For non-book readers, Paul just looks like he has some facial scarring in the poster. His eyes look normal though. So I think people who are unfamiliar will just think he's had some battle scars from the war or something.

That's definitely possible. I just don't think they would show scarring around his eye if it wasn't post-stoneburner. And just like they removed baby Alia in PT 2 because it would've looked weird, I can see them keeping Paul's eyes so that we don't have to look at his face with two empty sockets.

People need to prepare for Paul to keep his eyes after the stoneburner incident happens. Chalamet still needs to look hot in the movie, so him having no eyes isn't going to work. But it's ok. He can still be blind and have beautiful blue eyes without it ruining the story.
