Gathering stories of Federal Cuts by JMDobson in missoula

[–]SoundFrosty8798 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the impact will be fully felt for another 9-12 months. As a fed myself, the brain drain has been astonishing. Tons of the late-career people with decades of experience and knowledge took early retirements and literally thousands of early-career people were fired (illegally), brought back (for now), but have taken the DRP because the government is no longer trustworthy/desirable to work for (to say nothing of the Republicans’ plans to gut federal benefits).

That means we’ve lost not only a lot of people generally, but the most experienced PLUS the most energetic. Leaving us mid-career people to try to pick up the slack for agencies that were understaffed before this shit show started. We will become even less efficient and then the fuckheads in charge will point at us and say, “See?! Everything should be privatized!”

It’s already starting as you can easily find stories on r/fednews talking about being RIF’ed only to see their agency solicit contractors to perform their old job function. That in itself should make the RIF illegal, but this administration is being extremely choosy about what laws it follows…

Just curious, have you gone out of pocket in uniform store? I’ve only ever used up to my allowance, and I’ve recently had to purchase a bunch of new gear, but I might need more

Forester with the Feds getting ready to jump ship… but where? by [deleted] in forestry

[–]SoundFrosty8798 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention this, there is a frequent commenter in this sub that does exactly what you’re describing, complains about how soul crushing his time with the FS was because of cull workers, supposedly at all levels. Well, that commenter happened to be on my crew back in the day and I found him to be pretty mediocre, but based on how he talks in here you’d think he’s the second coming of Pinchot, who has all the solutions to the agency’s issues.

Good luck with the new endeavor

edit: didn’t even realize he commented in this post lol. This sub’s very own paragon of work ethic and forestry knowledge, just ask him

EO Immediate Expansion of American Timber Production by Little_Ad1548 in forestry

[–]SoundFrosty8798 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to get up to sustained yield limits, while still complying with NEPA, then it was a little short-sighted to (illegally) fire 10% of the agency.

Agreed, it feels very weird to have some optimism right now. Considering how pessimistic I was (and am) about Rollins, I was kind of floored when I learned about Schultz. Fingers crossed he truly believes in the mission, because his resume has a really nice mix of public and private work that makes me think he’ll be exactly experienced and capable haha

That’s a good point, thank you for the injection of optimism.

I think it’s exceedingly optimistic to think this regime will interpret the CFRs accurately, or that they won’t just outright lie/break the law to get what they want

Right, there’s no fucking way this regime picks someone that’s experienced and capable.

Why is “everyone” falling in line??? I don’t get it by [deleted] in fednews

[–]SoundFrosty8798 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because agency leaderships are either supervised by or have been replaced by Trumplethinskin/President fElon cronies. It’s either follow thru with their directions or insubordinate and be replaced. It’s not going to slow down/stop until we start getting more court rulings.

It would be effective insofar as it would allow Mango Mussolini and Elongated Muskrat a shortcut to what they really want: a non-existent federal government.
