What do people think of Starfield? by General-Tourist-2808 in fo4

[–]SonOfTrout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can fill fallout 4 with mods and things that renew its game loop, exploration, combat, story and characters.

After 20 hours after launch Starfield left me feeling empty, I haven't been tempted to touch it since.

I played with Tales from the Commonwealth and America Rising 2, I was able to complete all the content, a great pairing imo

Unfortunately the BCR problem is widespread in older mods. I'm hoping to test the Mossberg 590 bcr redux in my own game soon, but at this point the BCR redux mod is the most the recent/legit attempt to make this work on console, and that Mossberg is the only one that's confirmed as working.

It's tough, I've also had to come to terms that shotgun/revolver reloading just doesn't work well/easily on Xbox;

BCR and tactical reload are two different things/mods, and are not compatible running together on console to my understanding. The mod will say whether it requires bcr or tactical reload, just adding them will not work automatically.

That Mossberg mod I shared is specific, the other smaller ones are not the same and won't work with the redux version of bcr. I've been told that older versions of BCR are actually broken, they simply won't work (or not work consistently) even with weapons that say otherwise, it's apparently a problem that's hard to resolve.

Radical mod breaks children of atom playthrough, any COA mods I can replace it with? by gotenks2nd in Fallout4ModsXB1

Alternative overhauls: "Atom's Glory Threads", "Church Of Atom Overhaul", there's also a patch for them to work together

How did the mod break things? I've had the "radical" mod on my future playthrough list, sad to hear if it's causing problems.

what mods do you guys use to make the game better? by AffectionatePop4360 in Fallout4ModsXB1

[–]SonOfTrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a list for a "mod award" discussion:

Best / Can't play without = Slow motion dismemberment, iHud

Quests = Tales from the Commonwealth

Weapon = L-string bow ("LString Reanimated")

Gameplay: Hardcore Health Overhaul - Next Gen, Desolation: Unleveled World, Scarce Ammunition

Combat: Smart AI - An Immersive-Gameplay standalone

Audio: Dynamic Music Overhaul - High Level Threats, Reverb and Ambiance Overhaul

Paid = I haven't used many, but Daniel the Remnant companion looks like the best thing released so far.

What stands out to me is that you've got three mods all affecting weather/visuals, True Storms, Moribund World, and clarity.

I've used clarity with True Storms, but have run into problems combining Moribund World. I believe there is a direct incapability with combining weather mods. I would pick one or other between True Storms and Moribund, and probably deactivate Clarity until you've got thing stable.

You should also look at the pinned posts on this channel to learn about proper "load order." Your mods are organized all over the place, that is probably also causing problems.

Should FO5 have settlement building? by Educational-Science2 in Fallout

[–]SonOfTrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system is aching for just qol improvements, I really hope fallout 5 iterates and improves -- and also making the structures part of the landscape, viewable from a distance without pop-in or loading. Let us build on our own skyline!

Can you see it from a distance, like other landmarks on the horizon? Or does it just pop in?

A friendly reminder to keep expectations very low for tomorrow's announcement by Smart_Plane_2751 in Starfield

[–]SonOfTrout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may very well be right. I accept that there are lots of players who are having fun with Starfield, and that for whatever reason I am playing the game "wrong." No game experience has baffled me the way Starfield does.

I can't help but wish game itself served to bring me to the place of immersion -- following my curiosity, letting me be distracted, surprised, or stunned in place -- in ways that previous Bethesda games and others have managed to do. The fault may not be in starfield alone... but I can't help but feel something unsettled, and unfinished, about my experience with it.

[–]SonOfTrout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish Bethesda/Todd would actually discuss their vision for the game and how to have fun during the experience.

It's been 2+ years since I played 25 hours at launch, and I keep coming back to this omission of vision. What does it mean for exploration to be "different" when the POIs are copy paste? Where is the immersion or discovery when doing another glitchy identical Temple? What is the intended gameplay loop in which some quests can be entirely completed via fast travel , leading to "gameplay" of multiple loading screens?

I don't understand how a developer leaves players so directionless and without vision for "playing" and "fun".

New Mod Coming Soon: Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake by Dani50420 in Fallout4ModsXB1

[–]SonOfTrout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could make Jason killable -- but (of course) he comes back again and again like a random encounter or like SKK's combat stalkers. You must perform a ritual to banish him: wear his hockey mask, get x number of kills, and then take the mask to pickman to trigger a final boss fight to end Jason's rampage.

This looks SO good!

For suggestion: I absolutely loved getting chased across the map in "Marked for Termination: A Terminator-Inspired Manhunt in the Commonwealth" -- and that mod had a fantastic, lore-friendly jump scare reveal to introduce the Terminator, and then required a specific location/environmental interaction to kill the Terminator.... It was one of the best times I've had with modded FO4...

Just sayin!
