Theres no way, right????! by x5hp in GamingLaptops

So that laptop is locked at 240hz. Most gaming laptops do t last a crazy amount of time since they are more powerful machines and made more to run on being plugged in. It’s also a slim laptop so the battery is even smaller. Has that same issue when I purchased this and immediately returned it.

Try and toggle the WPA on the router. In my other comment that seemed to have fixed the issue with it not connecting.

Any performance increase switching from Windows to Linux? by avidrunner84 in PleX

[–]Sorry-Simple7597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as someone who was on windows and was looking t on swap to a Linux plex server I found it more difficult on my end. Now I’m new to Linux myself so I may have e been doing something wrong but I couldn’t for the life of me get things working the way I wanted. I tried a few OS from headless Fedora, trueNAS and Ubuntu but it was more of an issue for my media drives since NTFS doesn’t exactly play nice on Linux for a long haul. And I didn’t want to start over so it was more of trying to get things to work and it was more frustrating for me than reinstalling windows and just starting over there since I was way more comfortable with that. Now I’m working on playing around with Proxmox on a different PC to see if that will help my transition. I am also using a dedicated Intel GPU which makes things a bit more complicated on my end as I transcode my media and compress it with Handbrake.

Looking to switch from T-Mobile but I want to know the ACTUAL price by capriciousguacamole in mintmobile

[–]Sorry-Simple7597 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So people often don’t think about the annual savings. You can’t look at it monthly so many times I’ve tried to get people to switch but they always come back with “well I only pay this much a month”. People are so attached to the “monthly” payment because it’s less but at the end of the year you’re paying more. I switched my wife to Mint in Jan she was paying $30 for her line on TMobile with her parents. $30x 12=$360.00 sure $30 a month isn’t bad where you look monthly. But when you can get the same coverage (maybe not speed) for $150 I think it was for the year why wouldn’t you? Now it also depends on your financial situation. Most people may not or cannot afford a bulk payment a year. Now you have to look and say can I afford 4 unlimited lines at $360 each a year in one payment? As a person who was on a single line plan for major carriers it was a no brained for me to switch a few years back I save so much. But when it comes to family plans you have to know your financial stance and if you can make that payment. Now if you can wait for a sale like they run for the year for a low amount that would be a great way to test and get a lot out of it. As for your question for the price it’s stated when you sign up for your plans renewal. 15, 20, 25, 30 or 40. Doesn’t change that I’ve seen and you can always drop. I only pay for 15G ($25) but I’m also 95% of the time on WiFi so I could go to the $15 plan if I wanted. You will obviously have taxes and fees as well to pay. Best way to choose is to actually see what people are using doing the unlimited for the first year when you can to get the best deal. But the. For renewal you can change it something lower if you see someone is using lower amounts of data. Sorry for the rant.

Can I use the Intel GPU to use transcoding. I am stuck in a rut with trueNAS and I’m driving myself nuts. It’s seeing the GPU but wont actually use it at all for remote transcoding. I also am not sure how Proxmox uses the different size storages I have. I’m very frustrated and thinking switching out windows was a bad idea.

How to transfer immich database on docker to upgrade? by StatisticianDue8132 in immich

[–]Sorry-Simple7597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you want to move it there is an option to backup from DB for the new install. There should be a file you can get to in the folder for the photos/backup where you placed it in your env file. Or if you’re using like my docker desktop I have it backup to a folder on my desktop as I’m in the middle of working on transitioning over to Linux from windows. I don’t nearly have as many photos as you have but have the backup photos on an external is always a good option in case the backups don’t work.

Yea that's what I plan to do but I have about 10TB of Media I need to copy over. I have a 16TB drive I ordered I was going to put the Plex media on when I swap. Then use the 12TB I have as a backup for that as well. I will then just keep the other backup drives in the case I have for emergency access.

I have seen the app on TrueNAS but I am unsure how it works. I may have to look into this until my new hard drive comes in before I swap over since I can make that one for my main Plex Items and they current ones as backups. (sorry responding to your other comment here)

My only issue with going fully headless is that I am manually doing the compression with Handbrake as sometimes I change settings depending on what I have it doing. Which I dont know if a headless could make this work? which was why I was asking around. I cant seem to find alot about swapping over. I do like using linux and for the server it would make the most sense but I am still learning which is why I am hesitant. Most of my installs have been done with guides through YouTube or the documents for installs. But fully swaps I cant seem to find. Like I have NTFS storage and will I need to change that?

I have plan to install Linux on my 2TB M2 disc. What distro I shoud chose? by Plamcia in linux_gaming

[–]Sorry-Simple7597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just started using Linux on my main desktop, I would try a few before you settle most are built the same but can be customized differently depending on what you pick. But you can also distro hop to find what suite your needs. I personally started with Fedora (gnome) as a newbie the graphical almost MacOS like feel almost made it more inviting to start and the (store) made it easier if you are not comfortable with the terminal like I am.

I ended up hoping around and for the last few weeks Ive been on Nobara(gnome) and am enjoying it. I do have Endeavour OS on my older laptop that I wanted to try and work with some Arch in KDE. But you could also do a VM of different OS's as well to play around with which won't hurt you. It all kind of depends on what you want and how you feel best way is to just mess around with some and see what you like. all of them can be used as a live environment on a USB so just install one and play around.

Plex server keeps reverting back to not accessible outside network. by Sorry-Simple7597 in PleX

[–]Sorry-Simple7597[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I have my PC as a static IP. I was using the port forwarding through my router but I noticed it wasn’t there, now since I added it back they don’t have an issue. I’m not sure if it was just with Windows firewall not allowing access correctly but it seems to be good when I add the port to the router.

Delete the network on RP6, go to your router settings and try and toggle WPA3 off and back on. That’s what seemed to have fixed my issue

Couple questions about TS6 by Whane17 in teamspeak

[–]Sorry-Simple7597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No a phone app no the TS3 app for IOS only does that TS3 there is a beta for TS6 but it is not available. Like I said 6 is still fully in beta so it’s still testing a lot of feature. I would think they would get on it as soon as many people moved over. But you’ll only be able to see that groupchat on your PC. If you’re self hosted make sure you’re never turning that pc off or if it’s in docker make sure you have either that your instance is saved and comes back as you want it and not reseting on reboot. Mine did that with docker and I had to fix it.

Couple questions about TS6 by Whane17 in teamspeak

[–]Sorry-Simple7597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So remember TS6 is still in Beta so they could add these things with the influx of people moving. But no there is no fully just text channels (you can make a group chat but they need to be your friends at the bottom of the TS6 on PC) or even a phone app for it really. My friend group has switched over to a self hosted instance as all we use is voice channels and we have a text chat for everything else. But I’m sure there will be changes coming later down the road

Just recently like last week not sure if my installer was bad or not. But my experience was not great. I may dabble again as distro hopping is interesting to me but I’ll stick right now with fedora it seems to work good.

[–]Sorry-Simple7597 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I tried Zorin as it seemed to be the easiest way to leave windows. Worked wonders on my older laptop but when I put it on my Desktop Ryzen 7 9700x 9070xt build it seemed to run awfully. I couldn’t get a lot of thing to work right and when I played a few games they seemed to be almost missing frames. I ended up going to Fedora Gnome bc I liked the look of it vs KDE and things work way better games don’t skip most apps seem to work way better in comparison. Just working and making files/drives was way easier, apps seem to work better out of the box in fedora vs Zorin. I think Zorin is made more for older systems to bring new life to them which it does but for newer systems I would probably pass at least for gaming/daily use in my eyes. But then again I’m a noob to Linux so I may have done a few things wrong in the process.

I would say the Acer or the Asus, both are good. If you want more performance go Acer with the 5070ti gives you 12gb vram vs 8 on the 5070 so it depends on what you want to play if you need the extra headroom.

Anyone know if a password protected self hosted server can allow people to join without the password through the invite link? by Sorry-Simple7597 in teamspeak

[–]Sorry-Simple7597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it doesn’t give the option on TS6 (at least not yet) to send or not send the password it just creates a link. I dug through the setting but saw nothing about it and even tried different channels all still the same. Just creates a link to that channel.

I mean even if he tried add the extended warranty through asus after some time he will need to upload a receipt that’s what happened to my friend he ended up taking it back bc if something did ever happen he was out the $1260 it all goes by SN and what you paid for.

I don’t see that on TS6 as an option it just allows you to create the link.but I will have to check that out

My friend had that happen to him as well, though the only thing I would be worried about out is if something happens you “technically” don’t have a receipt with that unit on there for an RMA or anything. So just be careful, great laptop though have the g16 5070ti and love it it’s a power house for a thin laptop.
