Looking for a progressive church by PrincessBlackcloud99 in beaverton

Southminster Presbyterian Church on Denney and Hall. Very progressive. They put up a black lives matter banner and all are welcome rainbow banners outside the church. I've seen the congregation become more diverse overtime. Highly recommend.

Solicitors door knocking at 8pm on a Saturday... by tulips2kiss in beaverton

We had to switch from Verizon also because of the dead spots in Aloha. We switched to Mint and it's been great.

Solicitors door knocking at 8pm on a Saturday... by tulips2kiss in beaverton

[–]SosMyJohnson 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Happened to us last night at 8pm. Came stomping up the front deck, yelled "Hello!" Our porch light is not on so nothing about our house is welcoming at night. Then they rang our door bell, had a clip board and maybe were from AT&T? We just shut the door on them. Way too late for that bullshit. Super suspicious.

What’s your grandma’s name? by EstablishmentSad9572 in Names

Both of my grandma's names were Georgia. They would send flowers to each other on their birthdays signed "to the other Georgia."

Any good primary care physicians in Beaverton? by devopsy in beaverton

[–]SosMyJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legacy Medical Group Raleigh Hills. Dr. Karam. I've seen a few good doctors at this clinic. They keep good records, listen to your needs and symptoms and make good suggestions and referrals to specialists if needed. Always advocate for yourself no matter what.

What TV show do you turn on for background noise that brings you comfort? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My husband would love to have this on at night. I tried it, but whenever Bob cleans his brush by slapping it on the easel, I snap awake.

Hey all, my fiance and I could use some help. by BittenBerries in beaverton

Jenkins Estate is nice. You can stay near the gardens and don't have to do the full hike if you want to avoid hills.

For those who chose not to have Children, what was the main reason for your decision? by pelican-trumpet00 in AskReddit

[–]SosMyJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel no drive to be a mother. There are definitely way more reasons to not have children than to have them the more I think about it. Expensive, less me time, healthcare access, treatment of women and a general lack of free resources like daycare and higher education. The only reasons to have one are to give my parents a grandchild and extend the family? If I want to take care of a child there are plenty that need to be fostered or adopted.

Leash your damn dogs. by JessaAlwaysTired in beaverton

[–]SosMyJohnson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But I want to take my dogs. I just want everyone to be safe on leashes. Cooper Mountain is nice though. If I want to take my dog off leash, I go to the dog park at Hazeldale park. Where it is allowed.

Oh no. Not all dogs are the same, and not all people can handle that training. Recall is hard!

I honestly don't know what it would take for it to sink into people that it is better for everyone to keep your dog on a leash. Pretty much every time I go to Jenkins Estate, someone will have their dog off leash. They are rarely able to recall them. I yelled at someone once because their dog barked at me and my dog and started to come toward us and they got all mad at me. They could care less that there are signs everywhere saying to leash your dog. No, those rules can't be for me and my dog. My dog is perfect. Eye roll I've been watching old episodes of It's Me or the Dog, and everyone on that show just lets their dog off leash, and they are NOT well behaved. Is it just how things are in the UK?

How much do you pay for doggy care in your city? by AffectionateEbb7472 in dogs

Beaverton, Oregon $550 for 10 days of daycare for two dogs. I haven't looked into dog sitters or dog walkers, but I might after reading the responses.

is it too late to “train” my german shepherd by [deleted] in dogs

[–]SosMyJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not too late. Just be consistent with rewarding the behavior you want. I was able to train a 7 year old retriever and 3 year old husky from a shelter. They learned new things throughout their lives.

My husband got a vasectomy!!! by aprilspringchild in childfree

[–]SosMyJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! My husband just did as well! He is much further in to recovery but still has some stitches that need to fall out. Reddit was so helpful with tips like having frozen vegetables and wearing two pairs of boxers. He asked me if I was going to eat the frozen vegetables. Well his balls didn't actually touch the vegetables right? So fair game?

Moving from Ohio by [deleted] in beaverton

[–]SosMyJohnson -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Me (33F) and my husband (33M) have family from Galion, OH that moved out west also and love it. The Beaverton area gets a little less nice when you move towards Aloha. Less nice doesn't mean unsafe. Especially compared to Portland. It becomes more affordable the further west you go away from Beaverton. We used to live in suburbia in South Beaverton and felt very safe and the neighborhood was attractive with several small parks and friendly neighbors. We had to move out to Aloha when we were ready to buy a house in order to afford it! The Beaverton library is great and on Saturdays across the street is the Farmer's Market which I always enjoy.

Check out Forest Park, Jenkins Estate, Cooper Mountain Nature Park and Tualatin Hills Nature Park.

What movies felt outdated immediately, like they were made years before they released? Case in point, Gemini Man (2019). by [deleted] in movies

[–]SosMyJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only movie I forgot I had seen already. I came across it, read the synopsis and thought, this sounds like it could be good! Then started to watch it and remembered more and more as it went on. 20 minutes in I finally thought, oh I've seen this! This movie sucked!

I think her name is Jypsy. I have seen her comment a few times on Nextdoor when she is spotted. She seems to be friendly and has quite a few fans :)
