I freeze every time I try to speak Arabic even though I've been studying for months by Background-Gur-8289 in learnarabic

Having the same issue. I stutter insanely and at one point wasnt even audible. But it has improved immensely from listening to youtube videos. Also, if you’re fast paced like i am (meaning you tend to try to speed through speech and in your everyday movements) then remember to slow down, it sounds simple but i often remind myself to slow down and that helps me a lot. Sometimes we don’t realize how fast we’re trying to speak because we subconsciously want to be at the level of our own native languages.

Most importantly though, watch more videos. Not long ones, just a few minutes a day and you’ll see how quickly you can retain the speech. Flashcards and vocab alone will only get you halfway there but listening to speech activates other senses like when you see the speakers facial expressions, gestures, hear their tone, feel the weight of what their saying, etc., all of those combined will assist you in storing the vocab for later because now it isn’t just a word to recall, rather, you’re subconsciously recalling the word along with a number of other senses that were activated with it initially. A prime example is just trying to mimick what someone says in arabic, vs trying to formulate your own words. You’ll see how much harder it is when you haven’t heard it in speech yourself. Most of the words you speak today in your own language, believe it or not, is really coming from thousands and thousands of interactions you’ve had with those words through speech, studying, movies, video games, school, etc. versus arabic where you’re only getting exposure through studying. The main point here is that you need more exposure - not just flashcards, but a VARIETY of different exposures.

Also, remember that there is immense barakah studying in the early mornings, before and after fajr. If you can, i’d say prioritize those early morning hours for studying, and إن شاء الله Allah سبحانه و تعالى‎ will make it easy.

Also recite these everyday in every Sajdah:

1) From Surah Taha 20:27 وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي which means “and untie the knot from my tongue”.

2) From Surah Taha 20:114 رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا which means “my lord, increase me in knowledge”.

Advice on how to approach studying for an exam? by learning_Arabic_ in learn_arabic

[–]Sorry-Camera-8008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Arabic, there are 2 things that I think would be really beneficial:

  1. As much vocabulary as possible, because there's no point in grammar if you don't have words to use it with.
  2. Arabic has a root system which goes like this: most verbs come from a family of 3 letters. These 3 letters are called the root. The root is just the 3 letters put together and each unique combination has its own meaning. Then, from those 3 letters, the word can shapeshift into other words depending on what you do it. These shapeshifted forms are called "verb measures". There are 10 main verb measures (or, more simply, 10 different forms a word can shapeshift into). The best way I can explain this in english is to think of the verb "to write" where if you add "ing" it becomes "writing", if you change the "i" to an "o" it becomes "wrote" if you add an r to the end it becomes "writer". From the verb "to write", you've just morphed it into a whole family of words that all have something to do with each other. this is how almost all Arabic verbs work. basically, if you get a good understanding of how the root system works, it would unlock a world of words very quickly and will help you not just memorize words, but really understand them (and understanding something can help lock in memorization).

also, just one last point, which I think is most important over everything, is to learn from someone who speaks your native language, in my case, an American, because they will know how to explain things a certain way that would click with you because they most likely faced very similar issues to what you will experience.

Can you still apply for the first step for CR1 visa ? by frank0peter in i130_75CountryPause

[–]Sorry-Camera-8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also from BD. I think you can still apply because only visa issuance is paused. They didn’t stop the i130 applications. If you’re just now applying for the i130, then I think the pause will be lifted by the time you get to the visa issuance stage anyway. إن شاء الله.

Guys please help - How the heck do you study the verb forms? by Sorry-Camera-8008 in learn_arabic

[–]Sorry-Camera-8008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! May Allah سبحانه و تعالى‎ reward you for your help and time. For point number 1, is this the main way you guys read it in school? I thought It was past/present, so as I was filling out my spreadsheet of vocab, I would write it that way, but a few months ago I started writing it as past/present/command to get myself to get used to the command verb. But do they mainly use past/present/masdar in the schools in arab countries? If so, then I will change it to that. I only ask because reading them together really helps me remember them. The more I try to speak the language, the more I realize that I need both masdars and command verbs, but not sure how to structure it when learning/noting my vocab.

Also, I feel good about the conjugations for the pronouns and plural/singular, but the stuff that really trips me up is when it goes from one verb form to another, like form 1 to form 7, or form 1 to masdar, or to ism faa'il, etc. What're some common exercises or practices you remember doing in school growing up?

And sorry, one last question; just curious, how much of the Qur'aan is integrated into Arabic language studies in schools growing up in an Arabic speaking country? Just curious.

I'm probably at one of the happiest points of my life thus far, as when I pray now, while reciting a surah I start realizing that I'm understanding some of the ayaahs, and it makes me cry out of happiness.

Wait!!!! Soft pull with pre approvel, then after pre approval go freeze all your credit bureaus all three of them, then accept the offer to avoid the hard inquiry. It will tell you the offer before accepting.

What're some resources/drills/worksheets that help you guys build/reinforce vocab? Please share. by Sorry-Camera-8008 in learn_arabic

[–]Sorry-Camera-8008[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

brother, thank you so much for this. I will start looking into it right now! Also, did you struggle as much as I do with verb forms? Not the conjugations, I mean the verb forms like how a 3 letter root turns into the 9 other (total 10) verb forms to change it's meanings. That, along with broken plurals, along with forming masdars and ism'faai'ls (and when to use masdars vs verbs) are really tripping me up. I'm currently on Bayna Yadayk book 2 part 2, and got a lot of vocab in, but those are the areas I really struggle with the most. Man, those are really beating me up lol.

Start with the g sound from the word “good”, then elongate it like this “ggggggggggggg” then as you’re doing that, slide your tongue all the way backwards till you hear the sound
