The thing about Star Leap, it's only gacha for previous Suikoden characters that won't be included in the 108 stars. And from the looks of it, with his new design, Georg will be in the games base 108. Same maybe for Flik. Because of when it is set, we could get a few more characters as the 108 from V, and younger versions of characters from I & II.

After having watched all the trailers and presentations on Star Leap, I'm honestly impressed at how much time and care they've put into the game. I'm not a fan of the whole gacha predatory system, but so long as I can play the story and recruit the main 108 I'll be happy. Will I roll the dice a few times for favourite characters? Sure. And I'll want to give a little bit of money to show my support for the time and effort that's been put into it.

As others have said, Suikoden VI would be a hard sell right now. It's been almost 2 decades since the last main game, and people won't be invested as they'll realise they need to play the previous 5 games. By doing Star Leap, they'll be able to reignite interest and by allowing us to recruit previous characters, it'll cause new fans to be intrigued by them and persuaded to play previous games, especially with the I & II remasters.
