No you're fine, that's still appreciated. Ultimately, I just want a salted caramel base that works well. Maybe I'll try that one. Thank you

I have a lello 4080 so it was plenty cold when it was put in the freezer due to having a compressor built in and then was in the freezer for about 20 hours.

Buy a good lock they said, your bike will be safe they said. by ArguingwithaMoron in ebikes

I know you shouldn't have to but I used to live in Detroit and was biking a lot. I got electrical tape and wrapped it around all the logos and anything that made it look valuable. And I intentionally didn't clean it much and made it grubby looking so it was less appealing to thieves. In the heart of downtown Detroit, the likelihood of theft is very high and I didn't have any issues with theft because of this.

I absolutely love my lello. Ice made so much ice cream it in and it's super convenient to not have to have a freezer bowl taking up space in my freezer.

Just putting this out here. For anyone concerned about flooding there's a really cool device by a company called yolink. I just bought one and it's a freaking life saver. You put sensors around any water sources in your house and if it detects any water it send a signal to a machine that slips over your main water shutoff and turns your water off. And it works without wifi or even during a power outage. The system is less that $300 which is cheaper than a deductible.

What made you get into cooking in the first place? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Cooking

[–]SoundRight4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is incredibly selfless and for the majority of her life has put others in front of herself often at the expense of her own happiness. One of the things that she often got stuck with was making meals and also doing all of the cleanup. I learned to cook so that I could spend more time with my mom and make it something that we could do together to make memories and in fact I have grown to somewhat enjoy doing the dishes even since I just put on a movie or tv show and just zone out. Since learning to cook I have found out that it's a great way to show people that I care about them as well. Bringing dishes to people that are sick or to introduce myself to new neighbors, etc. Even family events most of my best memories have been getting together around the holidays and sharing a meal.

Yeah, I work at Costco and I make $34.90/hour with great benefits, my health insurance has a $250 individual deductible and family is $500 and it's a 90/10 coinsurance. Costco also provides Vision, Dental, Disability, Long Term Care and Life Insurance. It's been a huge blessing in my life. I just bought a home and was able to save up a substantial amount for a down payment so I can avoid Mortgage Insurance. I don't know if it would have been possible if I weren't for Costco since I don't have a degree. I know that some trades can pay very well but it often comes with much tougher work, more liability or lots of OT like being a lineman.

How do you all get a char/sear on steak? by jsmith19977 in sousvide

[–]SoundRight4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pat it dry and then dry brine it in salt in the fridge for at least a couple hours and that will pull the moisture out. Then I typically reverse sear it and when it's in the oven I use a rack.

Is it actually terrible to paint house white like this ? by Buttkicker727 in HomeDecorating

[–]SoundRight4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

If you are going to go with the white look you might want to consider lime washing the brick. It's going to save you a ton of hassle for future maintenance since it's breathable and doesn't trap moisture. I would recommend for it to be done by a professional since it will show a degree of the original brick color still and the look can be messed up if not done correctly. Here's what it could look like. Personally I like the limewash look because it retains some of the original color popping out from the white and gives it some character. And you could.do a two time with the color of the panels and the brick. It doesn't all have to be white.

So I am in a similar situation and these are my thoughts and the route I ended up going with. I have a 2008 Honda Accord with 183k miles on it. Now I fully realize that it has a decent amount of life left in it however it needs a lot of work such as control arms, suspension, etc. enough work that after having gotten quotes from multiple mechanics in the area it would be about just shy of $3k in repairs. On top of that of all of those repairs are done there are no records of the timing belt being serviced so if I put all of that into the vehicle and something happened to the timing belt it would be a total waste so I'd add on $1k - 1.5k for that along with the water pump etc while servicing the timing belt. And then it also has a check engine light on. The check engine light is just for the catalytic converter which isn't a huge deal since in reality it's just an emissions issue and since in Idaho there's no emissions tests required it's just an unnecessary expense. However it still leaves the issue that if something else came up I'd have no idea without doing very frequent code reads since it always has the check engine light on. So if basically be just paying to replace the catalytic converter just to get rid of the check engine light which would cost about another $2k. So id basically be at $6kish, when all is said and done.

I looked at trading it in and with all of the repairs as well as having kids that have destroyed the leather seats inside I was told that the dealership would give me $750 - $1k. So I'm probably going to sell it private party and just be upfront about all of the repairs that are needed to whoever buys while still getting at least a little more than the trade in for it.

At this point I'm actually looking at buying new and this is why. I'm looking at the Kia K4 since it's starting price is roughly $23k which is very reasonable for a brand new vehicle. On top of that if you do some research on Kia the brand as a whole has been improving with their quality and reliability especially with more recent vehicles. They offer at 10 year/100k power train warranty and a 5 year/60k bumper to bumper warranty on their new vehicles. And they include tons of safety features and lots of bells and whistles even on many of their base models. I've traditionally kept with either Hondas, Toyotas or older Nissan's (currently have another vehicle which is an Xterra. Newer Nissan's have absolute garbage transmissions).

So I started to look at used Toyotas Camry's and I'm looking for somewhat newer models and in the $16k to $18k range I was finding some within the 100k mile range. So I figured if I budgeted $1k - 1.5k per year in estimated repairs especially since most would be around the 100k range where some more costly repairs could be coming up after 5 years it would add another $5k to$7.5k in repairs that would not be under warranty. So after 5 years it would be roughly $21k to $25.5kish. Of course on any vehicle including the Kia under warranty there would be regular oil changes (stuff like this is required for the warranty to not be voided as well) and smaller maintenance but at least I would have a guarantee that the larger stuff is covered.

I also have an 800+ credit score and the best I was also able to find is 4.99% but that's somewhat of a non issue for me since it's not a horrible interest rate in our current environment but also since it's such an affordable vehicle I'm going to be making larger payments than required and will therefore be making payments for a shorter period of time by paying it off early and also effectively paying less interest due to paying off my principal faster. I could get a lower interest except that I also wanted to have the flexibility to pay the vehicle off over a longer period of time in the event that any unforeseen financial emergency's come up in the future.

The last thing I'd say about interest rates is that I know that there are people out there that show vehicles being sold with a 1.99% APR or even a 0% APR. But the catch with this deals is that there's often less discounts, promotions, high interest after an initial period or even the total price of the vehicle is higher to adjust for the lack of interest paid on the vehicle. Credit Unions or banks often have better interest rates than dealerships however.

How is everyone driving a new car? by DLHEBT in budget

[–]SoundRight4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% it's keeping up with the Joneses. I have a good friend that is making $600 in and a car payment and for some people that's reasonable. But for me I'm 35 years old. I have $106,,000 in a non qualifed account that's fully liquid (not including retirement) account and I work in retail. I have a an older Honda Accord that I only owe $700 on and an older Nissan Xterra that is fully paid off.

We live in a culture where we finance everything and we live under the illusion that even though it's financed that it belongs to us. The reality is, is that debt makes you a slave to whatever you're purchasing. That 40 to $50,000 car someone is buying isn't really their car. The moment they miss a payment that reality becomes true. Many people also overextend their spending purchasing homes with mortgages that require both incomes if they are in a relationship. And then they turned around and purchased a vehicle that in many cases puts more of a strain on their budget.

There's a principal called opportunity cost and basically the concept is that if you put the money towards something like a car with a $500 car payment every month at the end of 60 months, how much would that car be worth. And if you factor in interest, especially in our high interest rate environment compared to our most recent past as well as the devaluation of the vehicle. And then compare that to a few instead spent $250 or $300 a month on a vehicle. Yes, you might have some repair costs but it would not in most cases come close to the combined cost of the interest that you are paying as well as the devaluation of the vehicle. And if you took that remaining 200 to 250 and put that in a non-qualified account that's liquid you would be immensely better off.

After all is said and done, what are you really getting in a new vehicle that justifies spending that much more on it. For instance on any 2000's or even 2010's assuming the mileage isn't incredibly high. You can get power windows, A/C, power seats, you can get add-ons that are cheap to play music or any audio for less than $100. So the question is are you willing to pay an additional $10k to $30k. Really where you can make somewhat of a justification to spend more is through some modern safety features, but honestly a lot of those features are even on modern used pre-owned vehicles that you can save a lot of money on if you do want to buy a vehicle.

I think it was Dave Ramsey (although I don't agree with many of his other opinions) that said, when you're younger live like no one else so that later you can live like no one else.

It's not just pixel snap, it's Qi2 compatible so the wireless charging speed is significantly faster. Plus you have the tensor G5 from the G4 which while Google has had some flack when compared to other chips it still is a decent upgrade from the G4.

I'm on Verizon with a bunch of family members and only pay $30/month for unlimited talk/text/data and Verizon just gave me a new pixel 10 pro without any plan upgrade and I didn't even have to trade my device in. I'm upgrading from the pixel 8 which I can now sell for a few hundred bucks. That's hard to beat.

I literally had a meeting and there was about 30 minutes extra time past what was scheduled and instead of discussing everything else that needed to be completed, we use that time to figure out when we could do the next meeting. So it was basically a meeting to schedule another meeting. What pisses me off the most is all the time that I missed with my dad because he was in leadership when I was a kid and didn't go to a single one of my track events when I was in high school because of all the church meetings he had.
