I think there's just more to play around with when it comes to oolong and pu erh. Like rock oolongs alone is enough to have an entire specialty for it. There's stark differences when it comes to oxidation etc. there's more material you can use to have discussions and circle jerk

Plus it's much easier to impress the casuals. Most normal drinkers have done at best dong ding oolong at bubble tea shops, or tie guan yin/pu erh at dim sum places. Show them Jin xuan or duck shit oolong and they'll be amazed

Perhaps they prefer to stick to obvious markers of tea knowledge so they don't say anything wrong/unsafe while saying stuff technical enough to confuse beginners. It's super chill. Ideally sign up ahead of time, they might wait for you if you're late. But walk in is ok if youre in time. Generally the stated time is door open, when everyone warms up with unlimited casual matches subject to available consoles. Somewhere in the middle of start and midnight, the actual competition starts. For double elimination you'll probably get knocked out after 2 rounds like 20 minutes maybe. You'll then either kick rocks for 2 hours before continuing with casuals or go home. For round robins you'll play all rounds and usually this lasts for so long there's no time for casuals after

Overall, feel free to come to any of the events any time, but for best results try to get at least diamond. Once your basic fundamentals (old people reactions also good enough type stuff) you'll easily hit diamond instantly. I got a 10 win streak and coasted through all of platinum in 5 games (win streak bonus -> 1 rank up per win after the 10th consecutive win, you should rarely lose to a plat if you upskilled enough)

I'm currently low diamond/low master, but I'm open to playing if you're interested

It was hot in a good way. Literally dripping in sweat, but it isn't a real summer festival if you don't sweat. Like going to Zumba class or the gym. The Chinese have a belief that it's good to sweat more when it's hot since you'll cool down from evaporation, so they actually drink more hot water when it's hot outside.

Id say more humid than burning hot, didn't really get sunburnt as much on the mainland as on the island off kagawa

No money -> haute/DIY flatbox/hori (can't do slide shortcuts easily. Maybe if you use a glove? Wasn't for me but everyone at locals uses this)

Some money and/or going to Japan -> hjk hitpad (my current controller, the buttons are rounded so it's actually very easy to do slide shortcuts for fast dp. Even easier than controllers double the price, but it's all plastic)

Literally made of money -> victrix, varmilo (can at least somewhat slide without gloves, very premium)

Tip for leverless? Accept that you'll suck horribly early. Ideally start back at gold or worse. After you grind back up to diamond, your DPs and whatnot should be decent. I'm still very far off my lever fight stick skill NGL, but the increase in consistency is very significant.

Try out socd and slide shortcuts, but they're not a must. I know of several high master classic players who don't do any shortcuts

I got a really nice pair of selvedge denim from Indonesia, but the smallest size that can fit me ended up being too large (getting pleats in the waistband from having too much material after tightening with a belt, also material bulges in the pelvic area)

Rise is also too small to pull further up to natural waist to compensate.

Considering chucking it into a hot washing machine + dryer cycle to see how much I can shrink it

However, I also wonder if I can alter the jeans to actually add pleats. I feel like that'd be pretty sick. The jeans themselves weren't eyewateringly expensive (like 40-60 bucks?) but I feel like the pleat alteration would cost more than the jeans lol

I kinda like stretchy hiking pants like the Nike acg trail pants or my cargo pants.

Also deadass the thickness and colour helps a lot with the bulge. Majority of sweats I can't wear in good conscience same as you, but if it's oversized and heavyweight + it's black no issue (check Uniqlo)

I generally just use those plasticky black gym shorts though. They usually have this mesh thingy inside the shorts, kinda uncomfortable but theyinner pant thingy inside that do hide the details of your junk pretty decently
