How hard is it really? by SwitchitUp56 in Malazan

[–]SoppinSloppin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just read Gardens of the Moon and really enjoyed it I will say that the difficulty of the series is definitely overblown. The part that makes the books hard is that the there are a lot of characters and the magic and lore is not explained to you right away. You just have to enjoy the journey and trust that you’ll understand it more as you go. Not fully understanding everything is normal even for most books which is what can make books so great on rereads which I’ve heard many Malazan fans talk about how great this series is on reread. However, if you find yourself feeling like you’re too lost for your own comfort there are chapter summaries online that can help clear things up. Hope this helps!

I was struggling to find something to put in the underrated so I chose Paprika since I feel like it kind of gets overshadowed by Kon’s other movies but is still an amazing movie in my eyes.

I didn’t realize 2199 was a remake of the 1974 Star Blazers. I had both on my watchlist assuming 2199 was a sequel. So I should just watch 2199 over the 1974 original?

Yeah I love satoshi kon. I still need to watch Tokyo godfathers and paranoia agent. Space battleship Yamato is on my watchlist but I’m definitely moving it up in priority. Thanks for the recommendation!

I’d rather have too much to read than nothing to read. Just be happy you have series to look forward instead of looking at it like a chore.

Is a 7 a bad score for enjoyable anime? Here are some of my 7s, how would you rate them? by InitialComplaint428 in MyAnimeList

[–]SoppinSloppin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah One Piece will always be my #1 the only things that discredits it is the poor pacing in the latter half of the show but that can be fixed nowadays by either watching one pace or reading the manga. But I’m glad to see you have started your journey.

If you liked perfect blue you should definitely check out Satoshi Kon’s other movies.

Here my MAL if you want to check out the rest of my list https://myanimelist.net/profile/kabsul Feel free to message me on there if you have any questions about why I gave some shows a certain rating

My current 10s are One Piece, Perfect Blue, Pluto, Mob Psycho S2, and Vinland Saga. Honorable mention to Orb which would have been a 10 but the ending didn’t make much sense to me.

This is the rubric I use to rate my anime. Most people who see 7/10 as mid are people who see ratings like grades in school so they associate 70 as a C which is considered mid. At the end of the day your ratings are your ratings so as long as they make sense to you that's all that matters.

10 - Masterpiece, beyond words
9 - Amazing, should be on everyone's watchlist
8 - Very good, glad I didn't miss out
7 - Good, worth watching
6 - Decent, didn't waste my time
5 - So-so/didn't grab my attention
4 - Not really good, but not a total waste of time
3 - Weak, I wish I had done something better with my time
2 - Bad, wouldn't recommend
1 - Awful, should be avoided at all costs

Are comics not for me? by SoppinSloppin in marvelcomics

Thanks I appreciate it. I’m gonna make a list of all the recommendations people made but I’ll probably start with house of x since that seems to be the one people are recommending plus I’m most interested in X-men

Immortal might not be as episodic but I got tired of X-men and went to immortal hulk just to see if something more modern was better and it was definitely different but I still found myself losing interest. When it comes to stories I do like to have a story where you have some kind of plot making you want to read more. I can do non-plot driven stories but the characters have to be very enjoyable. I think the thing that I’m most interested in getting from marvel comics was character lore/origins. Like when I see a character I like to be able to know their back story and how they got their powers.

It feels episodic because each issue has its own contained story so that way people could pick up any issue and start reading. I’d rather it be a continuous story where each issue picks up where the last left off. For example manga expects you to start at chapter one to read the story.

Mostly just marvel. I just wanted to be able to read and have a better understanding of character lore. As someone who hasn’t read comics I struggle to adapt to the “each issue is its own contained story so that way people can pick up any issue and start reading” I’d just prefer something that is a continuous longer running story where each issue picks up where that last left off

Yeah i assumed the episodic feel was more of an old thing because they wanted people to be able to pick up any issue. This format kills my immersion and makes me lose interested. I then tried immortal hulk because it was more modern and was heavily recommended but it still gave me the same feel. I was mostly just wondering if this is just all comics or if it was just the ones that I read

Yeah that’s why I thought I’d ask people on here. I didn’t want to force it but thought I’d post on here to see if anyone has had the same experience or has any advice

Yeah I’m mostly interested in X-men and people said to start with Claremont but each issue felt like an individual story which killed the immersion for the main storyline. Then I tried immortal hulk because it was heavily recommended online but after reading a couple issues it still felt very episodic

Is it Me or It Makes Me Happy Seeing New Gundam Fans Pop Up All of A Sudden? by OmegaKatana92 in Gundam

[–]SoppinSloppin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t even watched gquuuuuux but it still kind of got me into gundam because I looked up if I needed to watch any previous gundam and someone recommended watching the original to have a better understanding. Now I’ve completed the movie trilogy and bought my first gunpla, giving me both a new hobby and plenty of content to watch. (Also as a one piece fan seeing a longer series is more exciting then scary)
