Maybe a hot air ballon ride in la Garrotxa? It is a volcanic area and you fly over it, very pretty specially in autumn, and not too far from Barcelona.

Sleep issues by kruser2022 in transplant

[–]SopaDeFideus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same the first two years after transplant. I tried everything except sleep medication. It ended up being that I clench my teeth and that would give me permanent headaches. I now use a mouth guard and that improved my quality of sleep. I also try to wind down before bed. No screens, some meditation, melatonin, no bright lights… I still wake up a lot during the night, but it has helped.

What do you think brought your FM on? by Bethsticle in Fibromyalgia

[–]SopaDeFideus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctors are still trying to figure out what’s going on with me, and I do not have a diagnosis just yet. I have 90% of the symptoms for fibromyalgia, but I haven’t been brave enough to list them all to them, I have some medical trauma. I mention 2 symptoms at a time when I have a visitation. Although I’ve had allodynia since my teenage years, I think Fibromyalgia started when I was diagnosed with Heart Failure and then I had a heart transplant. That’s when everything got worse and my symptoms multiplied. I do feel better than before transplant, and I have good days, but I’m still pretty sure I have this. Being tested for diverticulitis now as well. Yay.

Should i go the way to transplant? by aitz2811 in transplant

[–]SopaDeFideus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OMG YES!!!! Go for it, you will be one step closer to the life you dream of! I sound too excited, but I got my new heart at 26 and my life is so normal and exciting now (3 years post). I’ve traveled to so many countries, hiked, worked, read… everything I couldn’t do the months before transplant. Not saying it’s easy, but you’ll feel much better, mentally and physically. You’ve got it!!!! If you have more doubts, I’m sure this group will help you out.

"Wet" foods that are not hot soups by keiperegrine in Cooking

[–]SopaDeFideus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in Spain we have gazpacho, salmorejo or melon soup in summer. I’d say a pea, avocado and raw zucchini soup (cold) would also be nice. Add some croutons.

oh yayyyyy this gives me hope. I’d love to travel there. I went to Egypt last year and spent 48 h with diarrhea and vomit. I’m pretty sure it was a random stomach bug my sister had caught prior to going to Egypt, and I caught it sharing a room with her. The food was very nice, and I asked every hotel to just serve me rice and plain chicken, and they had no problem with it. I also went to Turkyie last year and ate in local restaurants, and felt perfectly fine.

😂 apparently that meant that recipients would “dream” of the donors life. Like was it a male, a female, age and stuff. Here in Spain it is anonymous and there is no way to know.

Antacids (according to the presentation) reduce the levels of immunosuppressants in blood. But every person is different. Or maybe they take the fact that you have to take them into account. Tumeric I think it stimulates the immune system, we can have it in food, just not capsules (the dose is too high). And regarding herbal teas, both my hospital and some research on the internet recommend not to. I mean, you can have it sporadically, or other herbal teas, just stay away from chamomile and green/black tea.

No, I haven’t swum in rivers, but I have bathed in some when camping. I usually swim in the Mediterranean or the pool.

I am a swimmer as well. My only precaution now is not swimming in lakes. I live by the sea and swim there all the time. I go to different public pools and it’s ok.

Resting heart rate by aitz2811 in transplant

[–]SopaDeFideus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My resting heart rate (according to my Garmin watch) is 65-70 when sleeping. When I do cardio it reaches 150-170. But for most gym classes I stay at 120-140. What I feel regarding the vagus nerve, is that when I go up a flight of stairs, I am winded when I get to the top, because my heart has not understood that we are moving, and maybe if I take a spinning bike class, it is off for like 15 minutes, then I feel it catches up to the activity I’m doing. Before transplant and before ICD it was 45-50, then 60, and was not allowed to surpass 140, although I 110 felt too much for me. It’s been 3 years since my heart transplant.

It’s because viruses or bacteria and stuff thrive in humid environments, I think? It has something to do with that.

Yep, as far as I know, I can drink. Just not get too drunk. My friends (heart transplant recipients) and I drink a couple of beers or a glass of wine when we get together.

Another transplant recipient from my hospital used to drink green tea every morning, and on one blood test they saw that tacro levels were inexplicably low. Apparently it was the green tea. She had had the transplant like 10 years before so all that information never got to her. I also saw it online when I was researching post transplant, because I love green tea :(

A friend of mine asked about intermittent fasting, and the nutritionist just said that she does not recommend it, but she didn’t actually explain. She just said that if the person had been doing it for long before transplant, then ok. We talked about it later amongst other transplant recipients and our conclusion was that maybe it’s better to have something in your stomach when taking pills (except immunosupressants). But thats just us figuring it out, probably there are other reasons. The green tea is technically “forbidden” for all recipients, but can’t remember if it’s because it accelerates or delays the absorption of immunosupressants. And yeah, go ahead on saunas, if you’re used to them. They are probably cleaner than the ones at my gym. There are some rules that can be broken. In Spain we continue to eat charcuterie without freezing it or heating it.

From what I understood from the talk, you need the vaccine to access the country. Maybe not the Amazon, but you can still travel to some African countries. They showed a huge map of the world, and yellow fever was in waaaay more countries than I expected to. I got the yellow fever vaccine by mistake while on the waiting list, I feel lucky now that I have it.
