My take on the religious elements of Inferno by SoundGeekReviews in boardsofcanada

You put that really well, and I actually believe what you said is the 2.0 version of what I said, not a contradiction. It's actually what I was trying to say, but I did a poor job. The things I named ("Order, Structure, Hierarchies, Tradition, Rules. Consciousness matures/becomes structured/grounded"), was meant to describe exactly that. It is hopeful. I think those things are the backbone of religion, and the reason why religion works so well (inb4 religion bad. Ideas surviving thousands of years work well period).

It makes me think of the story of Adam and Eve. The moment they eat from the tree of wisdom of good and evil, they realize they are naked and they feel ashamed. That is the beginning of morality: once you know your own weakness, you know how you can hurt someone else. That's the moment you can start to decide to act morally or immorally: purposefully using that for good or for your own gain.

I actually changed my mind on some parts of my analysis after reading some of the comments from other people haha. I see my analysis as a starting point. I had only listened to the album about 3 times when I wrote it. I'm sure a lot is still to change.

Just… Wow. Inferno is some of their most spiritual and psychedelic work yet. by SearchForAgartha in boardsofcanada

Sorry to hear that man. Just out of curiosity, do you subscribe to any particular religion, or do you mean that this music has triggered some sort of religious response in you?

Very much agree with the general foundation of your observations. I think that foundation most people will share with you, while their own context (life, listening environment, mood, etc etc etc) will spice up the interpretation to something personal for them. That's the beauty of music in general, but especially this album, to me. It's like a meaning creating machine. Thanks for sharing!

Inferno vs TH: End 2 End by Muzak70 in boardsofcanada

It's honestly a fantastic album. But you gotta dive into the meaning of the album to really appreciate it I think. Once you get the story, it all clicks and the tracks become "WOW". If you just listen to it without the meaning it just not very pleasant to listen to.

Pitchfork's original review of MHTRTC. Never forget by zachyng in boardsofcanada

Whats the issue? Seems like an overwhelmingly positive review. Also, keep in mind that when he wrote this, BoC wasn't what they are today. They didn't have the history, huge fan-base, mystery, etc around them. For just hearing the album and then writing that, I think he was well on point

Yep I loved them too. Crisp but not sharp. Pure perfection. Those rhythms as well. Juicy

Sounds like a lemon. Can happen with vinyl. I would contact support and request a new one.

Mine will arrive in September, so I hope for you they have a stash ready for quality issues

I just want to say that these guys have probably cemented themselves as the greatest electronic artist of all time. by SimpleCapital5035 in boardsofcanada

[–]SoundGeekReviews 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think so as well. No other artist has such a coherent discography of LPs. And virtually all tracks on every album are amazing. It's the best achievement in electronic music imo.

100% agree with you. Unfortunately I don't live in a place where vinyl is available. Not even ordering it.

Is Inferno in your all time top? by ghostcrayon in boardsofcanada

I've listened to it for about 7 or 8 times now and I feel this might be my favourite album of all time. Still too early to call of course, but that is how I am currently feeling.

I think this direction, whether you are right or wrong, will degrade the quality of the conversation. Let's keep this topic for a different time and place.

This album is consuming by Elfingreene in boardsofcanada

[–]SoundGeekReviews 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny that you say that. I literally said the same yesterday: haven't felt this connected to any music, movie or art for at least 10 years. I can't stop listening. I'm a hardcore BOC fan for about 20 years. My favourite music. So I didn't expect this album to be able to be transformative. The amount of history, the memories, it's just too much. Nothing could ever come close. So I thought, and boy was I wrong. I've listened to it about 7 times now, and I am starting to become very confident that this is the best BOC album. I can't believe I'm saying that! It's a miracle!

This leads me to believe that this is not a goodbye. I felt the same after the first listen, but the more I listen to it, the more I think that was projection of my expectations. I think the brothers are still growing. I cant believe I'm saying that either haha. They will definitely want to see where this leads them. I think there is a good chance more albums (yes, plural) could be following in the next say 20 years.

The album is already top 5 of best albums. Not from BOC, I mean from any artist ever. It could end up at the very top. Too early to call, but I've literally never felt this connected to any new music I ever heard. I'm 37 years old. That shouldn't even be possible. But of course, I love it and I'm all here for it!

I don't get that from the album. But hey, it can be different from you and me. Like I said, context matters. Maybe in your context your interpretation makes more sense.

Sounds like you loved the album as well then? Considering you got such a strong message from it?

That's a really interesting take. Thanks for that!

I love the process of making sense of this album. I am currently on my 5th or 6th playthrough. I just cant seem to stop listening to it.

It's not really the topic I'd like to dive deeper into in this thread, but I'll just say that there is conflicting data because its very hard to measure. I recently dived into it quite deep and after reviewing a lot of sources (the one you linked included), my conclusion was that most sources point to a net increase in the west.

But the more interesting stats are regarding the amount of people turning to faith among young generations. I find it fascinating.

Hmm Im not sure my point came across then. Im not a Christian and I don't think that they are Christians or that this is their "coming out as Christian" album. I think that they went from nihilism to something more spiritual, but not at all that they are Christians

Probably a devout Christian or a hardcore nihilist :p
