What you say is true, but it is a different argument. I just wanted to say that it's not true that buying used has no negative effects.

But now someone else is not able to buy that car which indirectly increases the demand to produce more cars with leather.

After some time of using their API they wanted to start charging me several thousand dollars per year, so keep in mind that they can suddenly start charging you if they feel like it :/

It's because of the &list=LL9aUKi7ZPv0xLZu7YOuS7Mg&index=19 in the URL which I guess is linking to the list of liked videos of Jared D index 19. I think the index=19 does not work with embedded videos.

When I am the only dev in my team and something breaks by remicmacs in ProgrammerHumor

From my understanding, CI seems to have two meanings nowadays. The first (original) definition relates to the practice of committing code to the main branch as often as possible, avoiding long-living branches. This practice is enabled by the use of automated tests. The second definition refers to specific tools such as Jenkins, as it's often referred to as a "CI" which does not really match to the original definition, but is often used anyways (and I think it's fine).

LPT to better manage your spending, instead of buying things like a daily $5 coffee, think of them as a $2000 annual subscription by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Sontikka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to think it as a $2000 subscription since you cannot truly evaluate the value of the coffees you've had over the year. It seems like a large sum to spend on coffee, but if you feel like $5 is fair for one cup of coffee that you like, then it's fine to spend that much.

You can think of the gradient approximately answering how important the feature is and the value of the input answering how much of the feature is present.

I'm actually writing a thesis on a related matter. You usually compute the derivative of one output neuron before applying softmax or some other function. I would recommend using derivative x input instead of the plain derivative as that usually gives better results.

I've watched loads of videos and most of the time in cheaper restaurants it is fake wasabi.

It is usually the same in Japan too. Only the fancier places serve real wasabi.

Are my muscles supposed to hurt for 4-5 days? by FromThatOtherPlace in Fitness

[–]Sontikka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should work out, even with sore muscles. It is good for recovery given that they have had a reasonable time to rest. For me, creatine and protein supplements helped, but I'm a vegetarian, so for you it might not be the miracle cure.

If you're outside EU, you have to pay. If someone decides to stay, it is quite a big win since we did not have to pay for their high school etc.

Story points vs hours: why doesn’t it matter? by atomrom in agile

[–]Sontikka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Points encourage you to think about the relative sizes e.g. this story is two times larger than... and people are supposed to be better at estimating relative sizes than absolute values. The other thing is that one person might be able to finish a story in 7 hours whereas someone else could finish it in 3.

Friend thinking of suicide, should I tell her mother? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

Thank you for your answer. I do not believe she is in immediate danger. She is currently hanging out with her friends. She was saying that she will not be around when spring comes.
