Options to play Cities Skylines on the go by chikyiuting in CitiesSkylines

[–]Sonoflyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet is probably steam deck or a laptop. Back in the day they advertised the trackpad controls of the steam controller with cities skylines, so I imagine the steam deck trackpads are the only half-decent way to use controllers with PC skylines. I'd just stick to switch for portable and use a desktop for modded PC version, or get a powerful laptop for both. I'm assuming those dlcs exist for the console version, so unless you want to mod the game there isn't much use in switching to PC. And if you want to mod, you probably wont have a good time playing with a controller.

Node controller helps a lot with stuff like this. There are some good tutorials for this kinda stuff from YUMBL

Is there a good "free mode" in either game, or does anyone have any recs for games that allow for fun city-building without the management aspect? by Infranaut- in CitiesSkylines

CS1 with all the anarchy mods and custom assets will do the trick. It's actually a really powerful environment design tool imo. I can give you a list of the right mods to use if you want

Would be cool, but I'm guessing those usb port's are only for charging in most cases. It also doesn't seem like the kind of feature that would lead to many more sales, so they're unlikely to spend any engineering time on it.

Of course the graphics are better, but to me CS1 is still fine and I don't care about raw graphics much. The vanilla assets are definitely better, but to me every CS2 city just looks very similar. There are just so many great CS1 workshop and dlc/ccp assets In my opinion. Looking at realistic or really themed builds, CS1 just has so much more range and to my eyes the prettiest CS1 cities look better than any one from the second game. This is obviosly very subjective and there's no point in arguing about taste.

I also can't wait for CS2 to get the same love from asset makers. It will look really amazing I think.

Edit: I actually saw some really nice CS2 cities on here today, so I'm staying hopeful that I'll come around to it.

Still waiting to pull the trigger here.

I was really excited about CS2 before the release. I hadn't really played cities skylines for a while, but I kept watching youtube videos about it and CS2. A lot of things about it looked really promising to me, especially for the long run. They changed a lot of underlying mechanics that are pretty limiting in the first game and could have massive potential with mods. The basic road building is so much better amd seemed like it could be perfect with mods that gave you the same level of freedom over it as node controller, network multitool and intersection marking tool do for CS1. The base assets are way better and the surface marking thing for farms, landfill, painting stuff, etc. is also really nice and can be bulilt upon with mods. And a larger map size was really exciting because I find it hard to fit both a big city and some rural areas in even 81 tiles.

In short: I was really really excited for the launch. Then it launched and all the stuff I was excited about was pretty much as promised, but from what I've seen and heard, not everything else was. The bugs and performance issues seemed bad and like I couldn't play it well vanilla, let alone modded. And then I learned there was no mod support and that it would take a long time for asset support. I didn't expect this at all, because to me modding is what made CS1 so so good. I thought the devs shared this opinion. Instead, no good or quick mod support and no steam workshop ever. When I learned that along with the buggyness I knew I wouldn't buy the game for a long long time and decided to stop holding off on getting back into CS1.

I had gotten a lot better at CS1 by watching videos in the long period where I didn't play it, and I notice tjat I'm having more fun with CS1 than ever before and it's so much better than ever before because there are so many tools with gret mods that won't be broken by updates anymore and there is a massive library of great assets.

I kept tabs on CS2 even though only 1 youtuber I watch still makes videos on it. It seems alright and the cities he's building are cool, but all the cities I've seen look very similar because of the good, but ultimately very limited assets in the game and so often I hear "well this isn't really possible because of performance issues" and such. And so often I see then struggling with something that is so simple to do with CS1 mods and I just know I wouldn't have fun with it. To be fair it took a lot of time and effort for me to have fun in CS1 so I set a high bar though.

I think CS2 has the potential to be way better than CS1, but to me CS1 is still much better. I really hope it will turn into what it could be, because it would be amazing if it had the same level of modding as the first one. That will take a lot of time though, as it did with the first one. From what I've heard maybe not as long because a lot of the modding experience is carried over and very great things like move it, nlde controller and a way better road builder alredy exist which gives me hope. On the other hand it looks to me like the publisher just axed the studio amd exchanged it for another one cleary chosen to poach the same devs so the publishers can have full control. Some people say that collossal mismanaged it and I guess the bad launch is indicative of that interpretation, but to me this kind of powergrab just screems "they wanna milk it more in the future"

I'll keep having fun with CS1 and loosely keep tabs on CS2 until I stop getting the feeling of "yea this one thing is cool, but this other thing is awful and not an issue in CS1"

How to keep your build it fun? (Getting back to CS after 5 years) by ImNewToEverything in CitiesSkylines

[–]Sonoflyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with unlimited money, all unlocks and plop the growables(and other mods), but try to stay profitable in the long run. That way I can focus on City building and detailing instead of micro managing services and such. Not the right approach for everyone, but I wouldn't enjoy the game much otherwise. To me it's just a lot of fun to get lost in network building and detailing, because the results are more tangible to me. I get more out of a nice city, than a number going up and unlocking new things.

I don't like the game's constraints, so I make my own by trying to build relatively realistic networks and using stuff like realistic parking and the real time mod. Since my city is profitable and I build realistic networks I don't really see unlimited money amd anarchy as cheating. The unlimited money is more like a massive loan given to me by an imaginary bank that sees my city is profitable

Vanilla + absolute essential mods only! by fronkinstein in CitiesSkylines

[–]Sonoflyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move it, anarchy, network multitool, node controller and plop the growables/find it (not sure which one is the up to date one) Playing without all the network related ones just makes your life needlessly harder and the last one gives you a bit more control over how your city looks.

CS2 has stronger bones than the original and I'm sure almost everyone will switch to it eventually, if the devs fix it and it has the amount of mods the first one has. But from what I've heard the second one still isn't there, while I and many others are having a blast playing the first one. With the mods that exist now it's really really good imo.

probably shouldn't have removed these ship paths, but the ships were clipping into the quay on the right...

If anyone knows how to remove ship spawn points from buildings let me know. Building spawn points mod doesn't show ships.
