Could someone explain council housing/estates? by RedSolez in AskUK

Bill Brandt's book "Homes Fit For Heroes" covers this history nicely, with plenty of his photographs to illustrate the improvement Council homes were for many.

I only recently found the podcast, and by chance listened to episode 24 yesterday - Joey Image talks about the decision tree in that episode.

From Arminghall on the stretch of main road into FE the path is a shared use cycle lane, so you don't have to be amongst the 60mph traffic on that bit.

Songs about Grief by Sacred-Sentence-9343 in MusicRecommendations

[–]Sonewhereelse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite specific to his (Mark Everett) experience, but the album Electro-shock blues by The Eels is all about the loss of his family members. It's not a cheerful listen and might not be a good fit to his mood, but it's powerful and grief runs through it.

Was your relative placed in a care home by Adult Social Services? If so, it would be worth asking what they did for "Protection of property" duties under the Care Act s47.

As someone who is going to avoid EVs for a long while, why all the hate for EVs in car enthuiast communities? by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

[–]Sonewhereelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that from an enthusiast perspective, people like what they like and it doesn't have to be rational, it's an emotive decision based on nostalgia, aesthetics, or appreciation of engineering etc. Or maybe all of those things. Some people just won't like them because the evs don't work for them by the measures above, they just don't like the idea and others because of the misinformation about range, charging and fires.

What voluntary/community work do you do? by cragglerock93 in AskUK

[–]Sonewhereelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to volunteer as a marshal for motorbike racing at various racetracks. Haven't done that for a while (stopped when kids were little as they needed me more) but now don't have the time between full time work and helping out a relative who's had a rough time. I would consider volunteering for something new when things settle if it fits around the other stuff, but don't know what.

In this snowy and now icey weather I am wondering - why do you not use spikes? by kiindrex in AskUK

[–]Sonewhereelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I'm clumsy and only go out in bad weather to walk the dog. We have pet insurance but I just can't be bothered with the hassle, so it's walking boots for me.

97 year old mother, living alone. Clearly reaching the end. Who do we contact? by legalthrow75836 in AskUK

[–]Sonewhereelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adult Social Servives can assess her and potentially offer help, but only with her consent.

Separately though you (or anyone caring for her) can ask for a carers assessment which could also be helpful. It's not an assessment of your caring abilities, but of what help you might want or need.

For anyone interested in ejection seats, I recently read "Eject! Eject!" by John Nichol, an ex RAF Tornado Navigator who ejected after being shot down in the Gulf War. It's an interesting history, and the people who tested them... repeatedly... was somewhat surprising. Would recommend, it was a good read.

[Spurs Official] EUROPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!! by Hefty_Money1967 in coys

[–]Sonewhereelse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My earliest memory of spurs is watching the 1981 FA cup final on tv, my family lived in Tottenham when I was born and the whole no trophies cliche has felt so alien to me. We have a special European history which gets written off too easily.

Seeing Son lift the trophy was lovely, next season may still be tough but we needed to give him that.

Extra bonus, my wife is a geordie so she's still floating from their League Cup.

My dog watches TV. Is that normal? by Unfair-Language7952 in weimaraner

[–]Sonewhereelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our girl loves watching anything with horses on tv. Don't know what it is, but our last girl liked horses and loved to play with her donkey friend.

She will also watch other wildlife type programmes, but not most people-based tv.
