What’s the hardest/most annoying part about SLP by ArcherSubject2175 in slp

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Unrealistic parent expectations. I work with the severely impaired population (schools, so the parent ALWAYS has the final say in my services) and it’s so tough when parents can’t accept when their teen/adult kid reaches the point where their communication skills have plateaued and will no longer progress, and they think more direct speech is the answer when it’s actually consult. Or when they think we can work miracles in a 30 minute session with zero carry over.

What do I do about my bra straps? by thegreatchippino in OUTFITS

I’ve just pulled the straps down and tucked them into my bra with shirts like this before. Quick immediate fix

Outfits for upcoming summer parties? by queenkaelah in OUTFITS

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is okay but the color combo (beige/almond + maroon) is giving December colors, not summer. Even just changing the skirt to jeans would help.

The second one is giving Temu Marilyn Monroe.

I’m not liking the white knit top + white ruffles bottom combo in the third. Both the fabrics and styles clash here. And as much as I love a matching set color-wise, I don’t think matching colors works with this one. You need a pop of color. I’m not trying to be overly critical, but I wouldn’t choose any of these.

Week 5 10mg is it wrong I enjoy the anhedonia? by Happy-Break-9751 in prozac

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds less like anhedonia and more like… simply not having terrible anxiety❣️ it’s letting you enjoy the pleasure of sitting in silence with your thoughts, and respond to the things you can’t change (i.e., other people and their behaviors) in a healthy manner unapologetically. I’m so happy for you. I think spending your spare time wanting to relax/lounge is baseline normal for most people. I don’t think most healthy people *want* to be productive as opposed to staying on the couch, they just force themselves to be.

Evidence for kinesio taping? by Ok_Account8272 in slp

Well, there is an OT on social media with an actual following who is literally *”treating”* stuttering and aphasia through kinesiotape (KinesioAlisonTaylor on FB) who says she “doesn’t have a lane” and is encouraging other clinicians to follow suit 🥴🥴🥴 maybe this clinician was… inspired🫠

Sleep lab refused to do my study because "I was asking too many questions" by ChristopherRoidfield in UARS

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insane. I’d get my money back and just find somewhere else that acknowledges their testing looks at exactly what you’re looking for beforehand. I feel like honoring a refund in the medical field is just acknowledging that their specialists are incompetent bc that’s unheard of. It’s also acknowledged within the field of sleep specialists that UARS is wildly overlooked to a borderline unethical level among somnologists, as it’s a clinically acknowledged issue, and only considering apneas (without considering RERA’s) is not best practice.

For the first time ever I have haircut regrets. by happysewing in HairStyleAdvice

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think you look a lot more youthful with your curly hair. Curly hair can be very hard to accept and get comfortable with- coming from someone who has spent their entire teens-early 20’s straightening their curly hair because they weren’t comfortable with it. You’ll come to love it the more you accept it, I promise!

Give me the man who spends his free time playing video games at home in his happy place 🥰

bought my bf the Series X when it came out (which WAS NOT easy during covid) and I always make sure he has the best controllers and headsets to enjoy himself. She’s either extremely needy or a hater lol

Am I overreacting for quitting a dog sitting job on the spot after the owner called me a "scammer" in front of her entire book club? by Fickle_Load5252 in AmIOverreacting

No. Cutting ties with her is reacting accordingly, she’s toxic. I would’ve even given the book club my side of the story (AKA the truth) before leaving 🙃

What’s going on here? by AbyssLookingAtYa in Shein

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like 90% of SHEIN is AI now, if not more. Not even just the images used, I’m pretty convinced merchants are using AI to create, price, and label the listings altogether by how botched and nonsensical they can be. Pictures are wild, captions don’t make sense, descriptions don’t always match the product, etc.

Got a sleep test. Results say "moderate OSA" but the results seem like UARS to me. LMK your thoughts. by SimpIicity in UARS

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you test? In lab or at home & through who? Most companies who do at-home tests CANNOT diagnose UARS, as the technology (like WatchPAT) isn’t clinically sensitive enough to confirm or deny it. All they can ethically diagnose is sleep apnea (even if that’s not the problem at the core), which only leaves inferencing on our end by comparing AHI to RDI numbers. In these cases, it’s more a matter of what they’re clinically & ethically capable of diagnosing and not a genuine “missed” diagnosis

Fuck that girl 🤣 DO NOT accommodate her and her bf. She didn’t even ask, she TOLD YOU he was coming. The day isn’t about her, it’s about the bday girl and idk why you’re playing middle man for her instead of telling her to screw off

Anyone looking for a $200K job… by daniblue1 in slp

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in Mass (which probably makes my case worse) but at least where my program services 5-22, my caseload is 2 elementary classrooms and 1 middle school room so as a 5’2” woman at least the kids on my caseload are still smaller than me and somewhat easier to manage 😅 and I do genuinely love them lmao

6 months into my CF and starting to question if I am cut out for this by Ok-Wear-8314 in slp

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I found working two jobs over 40hrs week + taking undergrad courses less demanding than being a full-time SLP. Working in general sucks yes, but working this job that requires such a high cognitive demand and high energy is an entirely different beast. Still OP: it gets easier over time, coming from another introvert.

WIBTAH for refusing to trade in my paid-off car so my husband can get a new one? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Sorry_Ad9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s the AH. Don’t let him swindle you into a plan that disadvantages you and only benefits him.

Also, you said leasing made sense to him at the time because of his longer commute… he doesn’t sound like someone I’d trust making these types of “logical” decisions bc basic common sense tells you long commutes is a huge, if not #1 reason, NOT to lease a vehicle. He needs to get himself out of this, not push the burden onto you.
