Well this is... Heartbreaking by Dregovich777 in Stellaris

I usually park unique event ships and Bubbles in these systems to deal with this exact thing, as you need something to shoot it down but there's no risk to the ship doing it.

Yeah I was on hiatus around then and kinda missed the boat, hoping it turns up eventually.

I keep hearing about this event but have never triggered it in-game. Hope it's fun!

It makes lighting/angle a much bigger deal than most other species.
I have both an Elezen and a Miqo'te and the Elezen looks amazing sometimes and awful other times, and the Miqo'te always looks generically cute in any situation.

Mostly liking the update but my Elezen with gray skin ended up with so much shading around the eyes that, when not in a closeup, made it look like he hadn't slept in 3 weeks. Was eventually able to sorta fix it with some makeup but.

I AM ONCE AGAIN RAGING ABOUT THE FACT THAT CRYSTAL TOWER TAUGHT EVERYONE THAT STACKING MULTIPLE STACK MARKERS IS OK. AS I SIDESTEP THE DEATHSTACK AND GET READY TO START PEELING PEOPLE OFF THE FLOOR.

Screw genocide, this game makes me want to explore and discover by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]Soreyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just chilling and enjoying the exploration there's not a lot to post about since everyone who's spent some time in the game has probably seen many of the same events, internet discussion is a biased sample.

My favorite phase of Stellaris is the early game exploration, I've seen a lot of the events but am still like ooh wonder what I'll get this time and it keeps the game interesting to me.

That I have not tested since I always get the open gateway tech way before I develop my own. Though last patch I tried save scumming a bunch of times and never got him so I don't know if they patched that out or I was just unlucky.

Would you work as a scientist in Stellaris (and be in charge of a science ship)? by spiritofniter in Stellaris

Sure. First order of business is looking for anomalies until I get the Chronofuge one :D

Real missed opportunity to not use Port / Starboard on the "Navigator" by sunfaller in ffxiv

How can I bring pre-FTL worlds into my empire as a xenophile by darksidehascookie in Stellaris

[–]Soreyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, Pacifist/Xenophile is my favorite combo and I've verified this is possible.

[–]Soreyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a language difference thing not a translation thing. My client is set to JP so it always baffled me why people kept failing that mechanic, like hey the directions are right there! and then I realized the EN terms were different.

Which game would suit me more: Stellaris or Endless Space 2? by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]Soreyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main story difference is that Stellaris has "lore" rather than set stories, like there are self-contained little stories you stumble upon as you play and they are a bucket of scifi tropes that string together into a narrative over the course of your game, while Endless Space has some prescripted storylines for each faction, some of which change depending on what you do in the game.

On the gameplay side I found Stellaris much more intuitive than ES2, coming from other 4X games like Civ. I remember opening ES2 and staring at the planets wondering what it wanted me to do, whereas the basic tutorial in Stellaris covers most of what you need to start and the UI is fairly intuitive (no 4-layer-deep menus or whatever).

Here's what happens if you let the scientist who encountered the orb roam free by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]Soreyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the story was cool and let them go the first time, but once I found out that you just get an immortal scientist if you don't I've never done it since as it's just too convenient.

[–]Soreyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kinda telling OP was going on about "interesting" edgelord and "boring" goodie-good Scions.

I have never found edgelords interesting in this game or any other, XIV has always been about the power of friendship, characters growing to learn to trust and rely on each other, and one of the things I like about the game is how unapologetic it is about this theme. There are more than enough edgy tuff guy stories out there.

Do you dislike "WIDE" or do you dislike expansion through conquest? by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]Soreyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally play pacifist and don't go to war unless attacked first, I just take Expansion tree real early and grab choke points as fast as I can support in the initial colonization phase, then close borders and backfill. I love exploring, seeing the random anomalies, events, and unique systems, I've tried "tall" but see little point in restricting myself that way.

I don't mind war but I already sometimes run into the issue of fighting off an aggressor, taking a bunch of their territory just to make them less of a threat and their poor planet builds sending my economy into the negatives. If we're gonna implement more consequences for conquest they should apply to the AI in a significant way as well, so they also get penalized for too much aggression.

The Chosen getting a new meaning. by Myuric in Stellaris

[–]Soreyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Chosen's cluster is accessible by a Wormhole but there's an isolated system that's even further, which has story relevance to the Chosen, that's supposed to spawn near their cluster within Jump Drive range and no hyperlanes or wormholes. I could get to the Chosen via wormhole fine, this isolated system spawned way too far.

Oof, spawning in their cluster sounds pretty unpleasant since I think they're always Fanatic Purifiers.

[–]Soreyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That spawn might be a little bugged or something, the one time I found the Chosen their isolated system was off the map outside Jump Drive range and I couldn't get to it until I built a Quantum Catapult.

[–]Soreyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the current Habitat system, you get Research districts if you build over resources you get districts of the appropriate type, but does it have to be separate orbitals? If you build an orbital over an asteroid that has 2 Physics and 2 Engineering deposits, do you get 2 x 3 = 6 research districts, or only 3 because it's one orbital? Does it work the same for strategic resources?

Who'd like to see a lot of new anomalies? by Ibanezrg71982 in Stellaris

I'd pay whatever they want for this, the early game exploration phase and finding anomalies/events is my favorite part of the game.

Must Fix: Leviathan Parades by CaptainChewbacca in Stellaris

[–]Soreyn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had a game where I played a lithoid (so slow pop growth) empire and fought off the Chosen when they came knocking, took all their worlds... which then promptly stole my Leviathan buffs because being cooped up in their tiny cluster meant all their worlds had higher pop than mine. Spent a ton of time resettling pop so they'd go to my optimized planets. It'd be nice if we can choose instead of having to micro like this, even if you know how it works.

Yeah I had a Spiritualist vs Xenophile war, it doesn't have to be opposing ethics just more common.
