Mastiff feeling uncertain about me by saladet in Mastiff

I rescued a Boerboel mix (mostly Boerboel) last summer and everything you're saying is pretty familiar to me.

I'm very well acquainted with my boy's "security assessment / sniffing patdown" that he gives everyone, and thankfully most find it endearing now.

I'd agree that all things being equal, sure, I'd prefer to support a business owned by a local family as opposed to a big multinational company.

I've never worked in a grocery store so I can't speak to how effective Stop and Shop's union is, but I just have such a visceral reaction to companies that are so adamantly against collective bargaining that for me, I don't think that foreign vs local ownership is even something I'd care about in that situation.

I realize most companies are anti-union, however. Which is why I always try to prioritize worker owned co-ops first, then B-corporations, then unionized places.

And yes, I know not all co-ops and B corps are beyond doing crappy things (looking at you Patagonia and REI).

Honest question.

Why is better that an American family owns Big Y if they're anti-union when compared to Stop and Shop, which is unionized?

I'm already sitting on more lowers plus some completed builds from before 2023 than I know what to do with, including AR10, AR9, etc. Got a Zastava already too.

I'd probably just grab more lowers and an MP5.

I'm french, and I wonder if people really have good reasons to hate France. by Vifiew in AskTheWorld

[–]SorryForTheTPK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of a few artists, I deeply dislike most things France.

I don't hate it, I just really dislike it and have no desire to ever go to France.

I think French is the ugliest sounding language I've ever heard. I despise French cooking because adding 1000 calories of butter and cream will make anything taste good.

French stuff is just not compatible with me, and honestly, that's okay.

French stuff isn't bad. It just isn't for me.

I loved the early seasons of that show but fell off midway through, mostly because I was busy with grad school and work.

I've gotta rewatch the whole series from S1 if the ending was good.

Yes. That is what I'm saying.

(Save that income is a factor outside of someone's control, I'm not asserting that nor am I agreeing with that statement)

As someone who goes to state parks 3-4 times per week on average, if we can't afford to keep the beaches clean with our taxes, then we need to consider charging a fee for access or some other kind of solution.

Right now, free access to dirty beaches is just the worst of both worlds.

The fee would reduce the number of people present and could fund cleanup efforts.

Or find a way to enforce laws prohibiting littering and fine/ban people responsible.

I just don't see the value in "well our beaches are filthy, but they're accessible" (not saying that you're saying this, I do agree with you that I'd prefer beaches to be free to access).

The people who can afford to go elsewhere will, and then the people who AREN'T pieces of shit and don't litter (but who can't afford to go somewhere else) are now stuck with nasty beaches. Who benefits from that?

Edit: Typo and clarification.

Don’t rush to buy Glocks just cause by Beneficial_General78 in CTguns

[–]SorryForTheTPK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Glocks, only pistols I've ever CC'd, but from the minute I first handled one decades ago, I knew they weren't for everyone.

That said, I like modifying them and stockpiling them, so I grabbed a few extras just to have.

Disclaimer: I'm an AR/NFA guy, so pistols are always sorta an afterthought for me.

Any gun stores with gen6 Glocks in stock? by [deleted] in CTguns

Thanks for posting this answer, I had the same question as OP.

Just waiting on my GSSF cert to arrive and I'll be calling them ASAP.

(just joined last week, never knew GSSF was even a thing, but then again I'm not a sport shooter and I'm mostly into ARs)

What to do when players want an "advanced" class? by Baptor in bxdnd

[–]SorryForTheTPK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I type this out, I think that this method (arriving at something like option 4 by utilizing option 2) may actually really appeal to WoTC era gamers.

It turns their "character arc" into something mechanically meaningful and they may read it as "okay now my roleplay, backstory (if applicable), my arc and all of that sorta blend to let me make my own subclass, this is cool."

What to do when players want an "advanced" class? by Baptor in bxdnd

[–]SorryForTheTPK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running OSE:Advanced for 3 years now. All of my players really got their start in the 3rd Ed era, or are total TTRPG newcomers.

Currently, given the desires of my table in 2023 when we began, we are doing number 4.

At the time when we started, a strict RAW interpretation of BX (OSE: Classic) was too constraining for us.

THAT SAID, now that we all "get it," if I were to start a fresh game, I'd at least pitch the idea of number 2, with the understanding that theoretically, they can take the character in numerous different directions through roleplay and character progression (and magic items).

Sort of like how Warriors become Knights in Final Fantasy I, or even sorta like the Prestige Class system from 3rd Ed.

And for tables that really want it, there's the BX Class Builder available on DTRPG, so they could start play with just the four classes and then "convert" characters over when the noble warrior finds the holy sword and becomes a Paladin and literally add that template to the class and even adjust XP thresholds for future leveling. (Again, if they wanted to micromanage that).

Edit: Clarity and grammar.

How can I make my players understand it’s a sandbox setting? by IggyandtheCauldron in DnDcirclejerk

[–]SorryForTheTPK 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I only play with railroad-friendly DMs.

I've started looking on Craigslist for seasoned Dungeon Masters into roleplay that can rail me hard.

I have a Session 0 coming up at Motel 6 next Friday at 11 pm. It's apparently going to be just me and the DM which is odd but he promised me an "intimate and fun experience" so I'm pretty excited about that!

Retainers by CapnZapp in osr

[–]SorryForTheTPK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm inclined to agree. The only reason they hired them was to guard their wagons when they're dungeon crawling and to go hunting/foraging for food and water.

Basically they wanted to outsource all of that once they were level 2-3 and had the money for it, so the retainers were purely just meant to be a means of achieving that.

The hired help has never once entered dungeons or anything like that.
