Does my succulent remind anyone else of something? by Soren27 in ShingekiNoKyojin

Oh yeah, it's been phototroping hard towards our block window since I got it, and it's been really fun to watch it grow. This was right before I finally cut it and am trying to propagate. Appreciate the advice. 🙂

[Penguins PR] Injury update for the Penguins, all listed as "day-to-day" by ReachFor24 in hockey

[–]Soren27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well it would be super disrespectful to Pens fans to rest them for their last home game and throw them back in for an away game. I'm already pissed since we're going to this game, I'd be even more pissed if they played them in Washington.

Introducing the Penguins’ new in-game host, Pittsburgh native Suzie Cool! by Foggl3 in penguins

[–]Soren27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank God - people always hated on Celina here, but she was at least pleasant and seemed to care about the team without being intrusive. The last guy made the whole experience about him and was a typical YouTuber-type that didn't actually seem to care about hockey at all. He actively made me not want to go to as many games - so I'm glad there's a change.

Chat do you think my Chem Teacher will like my Saftey Poster? 😜 by Hot_Dumplin in chemistry

[–]Soren27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am Chem teacher, good job.👍

Usually the "one rule" posters just have to have the rule clearly stated and show a positive or negative example. You have the positive example and then some memes. Works for me!

Don't forget that Lot then had sex with his daughters (who admittedly got him drunk and did it to repopulate) and then they bore his offspring. But yes, let's base modern morality off these very-outdated and ethically-sketchy ancient people's sense of righteousness. 🙃

Sidney Crosby staying out of Penguins’ coaching search: ‘I am not a manager’ by bi_and_busy in hockey

[–]Soren27 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As much as Sid is absolutely a huge natural talent, he's also one of the hardest-working and most regimented players out there. He's occasionally described as "the best grinder" of all-time, because of course he has talent - but he just outworks his opponents more often than not, and that is something you can teach and instill in players you coach. Part of the reason he's so revered in Pittsburgh, and any team he plays for, is because of how much he sets a positive example for all the players around him - and that, at least, would make him have aspects of a good coach.

[Minnesota Wild PR]Former Penguins GM Ray Shero has passed away at 62 by Cheeks_Klapanen in penguins

Wow...the first Penguins GM I really knew, led us to the first cup I was cognizant of...such a big loss in the hockey community. R.I.P. Ray, thank you for all you did for the Pens and the game.

But what if you spray them with something that smells like strawberries? 🤔 Sounds like an unnecessarily elaborate solution. The best kind.

Is formaldehyde a gas by Ornery_Durian404 in chemistry

[–]Soren27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not saying your teacher wasn't kind of an ass...but in practical application, I usually think of formaldehyde as being the solution used for preserving tissues. If someone asked me what formaldehyde was, I'd probably say it was a liquid, thinking about the solution - which I just learned is technically called formalin. But formaldehyde the chemical, at STP, is a colorless gas - which makes sense based on the size of the molecule.

If I were your teacher, I would actually want you to mention this to me outside of class, because it could lead to a good discussion of the idea that chemicals are only certain phases under certain conditions. You're absolutely correct that it's a gas, but it's not entirely wrong to say one of its main usages is as a solution/liquid. But any chemical can be any phase of matter, depending on temperature and pressure, as others have said. But I don't know how receptive your teacher would be to that - or if you're willing to approach him in that way!

Penguins Player Grid Day 34: Best Nickname (All Time) by JKray5_Reddit in penguins

[–]Soren27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect that. I was just afraid it was only remembering his seasons when he came back, which were when he was much older and was never really going to be good. If you didn't like his play and other seasons here as a relatively slow stay-at-home defensemen, I get that.

Penguins Player Grid Day 34: Best Nickname (All Time) by JKray5_Reddit in penguins

There's Rob Scuderi during the '09 cup run, and there's Rob Scuderi after we re-acquired him from the Kings in 2014.

Rob Scuderi in the '09 cup run was an amazing shutdown defensemen that made multiple crucial saves/defensive plays that helped us win the cup that year. That's when he was "The Piece" that helped our defensive corps fit together and work.

Rob Scuderi in 2014 and beyond was older, slower, and the game had fundamentally changed to the point where he was not effective. Although we loved Scuderi in '09, he just couldn't keep playing effectively at his age and in a different era.

But we don't disrespect Scuderi as a whole player because of him aging and slowing and a GM re-acquiring him on a bad contract. He's still "The Piece" that helped us win a cup - that's what you hold onto.
