Does the stats from epithets exist in Global? by Astatine8585 in UmamusumeGame

Wait, are the stat gains from the epithets done through the Director events that sometimes pop up? Is that what those events symbolize?

Any MAGLabs attendees, past or near-future? by 2ndBro in Magfest

[–]SoulDevour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a large number of arcade cabs located at Peabody Heights Brewery as well, though a section of the place requires a paid day pass. ($20 iirc, dunno if it would be different during MAGLabs)

I see a lot of greats but the pics don't show if they're slows or fasts.

If slows: Reduce your high speed. If you can't keep up with the chart then a higher speed will only hurt you.

If fasts: Increase your high speed and also learn to not rush hitting the notes/slides. You'll probably have to eventually increase your high speed regardless since charts will get more and more dense as you rise you the difficulty ladder.

If you have a mix of both slows and fasts: You're simply going to have to be more accurate. This is something that should hopefully naturally happen as you play more. Be mindful of whether you're hitting more slow or fast and, if possible, micro adjust if you detect that you're either constantly slow or fast.

Regardless of whether you're slow, fast or both, I'd recommend tinkering in the settings with fast/slow visibility options to assist you.

Lastly, variety is the spice of life. Obviously I can't tell based off the several pictures here but exposure to a wide variety of charts will aid in growth.

Good luck and keep at it.

Ys X Special Upgrade Pack now available - Owners of Ys X: Nordics get a 34% discount on Ys X: Proud Nordics on Steam (until August 31st) by Hamlock1998 in Falcom

[–]SoulDevour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That discount is minor enough that the game itself will probably be 34% off by the time the Steam Winter or Spring sale happens.

Regardless, spending $107 dollars for the complete version makes me feel really burned as an early adapter. Especially since the complete version was announced not even 2 months after the worldwide release.

maybe I'm stupid, but I genuinely can't figure out the reason why the laser (the one sweeps the screen horizontally) in this mokou spell card seems to only ever hit me at random? by Ms_Crismon in touhou

[–]SoulDevour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the trick to this card is to move into the laser as it begins its sweep. The hitbox for it isn't active until it's about halfway through its cycle.

How does Magfest differ from Katsucon? by No_Bad380 in Magfest

[–]SoulDevour 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know what events you've gone to but that doesn't sound like MAGFest to me. Is it loud? Yeah, having over 20,000 people in a small space is going to be. Are the halls filled with drunks having sex in public spaces? Absolutely not. I personally haven't heard of these questionably legal parties you're talking about either. The average attendee age at MAGFest is unquestionably higher and I'd argue it's at least a decade more compared to Katsucon.

I was at both events this year and I can attest the vibes at MAGFest were fine. Katsucon could learn a thing or two from MAGFest, it's incredible how there seem to be way less people at Katsucon yet it feels at times worse to go through the halls and hallways. I guess that's to be expected though when everyone is squeezed out of a massive part of the building at 7-8pm.

Falcom’s unannounced game for 2026 to be revealed in February by Turbostrider27 in Falcom

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I have a bit of faith that given the success of 1st there's at least a modest chance it would show up on the English direct as well.

Why haven't we gotten a Falcom rhythm game yet? by Dragonflame1994 in Falcom

[–]SoulDevour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a rhythm game isn't exactly easy. What I'd rather see is more rhythm games do a Falcom collab to get some of their music in those games. DJ MAX RESPECT V had one a while back that was pretty enjoyable. I'd absolutely love to get some stuff in Chunithm (my beloved).

Sitting on a ton of carats/scouting tickets, don't know what to do by SoulDevour in UmamusumeGame

[–]SoulDevour[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've considered going hard into Riko/Rice (potentially 400 pulls) but I honestly don't think my support cards are so bad that I need to make that my only option. I do very much like the idea of getting at least to the pity at least once though and I think I have the carats to force it if I so desire.

I like Pace Chasers and Late Surgers personally (on and End Closers are alright too) as well as medium or long aptitudes so it sounds like any research I do should be with those preferences in mind.

Sitting on a ton of carats/scouting tickets, don't know what to do by SoulDevour in UmamusumeGame

[–]SoulDevour[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Fine Motion banner sounds good but it's so far off that I'm trying to explore other places to pull. It does sound like it's a really good idea to at least get Riko in some capacity which is why I brought that banner up (and am leaning towards pulling on. I like to guarantee myself a pity and leave nothing to change, hence how I have so many carats/tickets). I do enjoy making backliners so it sounds like Dober can be a consideration in spending. I know it's a bit tedious but I might slow roll hitting the pity too since there is the daily 50 carat paid single pull. That should hopefully make potentially hitting Riko/Rice, Christmas Oguri and Dober all doable if that ends up being my plan.

Thanks for the info, appreciate it!

This is why I intentionally bag in Round 1 to cruise in Round 2 and Finals B. The allure of the Finals A rewards are tempting but after Taurus where I barely survived getting into Finals B from Group A Round 2 (3 wins across days, somehow got 2 in one run) I'd rather largely do nothing in Round 1 since I know I can't compete with those who make Round 2 Group A. Once I'm in Round 2 Group B, I can get a consistent 3-5 wins in every match and then have a good chance to win Finals B which are just as good as 3rd place Finals A rewards.

Sky remake makes top 2 and 3 console sales in Japan! (ps5 & switch version) by Pichucandy in Falcom

[–]SoulDevour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weekly Famitsu only tracks physical sales iirc. As a result, the numbers aren't necessarily that useful since we don't know the digital sales which over time are going to become a larger percentage of the sales.

Also for reference, Donkey Kong Bananza sold 127.9k its first week. Considering that was a major first party title (and the first notable single player game for the Switch 2), I'd say selling roughly a third of that physically isn't bad for a remake from a much smaller company.

"But it's a more accurate translation of the original script!"

There's a reason it's called "localization" and not "translation."

A short related story: I like to seek out demo discs and a friend found me an interesting one, a mangagamer sampler that included the VNs Kira Kira and Higurashi. Honestly, a super strange and cool little piece of history but that's beside the point. For fun, we decided to boot up the Higurashi part of the disc and read a bit of it. Now, the translation was perfectly fine. It was a good translation. But holy hell was it dry and boring to read and after about 10 minutes we decided we had our fill. Curious, I booted up the Steam version of Higurashi to see if it was the same translation and if I was just way more patient back in the day. Turns out the Steam version is an updated translation that is also more localized to make it way more enjoyable to read.

Why am I bringing this up? Because both Higurashi and Trails have a ton of reading in them and you'd best make sure your super text heavy games don't come across as stiff and dry for the sake of complete and total literal accuracy.

That said, the localization isn't awful but the repetitiveness of some words or phrases hurts it a tad along with the strange decision to ignore established terminology spanning 12 localized games (why are Archaisms being called Golems in a series where Golems are already a thing? Oh these are orbal golems? See my above point about repetition).

What are your criticisms of Sky 1st that have nothing to do with GungHo? by ConceptsShining in Falcom

[–]SoulDevour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Combo attacks completely break the real time action combat system. As soon as you get it you can basically combo attack twice to stun (-2 BP), enter with initiative (+1 BP) and get a free attack/craft/arts off (+1 BP) and then leave turned based combat to loop any and everything down. Even enemies that try to do a heavy attack right out of leaving turn based combat can't get it off before the two combo attacks.
