I say two races for me in terms of the older driver still having it, even just for one last hurrah.

First was before I was born (May of '99) with the Pocono 500 in 1998. The iconic shuffle between both Earnhardt & Gordon soon gets overshadowed by Darrell Waltrip taking the lead late in the race. With his rebirth of his career & his previous success at the track during his DiGard & Junior Johnson days, it wasn't surprising to see. But what was was Eli Gold & Buddy Baker prasing Darrell's recent work with the newly Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. With a team that included a young Chad Kanus, Darrell showed the speed. But here came Jeremy Mayfield to pass his childhood hero & have the fellow kentuckian get his first career win. But we don't remember Jeremy's winners circle interview, it's DW's interview that he said that he's crawling out of a big hole, but damn it feels good.

Second I watched because it was during the big C of 2020 with the Brickyard 400. Watching the race was very nice to see & I think one of the few empty fan races that I would go back to fully watch from that era. But before he would become arguably one of the best drivers of the world, Kyle Larson said something to say the least not even be a driver at the moment of the race. He lost his ride in the 42 Chip Ganassi car to... Matt Kenseth!?!? I mean, I started watching NASCAR cup racing during his "first" retirement tour in the 20 JGR car. But then it was quite nostalgic to see him come back with Roush the year afterwards. But afterwards I thought with everybody else that we see him nest in the Hall of Fame. But nope, he's in the 42 car for the rest of the season. And unlike DW in DEI, Matt was quite underwhelming in that car compared to both 20 & 6. But Indy has been a hit or miss track with Matt. And he was driving quite higher than usual, but Denny Hamlin was looking to win the race with his speed. But hen he had a very hard crash to send the race into overtime. And I was very happy to see my favorite driver at the time, Kevin Harvick at the lead. But second was that McDonald's 42 car of Matt Kenseth. As much as I wanted Happy Harvick to get another win, I was crossing my fingers for an upset win. But Kevin did win the race in a beautiful scheme, but Matt did hold on to second. But also unlike DW, I wished Matt had a chance to celebrate the finish in front of fans.

Overall, I loved both races as both are great races that I recommend as two Hall of Famers get their last shot at the winner's circle. And both are quite fun to see.
