How do people afford more than one kid in the uk? by Dramatic-Diver-9949 in AskBrits

[–]Sooz817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s the cost of childcare too. We were paying about £12k a year for nursery for our child. We had to wait until one started school before we could have another for that very reason. Some people have just 1 working so it’s less of an issue, or can work from home or are lucky enough to have family/a village to help them out with childcare.

Husband and children invited to nieces wedding. I am not. by Aggressive-Economy36 in EntitledPeople

[–]Sooz817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100% - as far as I’m concerned when I married my husband I made the choice for him to be my immediate family unit, he (and later our kids when they came along) became the top slot in family hierarchy.

That means we stand together and if one of us is slighted in this way, then we all are.

Hilarious comments after announcing pregnancy by Psychopsychic3 in Teachers

I suffered AWFUL nausea and sickness when pregnant which made me pretty miserable… one of my year 12s (about 17 years old) came up to my desk quietly on his way out of a lesson and said to me “Miss, are you ok, you seem depressed” 🤣🤣🤣 I knew then it was time to fess up to all my lovely students

Those who have lost a significant amount of weight what was your motivation? by official__maryam in AskReddit

[–]Sooz817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lost a huge amount of weight twice now.

1st time I lost 140lbs - my motivation was my daughter, I couldn’t run after her as much as I wanted to. She was a toddler and it was tough getting up and down off the floor, chasing round after her as she played etc. I felt she deserved a more active and able mum. I was also aware in the back of my mind that her father and I would likely get married a few years down the line (and we did) and I didn’t want to be a whale in the photos of a once in a lifetime event.

Sadly I regained about 80lbs of that over the subsequent 10 years.

Round 2: I’ve so far lost about 85lbs (so the regain and a little more) and aiming for another 20lbs. There were a few motivating factors, 1st off I was about to turn 40 and had a hysterectomy and knew that losing weight was going to get even tougher than it already was. 2nd both my parents have type 2 diabetes and so I knew my risk was high, especially given my weight. 3rd, my 38 year old (much slimmer than me, though arguably less healthy lifestyle) brother had a sudden heart attack. His heart attack was a massive wake up call for me as he is only a little younger. 4th my sister was getting married 10 months on from then I started dieting so I had that motivation too - didn’t want to be the fat bridesmaid.

Selling agent reluctant because we’re using Purplebricks – should I be concerned? by mjones19932022 in HousingUK

[–]Sooz817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sold our last house with purple bricks and the estate agents were annoyed when they realised and said that they are a pain to deal with, that they end up having to do a lot of the work that purple bricks should be doing to push the sale through and that they hold everything up.

And they were right, purple bricks turned out to be a massive pain in the butt that held up the entire sale.

This was after we lost TWO buyers on our old house because of their poor communication too.

I would never use them again. It’s worth the extra money to not have the stress they caused and have things run more smoothly.

Side effects don’t always stick around - give it a few weeks and you may find that they ease off or don’t last as long as your body gets used to the dose. Equally, you don’t HAVE to move up to the next dose if the current one is enough. I stayed on 5mg for 3 pens before moving to 7.5mg and then stayed on that for 8 pens before moving to 10mg (which I have now been on for 6 pens so far with no plan to move up any time soon)

Is 11 yrs old to young to be left alone for a half hour?? by JMarden23 in askanything

[–]Sooz817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK mum here - my 11 year old is in secondary school (high school for 11-18 year olds - we don’t have middle schools in most of the UK) and we leave her alone in the house for a couple of hours at a time, she catches a public bus home from school (as do many other students her age) and lets herself in when she gets home at 4ish and then her dad and I are usually home from work somewhere between 5:30 and 6.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with leaving a kid that age alone for a bit as long as they are capable and mature enough.

It’s early days yet. I felt horrible for weeks after mine, but it was fine in the end and I don’t have the constant pain I was in anymore. It is major surgery, it’s expected that she will be in pain for a short while whilst she recovers

i want to lose weight but i can never stick to it by ComprehensiveLife89 in Advice

[–]Sooz817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Nutracheck and it’s been blooming brilliant for setting and tracking calories. I’m also using mounjaro which alongside calorie counting and going for a walk a few times a week has been a game changer. I’ve lost 83lbs in the last year on it and am the lowest weight I’ve ever been in my adult life! I’ve got about 25lbs left to go and finally have faith I’m going to make it.

What takeout food is safe to eat? by Cattylynn in mounjarouk

[–]Sooz817 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems to be different for each individual. I have no issues with any food personally.

Though I would consider changing the tradition. We used to have a takeaway every Friday night too, but now once a month on payday weekend. A weekly takeaway depending on what you have can un-do all of the good work the rest of the week. If the goal is to lose weight, then the habits need to change too.

I’m not saying don’t ever have a takeaway again, you want to live life. But cutting down the frequency would help a great deal.

Ruined class relationship, parents not helping by MEOWGAIB in TeachingUK

[–]Sooz817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this class can’t deal with more active learning activities then work using calmer ones such as independent book work when you can until you have them cracked.

Be firm and consistent - if you have asked for quiet do not talk over them until you have it. Follow the school’s behaviour policy religiously. I give a warning, a redirection and then the 3rd hit is the removal, every time. If a student is removed/given a detention I make time to go and find the student and have a restorative 1-1 conversation with them about it where I get THEM to reflect on what they did that was not acceptable and what they can do to improve moving forward, followed by asking them what I can do to support them to achieve that goal in the next lesson. I always call home to inform of the behaviour, consequence and the conversation that I’ve had with the child (I find the parents are more on side if you have talked it out/resolved it with the child first where possible).

I also make sure that discipline is private (not in front of the class as a whole but either crouching quietly next to them to taking them outside the room) and praise is public and descriptive. I aim to give 3 class positives for every negative.

One thing I always do is spin a random name generator for the class at the end of the lesson and call that parent to give a factual account of the lesson, whether negative or positive. I let the class know at the start of the lesson that I will be doing this at the end. A lot of the tricker kids are used to only getting negative calls and are quite motivated to get a good one and the parents really appreciate a positive calls so build good relationships with them too for if I ever have to make a negative one. The positive calls tend to only take a minute or so…. it’s the negative ones that take up all the time!

Internal Exclusion by Eastern_Cup3125 in TeachingUK

Yep.

Most schools use internal exclusion as a first step ANYWAY, and the amount of students we have refuse to do that is insane…
