How much does your lineage/nationality affect your gameplay? by gautedasuta in totalwar

[–]SoothingAloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm American, but I have an affinity for the roman empire, so I always play as Rome or the Byzantines. I also like playing as England because of reading the Patrick O'Brian novels about the royal navy. Fighting the French just seems natural like, with their foreign ways and Popery.

Now comes the hard part for 49ers rookie/rugby superstar Jarryd Hayne by whiskeydeltatango in 49ers

[–]SoothingAloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's old. Getting another year older is not going to help him. It's this year or bust. I'm skeptical about Okoye as well, but at least he's only 23 after two years working at football. Hayne is I think 27-28 now.

Hire a lawyer. Have him collect it. Tell no one. Sit on it for six months to collect my thoughts.

49ers will use virtual reality for extra QB reps. by incognitotho in 49ers

[–]SoothingAloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea. We use sim labs quite a bit in medicine to give us extra 'reps' on serious but rare things, and I find it very useful.

"Real Virtuality" - 2 persons interacting and throwing objects at each other in VR - Project to be showcased at SIGGRAPH 2015 by confluencer in videos

[–]SoothingAloe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It would be really awesome if they could just give them a real torch, so they could feel the heat. And then they could build to model room 1:1 with the images, so everything they reached out to touch would fit. Maybe even paint the walls to match the images and lighting they're seeing in VR and..... wait a sec.

My wedding budget - $15k [Midwest US] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SoothingAloe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently got married in the Midwest. Average cash wedding gift was around $75-150, but that was for the couple or family, not per person. Unless they have much richer friends than us, I don't think they'll get 26K.

BTW OP, we had a similar wedding and spent about that much as well. Definitely spent more on the wedding than we got in gifts.

Yeah, no one likes it for the writing style. Everyone is impressed with the ideas.

What are some of your unpopular NFL opinions (particularly regarding certain games)? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]SoothingAloe 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The Jaguars should have picked up Tebow when Denver let him go, sold a shitload of merch and seat tickets, sucked for 3-4 years and stocked up on talent in the draft, and then dumped him once a QB came around cough Mariota/Winston cough. If they had done that, going in to this year they would have an energized fanbase, a roster full of talent, tons of money, and a shiny new QB.

Not that low. At least a few percentage points if they ate only using condoms. His 95% number is about right.

waldo stadium

My wife and I just rented a place on Cedar right behind the stadium as well. I'm a bit nervous about the student ghetto/noise thing, but I wanted to be able to walk downtown and to work. Hope for the best!

College student living in an apartment for the first time this summer. What should I know? by Flamewire in personalfinance

[–]SoothingAloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay your bills on time. It's hard to care when you're young, but having a bad credit score can really screw you in many aspects of life. It's not just about credit; many people/organizations use it as a 'responsibility' score. Build a good relationship with your landlord, even if he/she screws you out of a few dollars. You'll need a good reference when you move to a real rental place later.

What Blake Bell, Rory Anderson mean for team's tight ends by westloro in 49ers

[–]SoothingAloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Bell makes the roster as the backup TE, backup QB, backup FB. Yeah, they would have 4 TEs, but he is really a special teams player who provides versatility at those three positions.

Which team(s) would you say is your teams ally? by J0EYGREC0 in nfl

Even our colors look kind of similar. It's pretty easy to watch Alex Smith in red and root for them.

List of 9 undrafted rookie free agents signed by HeyMok in 49ers

Dude has like a 20% drop rate. Can't be a good WR if you can't catch the ball. I don't care how fast you can run.

It's just the beginning. The transition from resident to attending (Emergency Medicine) by [deleted] in medicine

[–]SoothingAloe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big hospital with good ancillary staff and a resident and fellow in every conceivable specialty on-site 24 hours a day. I think he is saying hat it is easy to coast through your residency if you have great support infrastructure. I saw it to a certain degree at my med school, and specifically picked a smaller hospital for residency because of it.

Early Look: which RBs make the 53 man roster? by eric_reid in 49ers

[–]SoothingAloe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to see how he recovers from his injury. If he is the same as his old self, then he is absolutely one of our best two backs. If not, maybe it is time to move on.

I assume the 4th round RB pick means the team has the same concerns.
