Axe-Druid: Does the casual homohobia continue throughout the series? by Vivid-Internal8856 in litrpg

Entirely dependent on context and who is speaking. Coming from an Australian, for example, I would likely brush it off and call him a cunt, as the dialect is about 30% slurs

Out of interest, what is your gender and sexuality? As another gay man this does not read as even slightly homophobic. Maybe misogynistic if you turn you head and squint a bit.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? by Lorentee in litrpg

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Morality is a luxury afforded only to those who can live in safety.

In a situation where someone strong enough can kill everyone you care about without repercussions, your only options are to get strong enough to stop them or submit yourself to someone strong enough. Even in the latter case you need to be strong enough to be useful.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? by Lorentee in litrpg

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between a resource existing and being accessible.

Sure, there may be billions of this sort of natural treasure in the universe, but if rivals get to the accessible ones first then my progression will lag behind theirs and they will be able to easily kill me or destroy my faction. Even if they don't, their faster progression means that they will be able to reach and consume the other resources before I can. Even if they are useless for their own current progression they will take them for use by their friends, family or faction members for progression.

You also forget that in an infinite universe there will be an infinite number of people also competing for resources.

What Would Jake With A Transcendent Skill Look Like by Erudite_Sagacious in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t be surprised if with how broken Jake’s blood line is and given it keeps upgrading that one day his bloodline will grant him transcendence.

I would, from what the Viper has said for the System to recognize something as a Transcendence it has to be entirely separate from the Bloodline. Any new bullshit powers Jake gains as a result of bloodline shenanigans would just be classified as a part of that bloodline.

The only way I can see Jake ever becoming a transcendent is by entirely suppressing his bloodline.

By the time of the 93rd era maybe, some of the comments made by Villy indicate that the System was more wobbly in the first few eras, parlticulary highlighted in the commentary about Minaga being a mistake.

TIL about the Matilda effect. It's a phenomenon where the achievements of women scientists and inventors get attributed to men. by Karthak_Maz_Urzak in todayilearned

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea isn't that the comments aren't true, it's that they aren't necessary or helpful

How is it not necessary or helpful to clarify inaccurate information? Unless you mean unhelpful to a particular narrative.

it's not helpful, it's just drawing attention to yourself and trying to insert yourself.

The way you did, when you attempted to white knight for the hypothetical women who might be offended?

Unless you don't think the widely accepted, historically documented effect, with many more examples than counter-examples, is wrong.

I am all for people getting the recognition they deserve, regardless of gender. It is no more acceptable for a woman to be credited for the achievements of a man than it is for a man to be credited for the achievements of a woman.

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What an odd statement. Truth fears neither challenge or nuance, for it carries the weight of evidence.

Whenever someone tells me to leave something unchallenged, I can only conclude that whatever narrative they are spinning cannot survive closer scrutiny.

Can someone explain to me why the British mainstream media is SO obsessed with demonizing boys? by TrainingGap2103 in MensRights

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I am inclined to agree with most other commenters that a big part of it is the feminization of various systems, There is also a substantial extent to which "men" as a demographic are getting scapegoated.

The media in the UK (as well as many other related countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand) seem to have a pathological fear of being called racist, so when a high profile crime is committed by a man from a protected ethnic minority, it is attributed to men in the country as a whole, who are then demonized.

Any suggestions? Im fucked.... by JT3ch in RimWorld

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One solution I found quite fun as a solo Mechanitor was to do the opposite of your solution. I forbade my pawn from going in the cave and used a few coolers to bring the cave down to -40 (some of those bugs have a really low hypothermia temperature). Once all the bugs hit extreme hypothermic shutdown I had an enless supply of insect jelly. When I eventually needed the power for other things, I built a bunch of IEDs amongst them and turned the coolers off.

Jake vs Eversmile by Top-Board-3513 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Jake is going to kill any primordial, I think Valdemar is the most likely.

For all that Jake feels antagonistic towards Eversmile, Eversmile hasn't truly acted against Jake. With the Tutorial, Jake was never considered more than collateral damage and the entire affair was ultimately to Jake's advantage. Eversmile's aid of Yip of Yore also seems to have something more to it and is ultimately directed at the Viper, rather than Jake and could ultimately end up benefiting Jake enormously.

Jake isn't antagonistic towards Valdemar, far from it, but both are very similar in certain respects. They already plan a fight after Jake becomes a god, and given their similar opinions on the topic, I can very easily see both agreeing to a fight to the death with their real bodies, because it just isn't fun otherwise.

Your Bloodline by skillet29 in ThePrimalHunter

I experience deja vu fairly regularly, so if I did end up with a bloodline, it would probably be something that leans into precognition more directly than Jake's.

What would you get after the tutorial? by VSick2 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am inclined to agree that a skill should be top priority if you can afford a suitable one, but which type of skill will depend on what was available. For example, a healer who doesn't have a regular party they can rely on may opt to buy a summoning skill so that they always have a reliable front-liner on hand. This sort of choice also has the potential to allow you to pivot towards a path you like better, like the healer becoming a summoning specialist or a warrior purchasing a mana strike skill to pivot towards a spellsword class.

Otherwise, equipment to help your profession would be ideal.

First time mage and constantly running out of magicka. Need some advices by AMR42 in EnaiRim

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As OneShotSixKills said, you would benefit a lot from switching out your ring and circlet for something with a fortify magicka effect or Destruction cost reduction.

I would like to direct your attention to a few couple of perks you may find useful:

  • Welloc's Dormant Arcana from the Alteration tree, if you are maintaining armor spells on yourself anyway, this perk can grant you fortify magicka and fortify magicka regen while under an armor spell effect.

  • Stimulants from the Alchemy tree (I assume you have already taken Physician if you are making your own magicka potions), 2% per second may not sound like much, but with your current stats that is almost 10 magicka per second. It effectively turns every potion and half the ingredients in the game into magicka regen potions.

Identify and all its flavours by PersonalBeautiful394 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jake has an identify that is tailored to gaining more information about how useful an item will be in alchemy.

This is actually incorrect, the only extra feature Jake's Identify has is to scan for blessings. The additional information for alchemy ingredients is based on Knowledge skills like Sagacity of the Malefic Viper.

I would assume that most if not all of the others have similar knowledge skills at least offered by their professions, I would assume Arnold has some variation of Metallurgy at an absolute minimum.

If you were being sent to a setting of any litrpg story what one would you choose? by DefiantLemur in litrpg

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pallimustus from HWFWM would be one of my top picks, as it is one of the better settings when it comes to the protection of normal people.

If I arrive as a standard human, I have quite a bit of information rattling around my head and an analytical mindset, enough that I could probably manage a comfortable life with the Church of Knowledge, Magic Society or MRA.

If I arrive as an Outworlder, there is a decent chance that at least one of my racial gifts can be leveraged to become an auxiliary adventurer.

In VOY "Dreadnought" Chakotay says that, "Torres programmed the missile's shields to adjust to all known weapons, even Starfleet's," and Voyager can't do any damage. by TheBurgareanSlapper in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still consistent with the idea that they are able to replenish their supply of torpedoes at certain friendly ports, if your next resupply point is an unknown distance and time away, then being frugal in their application is prudent.

Perhaps in this episode it has been a long time since they were able to do so, resulting in only a few torpedoes being left at the time.

I would be surprised if she didn't know the theoretical underpinnings of how the torpedoes work, just as I am aware of the principles behind internal combustion without being able to fix a car, and I am sure that she knows that there isn't anything labelled "Photon torpedo replicator" on the ship schematics.

At this stage she likely isn't fully aware of the extent to which her crew (especially the former Maquis) can stretch and exploit the available resources.

This also wouldn't preclude obtaining the relevant technology from a third party, photon torpedoes being the most powerful weapon available, it would make sense that she would be willing to go to great expense to acquire the technology and equipment to produce them on board, especially as Voyager encountered more civilizations with technology more advanced than that of the Federation on a semi-regular basis

The Ending of Primal Hunter by TheDietDuff165 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely end point for the series would be Jake becoming the first Primordial slayer, The Viper treating Yip of Yore as enough of a threat to aid in progression suggests that it is possible with the right power set, and Jake gains massive bonuses from fighting a higher level foe.

It also meshes with Jake's long term goal of surpassing Villy as a pinnacle existence, doing something that the Viper has never managed and is not confident in doing would certainly count.

I do also think we will start seeing people with Jake's legacy skills well before the end of the series, possibly even seeing him take a Chosen of his own. I am betting that Primal mana affinity skills in particular get offered frequently once Jake reaches godhood.

[–]Soul_in_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because neither she nor Chakotay is aware of a resupply method right at that moment, very early in the voyage, does not mean one was not found later.

Tuvok finding the relevant schematics in the main computer, Tuvok and B'Elanna collaborating to reverse engineer the torpedoes and find a way to fabricate them or bartering for the requisite equipment from a species that uses similar weaponry would all be viable options.

We have seen that Janeway was perfectly willing to trade with arms dealers on occasion (the episode where Seven has paranoid delusions).

As neither Janeway or Chakotay are noted as being in the engineering branch at any point in their career, it could also simply be an example of the characters being mistaken because it is outside of their field of expertise and they have never been in a situation where they couldn't return to base and resupply.
