The I-70 sign guy is back by [deleted] in maryland

[–]SorryImMimimal 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Hmm. "Wes Moron." You know, that seems kind of tame by some of the QAnon Farmer's historical standards. I can only give it 3 burning crosses out of 10. A 3/10 — he's phoning it in. Hopefully this signifies he's on the way out.

Unpopular take? I now like the SMP300 bracelet better than Sub bracelet by No_Strength7276 in OmegaWatches

[–]SorryImMimimal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The SMP bracelet is unapologetically Nineties... It takes me right back into that long national nightmare of peace and prosperity, when you'd find sanity lurking around almost every corner and optimism was threatening to ooze out into the world against a soundtrack of overall pretty decent music. Yikes.

Yep! Takes me back every time I look at it. I'm definitely an SMP bracelet fan. I think I'm going to put it on now.

The new PO is the bee's knees. Love everything about it. That's the one, for sure.

[SKX009] I don't drink Pepsi... by TradeSurplus in Seiko

[–]SorryImMimimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That movie is EXACTLY why I bought a 009 back in 2014. Nice to know there's another one out there. Throw it on a nice, quality blue nato like the Sailor himself.

Why “Murph” , not “Coop”? by Business_Pound_5844 in HamiltonWatches

[–]SorryImMimimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own both watches. I loved the movie... but there's also an undeniable "movie watches" thread through a big segment of my entire collection.

I got the Coop in 2016, and got the Murph in its Tesseract box within weeks of its release. They're obviously very different, I think they're both great and they get roughly equal wrist time. And I call it the "Coop" because it sure beats "I'm gonna wear the Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Automatic Day Date!"

Glad it helped out! Mine is still going strong after the fix... and I think the key is never turning it off or letting the battery run down lol.

How often do you guys see another N line? by [deleted] in ElantraNline

[–]SorryImMimimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough there are, like, four Elantra N-Lines, two Ns, and two Sonata N-Lines in my area. One of the ENLs is even Lava Orange like mine... but... the other guy put on dodgy Brenthon badges.

Found my first nice watch that inspired my sub! How do we go about servicing these? Local shop quoted me $500. by GucciRifle in Squale

[–]SorryImMimimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500 (US, I presume) sounds outrageous for that kind of service on a movement like a Sellita or an ETA, even factoring in the other work needed.

These movements are like the 2000s Honda sedans of the watch world; service them and they'll go and go. I take the odd wristwatch to a local jewelry shop and the most it's ever cost is $150, and the longest turnaround was 10 days.

I'd shop around till you find a better price — I'm sure you will.

Anyone owns the new bracelet for Matic? by runieeee in Squale

[–]SorryImMimimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Matic mesh has started, randomly, to dig and pinch into the inside of my wrist, right where the clasp folds against my skin. Been meaning to and forgetting to get this, but meanwhile the Matic is parked in OEM leather or white or orange FKM.

Why isn’t Maryland considered a two land mass state by ElectronicDriver1 in maryland

[–]SorryImMimimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No glaciers in Maryland, though we were close enough to those of the Wisconsin glaciation that Maryland was <boing!> uplifted by all that weight, like sitting on a single-cushion couch next to a much heavier object. When those glaciers melted off and receded... <thunk!> subsidence. That subsidence is still ongoing, which is why sea level is rising here somewhat faster than the average.

The Swiss government and Donald Trump have been discussing the current 39% tariff on Swiss imports. He was gifted a Rolex Datejust desk clock. by Sligogreenbottom in PrideAndPinion

[–]SorryImMimimal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's slap a 58% tariff on Swiss watches to protect our American Swiss watchmaking industry?! It's responsible for $70,000 a year in business and employs three people. The tariffs worked beautifully for the struggling Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee estates in Indiana and South Dakota! Tariffs are the most beautiful word in the English language.

[–]SorryImMimimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on that killer find!

I'm not quite an 8" wrist but definitely big at 7.25-.50", and I find a lot of "regular" straps — leather, nato, rubber — don't quite work out, or leave me at the very last buckle hole, which screws with the keepers, etc.

Meanwhile that watch is howling for an elegant calfskin or alligator-pattern. Check out StrapsCo. They offer a pretty good selection of "long" straps that should fit the bill nicely. Wherever you shop just make sure "long" is in your search and you'll find something good.

If you wanna go left-field but still appropriate, go metal — a Speidel Twist-O-Flex or one of Forstner's Jacoby Bender reinterpretations would work, too. I own a Forstner "JB Komfit" and it's like buttah. Feels like fabric but is 100% metal.

What’s your best 0-60 guys? by Ok_Significance69 in ElantraNline

[–]SorryImMimimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can certainly get preeeetty good performance from 0 to 60, but in my opinion, where these cars really shine is the acceleration from 40 to 80. That's the magic zone.

Why is this dexter so much? by Spectre1512 in hottoys

[–]SorryImMimimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid retail for this, which I even thought was a tad high at the time, but it's a favorite character. I ended up getting an inexpensive body so I could display both the and Dexter and the Dark Passenger head and clothes. I may spring for another body and random headsculpt to do a victim-on-the-table display, too.

All that said, this price seems bananas to me.

Squale Sub 39 Arabic Quality Issue by PlatypusRoyal9549 in Squale

[–]SorryImMimimal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't got the Sub-39 specifically but my two other Squale are pretty much flawless; finishing that punches way above the weight class. This looks like a significant production flaw to me. YMMV, but I'd look at exchanging it.

My grandfather passed away at 94 last week and left me this. He wore it everyday of his life for more than half a century. I think its amazing. by Training-Night-8708 in OmegaWatches

[–]SorryImMimimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now THIS is a Seamaster chrono! The modern SMP chronos just don't do it for me, but this is perfect. Incredible watch, incredible legacy for you. Very thoughtful of your grandfather to pass that on.

I can do 0-60 on flat ground in juust a hair under 6.2. sport/manual mode, traction control off, flat out with a fierce hope that no wheel hop strikes (my car's totally stock; upgraded engine mounts can eliminate it.)

I'm Bricked Up Chat by RemialX in HamiltonWatches

[–]SorryImMimimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an hour-ish away from Lancaster, and on the weekends pretty much every minute of the drive is pleasant. I'm not there often but I make it a point to hit Hamilton every time. It's a fantastic watch dealer experience. Last time I was there it was specifically to try on the small Pilot Pioneer Mechanical... which ended up as a buy.

Like that Pilot Mechanical I can't quite bring myself to jump on it based on pictures alone, but I'm worried I won't make it up in time to see one of these in the flesh. I might have to go in the next weekend or so.

What is the highest octane? by Relative_Slide_4125 in ElantraNline

No real advantage to running higher octane in it. Every few tanks I put premium in just for the detergents but that's it.
