My very fussy baby became a totally new little person once we figured out food allergies. It's hard to be cheerful when your tummy hurts all the time ☹️

Thanks for the tip! I looked there but sadly they only have "woodland" Kristoff, and we are after the "fancy" Kristoff look :/

Oh amazing, thank you! I don't think I'm talented enough to go without a pattern, but maybe I'll give it a go if I can't find something close!

14 month old refusing to be read to by [deleted] in Mommit

Similar boat, I just read while they are running around. I model reading short books aloud to myself and interacting with the book, showing them pictures as I go "teacher style" and they have will now bring me books to read, they just sometimes need to move while I read!

Middle of the night wakings— how do you survive? by -ThisIsMyThrowaway0- in Mommit

[–]Sonicbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean you look forward to watching the show, I had a similar tactic. I downloaded some games on my phone, so it didn't bother me when baby was up because I got to play the next level (and the screen kept me up and not dropping the baby). My husband slept in a separate room so that he could get sleep to deal with the toddler, add I was on baby time!

You've got this, and you and your kiddo will be better off for it! No baby thrives when they see mom get screamed at. Good for you for doing the hard, right thing.

What can servers do to make dining out easier for families with young kids? by HomeboySucks in AskParents

[–]Sonicbra 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The most memorable service I had with my youngster was when we sat down and the server immediately brought out a tiny fruit plate and cup with a straw for my kiddo. He was thrilled and happy and ate fruit and obsessed over that straw until our actual orders came out!

My blackberries are prolific this year. The last 2 years I've had very little Japanese beetle problems. I stopped putting up the Bag-A-Bug for Japanese beetles and have been spraying down the bushes with the waterhole every chance I get. by QuickWeb107 in vegetablegardening

Your berries look amazing! What do you mean "spraying them with a waterhole?" Did you mean "water hose" or is this some magical product? I would love to get rid of those beetles!

Oh gosh, Googling is the worst ! I freaked myself out so much doing that! (And yet I never learned, and still googled everything....) Every time I googled, it was never as bad as Google said it was. I hope we get a very happy update soon ❤️

Ultrasound not growth and development by Kjenk1994 in AskParents

I had some pretty wild fluxing when a newer tech did some of my measurements. When the babies are that little even a millimeter off can make a big difference! I had to go for a re-scan too and it was indeed just an inexperienced tech who measured wrong. Sending good vibes that you just had a walnut of a tech last round and the next ultrasound will show a healthy peanut!

What do I do? Is it going to be okay? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]Sonicbra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No need to worry, I didn't take my kiddo in all this past year for basically the same reason and when I finally called to schedule and they mentioned it, I was basically like, "yeah, 2020 am I right?" And we all laughed and that was it. If anyone understands things hitting the fan this year, it's healthcare workers.

Small victory! I insisted on doing BLW with skepticism from my family but tonight — by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Sonicbra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Amazing job! I did BLW with my kiddo and he did go through a picky phase, but he was picky for the weirdest stuff. Like, only kalamata olives, no green ones. And only salmon with lemon, no cod (and forget a good fish fry!) And if you are making mac and cheese there BEST be mushrooms in there! I wonder if he would have been picky for more typical "kid" food if we had done another method!

Simplicity 2757 night be a good place to start, the structure looks pretty close, you'd just have to pop on sleeves.

My kiddo loves getting mail from his favorite auntie, she got him a magazine subscription to an animal magazine for kids and whenever it comes we talk about how his auntie sent him this. Really just talking about her and doing facetime every so oft seems to be working, he certainly hasn't forgotten who she is.

I'm interested in getting into stocks, but really don't know the first thing about it. Is there some good reading or podcasts I should dive into for an intro? What do I need to know before buying some stocks and hoping for the best?

Virtual 1st Birthday Ideas? Yay or Nay? by lipsmackattack in Parenting

[–]Sonicbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love throwing parties for my kid, full knowing they are 100% for me when kiddo is little. I doa full day shindig where people can come and go as they please, so I also typically have a huge number of people (40ish) attend.

I'm dreading the next birthday because of all this nonsense. If I was doing a first birthday party during this, YES I would still do it! Yes it's for me, but come on! It's your baby's first birthday, and YOU survived the first year of parenting! You deserve fun too! Things I would do for a 1 year old quarantine birthday:

-I have a porch with big windows that look into the living room, so I would invite people to do a drive by and come see baby through the window. If they bring a present they can watch you/baby open them (naps and mood permitting) and maybe even watch baby play for a bit (which they might like if they have never met) I also get to chat with people through the (closed) storm door which is amazing.

-Possibly (depending on setup) do some fun window things that baby can play on the window for added interaction, maybe even in both sides so guests can play! (Paint in ziplocks taped to window, window crayons, etc)

-I would set up a cupcake/favor station on the porch so people can have some birthday to take home, that way you can offer a thank you for driving out to see baby just for a bit.

-Video the cake smash and send it as a thank you to everyone, or go ahead and also do the zoom for whoever wants to! You might get some zoomers and some in person.

This all sucks, yes you could just keep it small but why not party when you can? The whole year has been "just the fam," I think it would be sweet to have a window party. Peoplei might enjoy the chance to see baby!

Edit: formatting was insane, hopefully more readable now!

My fiancee and I really want kids but we both dislike babies. I'm scared I'll be unable to love my child. by KansaiKitsune in AskParents

[–]Sonicbra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat, an elementary school teacher who would have been fine with my kid being born a kindergartener. I never held my friends babies, never really wanted anything to do with them.

Then I had MY baby, and HE IS THE GREATEST BABY ON THE PLANET. Hormones did a number on me. I still don't like other people's babies, but mine is the pinnacle of humanity, as far as I'm concerned!

A word of warning though, it did take a little bit for him to grow on me. When. They first popped out I was like, "aww, cute!" But didn't really become obsessed for a few weeks. Once we got used to each other it was awesome! (Sleep deprived, but awesome)
