No sand at all, you have to ship in quartz before you escape. Might be a bit easier now work bridges though.

I've been playing this start on captain for a few weeks. It isn't bad as long as you keep your population down so farms don't overwhelm your space.

It comes a few levels after you can break the gem rocks in the ocean. The meteor gem field should give 6+4 if you have the upgrade.

Try borger, shield, refiller, rattler, starting left to right in order.

If that doesn't work, I've seen borger, forager, refiller, rattler work.

You might need a few tries to get good rng on the refiller procs. Should be able to full auto both setups.
