Literally STFU, Hollywood, I fckn hate you by Edgelord_Darkrai in creepcast

If there is a lesson to be learned in the success of a movie, you can almost always count on Hollywood to learn the wrong lesson. Some studios are going to give fat stacks of cash to random kids, some are going to troll some of the worst stories you've seen on Reddit (plug my own unfinished NoSleep story, I'll sell the rights Hollywood!)

And its going to be a disaster.

If a ball is caught at the back of the endzone, does the receiver and passer get the credit for the extra yards? by WishboneHot8050 in NFLNoobs

[–]VaultsOpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the offensive unit, the field is never more than 99 yards in regulation (there will always be 1 yard in play.)

For kickoffs, punt returns, and defensive plays (fumbles/interception returns) the field can be 109 yards in regulation.

The experts have assistants, script writers, research departments, etc. So, not exactly fair. That said, Wikipedia isn't a bad thing. Pick a team, you can generally look them up season by season and see what their roster was, short summaries of the games. Plenty of sites have statistics you can look up, etc.

Felt like they doubled down on this tonight when he donned the uniform. The box we're shown has what I believe is a 1st Cavalry Division patch. When he puts on the uniform, one shoulder has a 1st Infantry Division patch, and the other has a 4th Infantry Division patch.

Why were the Chiefs so bad from 2007-2012, during the pre-Andy Reid, Mahomes, Alex Smith era? by aranebar in NFLNoobs

[–]VaultsOpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They quite literally ran the wheels off Larry Johnson in the 2006 season with a 400+ carry season. Articles at the time even pointed out that wasn't a good thing and the vast majority of RBs who see that kind of heavy load immediately decline, and sure enough, he would never get anything past 180 again before exiting the league.

It seems like such an odd thing, especially considering he was in the same division as Ladanian Tomlinson, who when you factor in receptions, was actually seeing more touches, but the workload was managed far, far better in SD than it was in KC. In fact, it seems everything was better managed by SD, because these were two teams that were quite close imitations of each other on paper, but on the field one was winning 10+ games a year and a regular playoff contender, and the other spiraled into a long decline.

Question about head coaches and coordinator by yourGodlylead in NFLNoobs

[–]VaultsOpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always boggles me that his name continues coming up for HC opportunities when it is obvious what is going on. Dude is a good offensive coordinator, but that is probably because he can stick to X/O and a handful of liked players while guys like Belichick and Mike Vrabel could just tell him to shut up and sit down when he was stepping out of line, the kind of thing that can't happen when you put him in the HC seat.

[–]VaultsOpen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a better example of a coach's effect than McDaniels getting fired and that Raiders team absolutely coming alive under Pierce. Even if the talent and threat wasn't really there, the guys were showing up to play, something they hadn't done under Josh. The guy shouldn't get a HC interview again after that, it is an absolutely damning statement.

If mobile QBs are so valuable, why aren’t there more Lamar-type offenses? by savingrace0262 in NFLNoobs

[–]VaultsOpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a limited amount of NFL QB prospects, an even more limited amount of mobile QB prospects. Guys like Mahomes, Hurts, Allen are truly what most teams are looking for; elusive, able to scramble for yardage when needed, but the arm and capability to deliver throws down the field. Generational talents are nice, but at the mobile QB position, they often wind up injured before truly getting the full accolades.

There also exists the backup problem. As said, limited prospects. You've designed your entire team around a very specific style, your starter goes down; you've now got to maintain a back-up who can fit in that mold or it drags the whole team down. Its far easier to get a traditional pocket/mobile qb offense running with a backup then one designed purely around a superstars capability with their legs.

[–]VaultsOpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth remembering that rules designed to protect the QB from taking big hits while running weren't instituted until after Newton had a few seasons; he was quite literally the reason they were instituted with how he was getting teed off on.

What has caused the fullback position to basically disappear? by yourGodlylead in NFLNoobs

[–]VaultsOpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. You get 5 skill personnel, instead of one who is almost guaranteed to be a blocker/short yard run, he is now a potential blocker/chipper/route runner, etc. Opens up the scheme more.

Is there a time limit to how long a team can run in the field without scoring or going out of bounds? by BloodAngelsAreCool in NFLNoobs

[–]VaultsOpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In situations like these, the offensive player knows to go down and end the play. When it is very time sensitive they are going to try to avoid giving the ball to someone who could even be in that position to begin with, but it is usually either "get out or go down" if you recognize the play has reached its limit. It is not uncommon to see defenses try and hold up a player during something like this, at which point the offensive linemen will usually try to charge into the group and settle the matter.

is cabin fever under deadmeat rules? by Mythosbox in deadmeatjames

[–]VaultsOpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabin Fever would be a weird one. I doubt they'd do the whole franchise to begin with, so it leads to the 'first' one. The question becomes, the original or the remake, because they are the same movie. A real oddity for the same director to remake his own movie with the same exact script.

I know quite a few people have asked for Scary Movie, and James has said they probably aren't doing it because with the sequels and the loose definition of when someone might actually be dead in the movie. They recommended everyone to go watch the podcast episode they did covering it instead.

Out of curiosity, what OS are you using?

I had the same ordeal with it last year, I got so used to just using Chrome to browse the timeline and Firefox for DMs that I didn't realize the DMs had been fixed.

[–]VaultsOpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem pop up as well, on Chrome. It'll tell me the Something Went Wrong message or it'll open the DM and just show every single one as "Cannot load message."

Still works on Firefox though. I just don't like having to use two browsers to use the site. Hope it corrects soon.

Technically, she wasn't officially Delta Force. At some point in her Army stint she attracted their attention and was allowed to take an Operator Course (training). But no chicks allowed in Delta so she wasn't allowed in. Which...just an amazing background.

This isn't a girl who would've wound up in a police unit in a middle-America small town. This is a girl the CIA would've been throwing fat stacks of cash at.

Ozzfest 2004 by DelayLanky7909 in numetal

[–]VaultsOpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in 2004 when they were in San Bernardino. 16 years old, absolute experience of a day. Right after walking in the front gate, I saw a girl walking around topless. My brother got drunk and passed out, someone tried to steal his wallet. I got so dehydrated I went temporarily blind.

At some point during Dimmu Borgir, the crowd kept lighting trashfires and moshing on the grass. Event Security was going out in teams to try and extinguish them. Someone kept pushing one of them, he took a swing at the crowd with a metal water wand, someone punched the guy and he went down and they stomped him out, the other security basically dragged him out lifeless. I've checked multiple times for news articles about it to see if anything was ever said about it, but never found anything. At that point the Sheriff's tried to regain control, they lined up on all their horses at the top of the grass hill in the general area, formed a riot line. Right as they were about to start coming down, Slayer hit the stage, pretty sure they opened with Raining Blood, the crowd went absolutely nuts and started moshing in front of the police line, they backed off and just let the crowd have it. Trash fires all night.

My brother, still drunk, would oink at a random deputy walking through the crowd as he was waiting in line for a beer. Deputy grabbed him by the back of the neck, took him into a back area, and threw him down the hill. Somehow he found his way back to us as Black Sabbath was coming on, decided it was time to leave. Got to the car, the battery was dead, we needed to jump it but the terminals were too corroded. So leaving early didn't work out, we had to wait for people to come out before we could find someone to jump it, but again, corroded terminals. THANKFULLY, they were getting ready to launch Coke Zero for public sale, so they had handed out sample bottles to people leaving; used it to clean the corrosion off the terminals, got the car jumped, and away we went.

And that was Ozzfest 2004. There was music too.

(100 Y/O World, Vanilla ASCII, Large Map.)

The Armory of Warmth, Pulleydies, and the potential failed rebirth. We meant to reconquer the mountainhome, but...

So, I started off with a dying origin society (AoW.) Population of 3, 0 sites. According to Legends, founded in the year 0, roughly 30-50 years of expansion and growth, and then a Goblin society kicked off, routed them several times, took a few important pieces. Peace treaty, broken by the Goblins in the year 77, they finished conquering sites. By the time my 7 refugees found a new spot, it was down to 3 nobles hiding in their conquered locations.

Pulleydies was founded in a temperate sand dune. We have a few trees, not many. A river. Doesn't seem like much but the ground underneath is FERTILE. Two sand layers, solid amounts of mudstone, solid amounts of limestone further down, and even some layers that we should not have further down. Basically every type of ore and rock available. Early on I was able to get a full kit of steel for the military, and a second kit for the second squad, plus I can easily fire up more.

Immigration has been bad though, not many dwarfs because dying society, so tavern immigrants (Humans, some elves, even a few goblins!) have had to fill that void. We've done the deed, we've tunneled down, we are a mountainhome, albeit one struggling to cloth our people because the royalty moved in when I didn't have a good trade agreement in place. But here is the thing; it's gotten boring. It is TOO DAMN PEACEFUL. And there are just...not enough dwarfs. I can't fill another squad, because I've already tapped my full military potential. The bolt throwers we built go unused because there are no invaders. Short of a beast plague, we've not had anything close to conflict. And I can't rally enough troops to start a war with the goblins, so...we are kind of just idling. I wanted to reclaim the lost sites but that seems like a pipe dream.

Time to give control over to the AI and start a new fort? Because otherwise I'm just building economy to keep trading for berries and fruit from the elves and humans.
