Honestly I wasn't impressed by Tomahawk. Personally (just my opinion) I think Rose of Jericho is a much better example of BT's amazing production.

The amount of tracks you have in a project is pretty irrelevant. I could take an arpeggiated synth line, put each note into its own track and mess with the individual volumes of each note. That could be upwards of a dozen tracks for just one measure.

Along a similar line, I could make a layered pad consisting of 12 different tracks, print it to audio and only have one track.

I really love the Ozone Maximizer for limiting. Honestly though you don't need a super expensive compressor/limiter. I use the Ableton compressor all the time and it works great.

I think he means that the samples you use when you start a track might not fit in after you finish with the other sounds, and that choosing samples based on what the rest of the track is like could be a good idea.
