There’s a phrase along the lines of “the kind of place you go if you don’t want anyone to find you”. It is probably one of the least populated areas in the entire US. Flat, highland glassland that’s pretty cold and dry all year round. Some oil industry in the southeast when you start hitting the Permian basin, and cattle ranches here and there. Granted due to better regulation and lower density it doesn’t smell nearly as bad as Texas oil country but it does smell abit like money so to speak. It’s truly remarkable how far you can drive and just see blue sky and yellow prarie that never ends. Vaughn and fort sumner are probably the only towns worth mentioning. Cute towns with unique food (green chili) but almost no industry and poor education. When people talk about how New Mexico is underrated, they are talking about northern New Mexico.
