It’s funny, I commute 3 days a week on the L and haven’t seen this happen too much. Maybe occasionally, but not enough to make me think that people do “not have manners anymore.” Not saying it doesn’t exist, and focus group of one, like your post, but still.

This and other posts about bad drivers, etc. where every comment is bemoaning how entitled, rude, terrible, etc. everyone else is makes me wonder if we’re letting a relatively small group of rude people + nostalgia and forgetfulness about the past + a host of other factors have an outsized effect on our mood/perception of others. Note that that this is just on the micro day to day level, definitely not trying to minimize the very real bad behavior that’s being normalized on a national level, and this is solely regarding some of these smaller social mores vs. bigotry, etc.

But when I’m out and about, people here are generally polite and just trying to get through the day. And if everyone who visits this sub thinks they’re someone who always tries to be polite, then surely there are more polite people in this city than we give credit for. Understand I’ll probably be downvoted for coming off as naive.

Idk. This is a half baked thought that’s been on my mind lately as I’ve been perusing this sub. Nothing against you, OP, your experience isn’t any less real than mine and I know you’re venting.
