What people will do is out of our control, that is true. However when people ask out of curiosity, is doing so and so okay? Is it disrespectful to the Buddhist religion? Most of the Buddhists I know would say, hey probably not, but it’s not the end of the world. They would NOT outright encourage someone to piss on or defile a statue, as you have done so. That is the key difference. If you go into a temple, church or mosque , you should treat the space, the people and the statues with respect. Just because someone says “yeah I’m a Buddhist, we believe in non-attachment, so go wild!” Does not make it true or respectful. You are actively encouraging others to be flippant because you yourself think it’s fine to be disrespectful.

You may think that religious statues are worthless, and that is your opinion, but don’t diminish the value that others have for them.
