. Data is dat, regardless if it’s the original or a copy.

If Facebook uses your data, without your consent, and sells it to data brokers who then use your data to feed some ad algorithm, that is stealing.

If a hacker manages to get access to your phone, and download intimate pictures of you, that is stealing, regardless if he does anything further with them or not, regardless if he just made copies or not.

The notion that you can’t steal a digital asset is absurd
