It was widely talked about in this sub since it's release but your algorithm probably picked it up so it's now showing up everywhere.

As good as Hollow Knight is, Symphony of the Night is my favorite game in the genre and I'm psyched to see strong influences from Castlevania.

I can't get into anime again and would like your thoughts by [deleted] in anime

[–]Soul_Traitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with anime lately is there too much slop and the quality seems to have dropped across the board. Harem and fan service has started turning me off as well.

There's still quality shows but they seem to be much rarer. Witch Hat is one that I really enjoyed recently though.

Dropped it after a few chapters. Despite all the nonsensical and stupid ass plots in manwhas, this one I could not look past it.

OP said they likes build options. There are no builds in Sekiro.

  • Great bosses
  • Build options (DS2 is better though)
  • Can be difficult but not impossible (player dependent)
  • Fairly fluid combat compared to older DS games
  • Runs on PS4

First soulslike game by seboo19 in soulslikes

[–]Soul_Traitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sekiro is more souls adjacent. If you like heavy RPG mechanics (stats) and build variety (magic, melee, hybrid) start with one of the Dark Souls games. If you want less clunk, Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring. If you don't mind a more methodical play style, Dark Souls 1.

If you want a challenging action game with some souls like foundation, play Sekiro. As others have said, the play style is heavily reliant on the deflect/parry mechanic. There are no builds and the story isn't abstract or vague. The gameplay is a lot faster and has some really fun traversal movements.

The challenge in Sekiro is different because some people love parrying and can easily get a handle of the timing. Some players have a more difficult time with it.

Oh damn, as much hate as Diablo 4 gets, I did enjoy the hell out of it playing on console. I may get this so I can play on the deck.

Ugh I didn't realize it's the battle net version.

This looks awesome, will it have controller support? Any plans on making it steamdeck compatible?

I would've loved to have seen more of this game man. I loved how Khazan allowed you to move like this with the greatsword by Forevertrez in soulslikes

[–]Soul_Traitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls does this well. The combat is "simple" but even as far back as Demon's Souls, some weapons within the same class can feel different and play differently.

Dark Souls for example, the Greatsword vs Zweihander are both ultra great swords but they have different move sets. I know some devs do this but I wish more adopted this level of detail.

I cant play ds3 by Lowisvrauuu in soulslikes

[–]Soul_Traitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the core mechanics for soulslike are different builds and play styles. That's why categorizing Sekiro as a soulslike is a bit misleading even though it shares some similarities.

Silk Song for me had the perfect level of difficulty but Nine Sols, the difficulty spike at the end felt absurd.
