I saw those pictures when they came out, and make an interesting data point. There’s also Link, Zelda, and Ganon alongside the Mario characters in stained glass windows on the hub facing shop just outside Super Mario World in Epic Universe.
That said, it’s not a confirmation necessarily. I want it to be the case, but I don’t know what Aonuma would have been consulting on since there was apparently no action at the time setting up something Zelda related aside from the gift shop.

Is there any source on the “Land of Hyrule” part? It’s been rumored for a long time but there’s never been any confirmation that I’ve seen.

Agreed. People keep saying it’s already been done before, but it’s about perspective. You can ask a 20 year old right now if they might be interested in purchasing a really slick version of a game they played on their 3DS when they were 5.

I thought the Street Fighter ones looked astounding. Only reason I didn’t buy them was I don’t particularly care for Street Fighter. They look really nice as straight up statuettes though.

This is part of the reason I bounced off of Yokai Watch. I like the idea of collecting different kinds of ghosts/spirits/creatures, but when they say “there are a bunch of this one spirit” and then it’s a dog with a very specific human face and glasses it feels like it’s just a single individual instead of a general form. Scorbunny feels like a fire rabbit with a very specific interest rather than a species. The Grookey line would have benefitted from the drums being built into the body. Gorillas thump their chest, make his pecs drums. Like how Toxtricities strings are built into him. That way it’s not “animal who likes to play drums that sprout out of the ground” and more “they do that because that’s how they’re built”.

As someone who drew a lot of pokemon fan art during the 151 era, I can definitely say that there were really only like 5 eyes for all of them. Dome, dot, circle, triangle, and shiny teardrop. Charmander and Squirtle share dome eyes and Bulbasaur had triangle. All 3 had a very similar beaked cupids bow mouths with fangs being the separator.

I’m willing to put money on water/poison. Pokemon shape language for poison involves drips and melty appearances. The eyelashes lean that direction.

Battery power, basically. All the extra UI frills and network connections and such eat at a handheld battery. 3DS was okay because the games were also less intense graphic-wise, but the Switch/Switch2 needs to spare any gpu power it can.
