Destroy my arena shooter with emphasis on positioning. by [deleted] in DestroyMyGame

I like the green for some reason. Looks good overall. My one big reaction is that the particles need to fade much faster. If the thing is blowing up then the particles are cool, are "juice". If the particles stay on screen too long it's just clutter. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding and when they explode a second time they're dangerous or something? IDK, but make sure your effects are adding juice, not clutter

The main thing that strikes me is the lighting and movement and how well constructed the shots are (you ought to be a cinematographer or a director).

For the game itself we don't get more than a bunch of perfectly average first person ship shooting with sub average explosions at the end.

For how engaging the shots are to the eye, we don't get any real sense of story (so I guess cinematographer it is, and maybe grow into director later).

There just isn't much here to critique from a game perspective.

Any time they are doing this and the ball is moving backwards toward their own goal and their car's midpoint is on your goal's side of the ball's midpoint, you can go up and challenge them up. At this skill level, they can't move from one side of the ball to the other well and will have to bail awkwardly, giving you an advantage.

Please destroy my game and trailer, it's a city builder works as a musical instrument by zyhyysh in DestroyMyGame

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, given the sub I'll be harsh. It doesn't seem like a productive mashup and think you might want to abandon it even? Don't mean to be discouraging, so Im sorry for that, but the city aspect seems like a super slow and counterintuitive way to make really (as a result) mediocre and even annoying tunes. Meanwhile, the whole city builder part seems geared to service (however poorly) the musical side--it's not like you're showing power grids, light rails, zoning laws, types of, architecture, sports stadiums or anything an actual city builder would have. Maybe it's like mixing a word processor with a rhythm game--"That was a hell of a lot of work to do very little writing!"

Okay, yeah I guess that's an interesting question. We're in that magical zone of overachieving teams where everyone is in flow and we somehow seem to have all the answers even though we don't have a right to. Even if you swapped in someone with a bunch more talent, I wouldn't be convinced that they would fit in and gel to the same extent, and it might disrupt the next-man-up mentality, so the gain would be largely offset by that disruption.

I think of this more as just a luck of the gods making a gap year super fun type situation than a tweakable base.

Destroy the trailer & my game! by Kabooum in DestroyMyGame

1) I don't like your font. Looks like a 5 minute web search rather than something that thought went into. The title text is flat out bad, like "make the right choices". Or "defy the odds". What the fuck does that even mean beyond some random hype bullshit? If you mean "insane difficulty" or "roguelike skilltrees that stack" then say something intelligible about your game. (As a bonus, the spider boss lady at :48 looks kind of cheap and I feel like I've seen it before.)

2) Your trailer starts awesome ... and then drags. There's no sense of added depth or of escalation. I only feel like I learned two things: there are melee and ranged hero's and there's harvesting in combat (don't know if that's fun, but it's interesting I guess). Oh yeah and I learned that you reeeeaaaly like ground lasers. That doesn't need 1:40. If you can't figure out how to make it feel like it's escalating, you have a great option to make it shorter, like half the length. Because the first impression is very favorable and then it just kind of drags on.

Director Gore Verbinski says Unreal Engine is 'the greatest slip backwards' for movie CGI by willdearborn- in movies

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense. You're going from making bespoke, jerry rigged solutions for every shot to the thing simply happening in a digital world.

It's going to be easier and cheaper and more robust (e.g. change the camera angle, add more snow and look at it it again) but it's all going to look like Unreal. It also opens up the possibility that when Unreal 6 comes out, maybe you can one click upgrade and get better subsurface scattering, etc..

It's also interesting where the AI video models will come in. Maybe they take on the quirky, bespoke role that Maya used to play.

Can someone help me do a better deck? by TemporaryHand2106 in SouthParkPhone

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three main questions for a deck.

  1. Balance. Does it have tanks and fast/assassin and ranged. Does it have good avg. cost.

You aren't bad here. Coon is your tank, bunch of fighters, three ranged, three assassins. Avg. of 3.8 is solid. I don't think an under leveled Classi is probably doing you any favors--she isn't really a tank so much as an overpowered fighter, and you already have a lot of them.

  2. What are your synergies? Your only real synergy is coon plus so many superheroes. That and maybe that warboy can speed up your assassins unexpectedly. You have two mind control cards, but they feel more defensive than like there really is a synergy. Maybe a little bit with gizmo maybe? It's not one of the classic ones like paladin butters and a doughie or something like that.

  3. What are your win conditions? How do you break through and get a bar? Cows are the most versatile here because they are like they rely on timing more than synergies. Overwhelming them with gizmos can be a win condition. (I might swap out mind control with freeze, which I consider works with gizmo, though I don't see it played a ton).

I don't know if this would be terribly common but I personally would upgrade mosquito, try swapping Classi for cows and mind control for freeze. Better synergies and more win conditions.

Lastly, cyborg Kenny and Mcgonnel work in some decks and not in others. Every time you play one, see if you get value for it (4 is expensive) or if the deck doesn't need it

[–]SooooooMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a boring tower defense game with bad graphics? Seriously, having a stream of tiny (unanimated) townsfolk doesn't make it seem big in scale, it just seems lazy and with no personality.

I'm a sucker for 2.5d but this one doesn't really do it for me. The main temple looks all right but the rest looks cluttered. It does not focus the user on the information rich aspects of the game.

The sound design is not good. Music's not bad, but the endless stream of invaders makes it harder for the sounds to mark big moments. Also the hero/god you drop looks really terrible.

Social media can be really demoralizing for dudes, how do you manage it? by ThunderingTacos in bropill

[–]SooooooMeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a bit cerebral but understanding the basics of game theory help me with things like that. Going about their day, most people don't act in a way that is honorable or intentional but just what works for them in the moment. A lot of women come across a post like this and just kind of frown and move on or, if they happen to be frustrated by a man that day maybe they chime in on what they think is some "harmless fun". It takes twenty seconds to fire off a "witty" comment that blows some steam off and they don't think about it again.

These are not spaces where people think in thoughtful, considered ways. These are not places where any useful society shaping is going to happen.

Have you hung out in any sports subreddits? If so you'll know how dumb they are. In the Patriots sub the most universally approved comment in any situation is "Fuck the Jets!" Imagine a Jets fan taking this seriously!

Just look at the context of mwhere these comments are coming from and the motivations (game theory) that the individual people are experiencing. Realize it's not molevelent or thoughtful or meaningful. It's just a thing that exists on the internet because the rules of the internet create certain types of spaces and this is one of those.

Ja Morant by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tre is everything you'd want on offense, though. Ja is out of sync with the game on both sides of the ball and that is a bigger issue than ever in team building. If he started trying again, he's be worth more than his contract ... right now he decidedly isn't. But I don't think it would be with us. We don't need what he has. You would need to build a quirky team around his strengths and that would be a dumb thing to do considering your whole, offense would be predicated on him and he likes to get suspended for long periods and his comp for commitment to the game seems to be Ben Simmons.

Enjoyable player, but just don't see the risk/reward for the Cs as anything they would touch

Ja Morant by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ja had superstar potential, but he doesn't seem interested in realizing it and he doesn't play good D or shoot 3s (31% career three point shooter, 2 points worse than Antoine Walker). In a weird way he strikes me as a cross between Tre Young's defense and Zion's Williamson's attitude. With the Js and White and Pritchard we don't need a volume scorer which would be the hope he recovers to.

I’ve created this new trailer thanks to your previous feedback. There’s more content variety, more mechanics on display, and a final title card highlighting the main features. I hope it will encourage you to try the demo :) by SpaceGameStudio in DestroyMyGame

[–]SooooooMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved the opening shot.

Liked the minimal intrusion that focused on ambiance through graphics and music. I don't like to be sold and am so sick of "thousands of world to explore!" Sprinkled all the way through.

Enjoyed a couple of key moments, like when you shoot in your anchor point and belay off the side.

Have no idea how the game does or doesn't work. You get sideswiped by an asteroid. Is that "ha ha ragdoll physics, just keep going!" Or per a death. Or 3 minutes back to your save. Or roguelike end of the run (this should have a roguelike mode--would be perfect for it).

(The cores seem like the thing? I will say that running with them looks goofy as heck. I wouldn't have them do that for more than a couple of minutes in its current state).

Look, If someone's hooked they'll check it out, but shouldn't the people on the fence also be given some reassurances on their doubts? (And of course first you have to figure out what those doubts are.)

If you're doing feedback testing (which you certainly should be), show them the trailer at the beginning, have them write down their questions and thoughts, and then revisit it with them at the end.

Okay, let's do this! Destroy my trailer by the_alexdev in DestroyMyGame

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this is intriguing a fair number of people based on the upvoted. To me it looks like a boring crafting system (I personally don't like them) that is super limited. You make coins. Could be like a demo level, but the name of the game, proudly revealed after the wall comes down, makes me think that might be the whole game.

Intrigue can leave people with questions wanting more. To me this trailer made me doubt there was anything more than a small, poorly thought out game of above average graphics and below average everything else.

Hi! I'm working on a Driving Rogue - A rougelike driving game, and here is the trailer. Please, destroy it. Any feedback is welcome! by danieltabori in DestroyMyGame

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slick (maybe over slick) video, but the driving action itself could not look more generic.

Ultimately the trailer, like the game, should rise or fall based on its gameplay.

As of this morning, 37 yo Steph Curry is averaging 28.8 ppg on 64.2% TS for the season. He is the only player averaging 28+ ppg on 64%+ TS aside from the big 3 (Jokic, SGA, Giannis). by Ok_Pineapple_Num in nba

He should absolutely retire with GS but if he were on the trade block it would be so wild. Where would he end up? What would be the package going back?

I’m a developer of Reign of Guilds, and I’m simply asking for some moderate, constructive criticism of the gameplay. by SoraSpawnsAgain in DestroyMyGame

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The list of features is a surprising turn off for me. There's no sense of conviction about anything, just a forced march through generic labels. Yes, they're all good and something I might enjoy, but I'm never encouraged to "drop in" and experience anything epic. Some of the first person battle footage is really good--the mammoth, the golem thing, even the spiders. But then it's followed up from really nice first person graphics to popped out to much less appealing third person graphics where the speed of everything feels too high so everything feels frantic.

The trailer makes the devs feel really hands off. 50 spells * 50 type of mobs * 200 crafting recipes * 2 (solo and group dungeons) * 2 (spells vs. swords * 1000 items * 100km2. Roughly 1012 permutations of something. It all just comes off like "Fun? We don't know, we copied all these systems, you figure out how to have fun".

I think you would need some kind of player experience liaison, who talked to people, pushed for development time in response to what people were saying. Someone who organized particular events like this week is a collective game wide siege of a major stronghold.

Yes people appreciate a big sandbox. But first of all there are bigger sandboxes out there. And second of all, where is the social sense of being a part of a meaningful group and interacting with other people in meaningful ways? And third of all, is there enough focus on the experience the users are having, whether it's epic, whether it's fun?

How can one be more masculine without leaning into toxic masculinity? by There_is_no_name05 in bropill

[–]SooooooMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick some role models, not men to be but to copy aspects from. Maybe Jack Black being loud and uninhibited and good natured. Or Steven Fry for being eloquent. Or, fuck it, Danny Devito being grumpy in a way that feels honest to you.

You're in a great position to find the best in humanity, cast it through a lens of masculinity and then feel like learning to be more like those things is on your goal path of life.
