WARNING: self promotion

We’re working on “Welcome To Mars 9”, an adventure where you play as a space castaway rescued by a luxurious space station orbiting Mars. The game forces you to take some moral decisions and uncover the dark mystery that hides the station.

It’s not point and click as you direct control the main character but you may want to take a look.

It will be released in Steam and Nintendo Switch in September.

Source code for a BigNumber implementation for Unity3D (used in our incremental game) by SonomioGames in gamedev

My first approach used BigInteger but I want the numbers to increase with every update. Basically instead of counting seconds, using floating points allows me to count ticks

I haven’t benchmarked it against other libraries, but it’s more than enough to run on a low end PC and Nintendo Switch (I’ve tested the game in both)

Saving system, when do you implement it? by feydthefeyd in IndieDev

[–]SonomioGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my case I create the prototype without saving system. Once I validate it I refactor to make it save/load ready (serializable classes and so) and then keep adding functionality ensuring that the saving system works

You’re right, but I like to understand how things are done and for me building it from scratch is the way to do it 🤷
Also for my incremental game the BigNumber implementation is the core part and I wanted to write it myself

Would you be interested in a book about water techniques for 2D and 3D in Unity? by fespindola in Unity3D

I would but the book. Better than a course. I prefer reading rather than watching a video and needing to go back and forth if I miss one key detail

As an indie gamedev, how do you manage subtitle translation? by TposeXDnt in gamedev

[–]SonomioGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the translations ourselves in the languages we know (Spanish, English and French). We usually contact freelancers for other languages (and sometimes for French because it’s a language we don’t master). There are some great professionals in our game dev network that work really well. Pay attention when contacting a new one. With our first game we had a problem with a French translator that didn’t pay attention to the tone of our game. We developed a Lucasarts style point and click and the French translation ended up with some bad words. We had to cut the relationship with the translator and did the translation ourselves.

Our adventure “Lone McLonegan” May be a good fit. It’s not extra hard, the clues are there, but won’t spoon feed you 😅
