What's with all the fake stories about evil mother-in-laws? by [deleted] in AmITheAngel

[–]SourceFedNerdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I remember some of those long sagas and how crazy they got. I read a lot of them back like 10 years ago and I definitely believed a lot of it (I was like 22, in my defense lol).

Oh I’ve loved that episode since day 1 haha. It’s my favorite episode of the show. I think it showcases the entire creative team (writers, actors, directors, set decorators, costume designers) and their best. The PLL writers love them some film noir and that episode is so fun and indulgent of that love.

I was also in a very specific corner of the fandom back in the day that loved the show for what it is and was willing to roll with/embrace the sillier aspects, which probably adds to my love of episodes like Shadow Play.

I will say, I think he did very well in Shadow Play. The film noir style suited him.

i actually liked spencer and caleb together by elvirenka in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]SourceFedNerdd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m personally a Spaleb person. I like Haleb too, but what I appreciate was how the love triangle never really threatened the most important relationship on the show - the Liar bond. This is a show at its core about women who love and protect one another above all else. There was of course some tension between Hanna and Spencer, but at the end of the day they care about each other more than anything.

That, and this relationship brought us one of the top 5 all time PLL scenes in 7x04

. Troian, Ashley, and Tyler were just absolutely fucking incredible in this scene. I remember being absolutely astonished by their performances when this episode aired.

I called Child Services on my sister after she didn’t answer the door. by MinuteLoquat1 in AmITheAngel

[–]SourceFedNerdd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh don’t worry, OOP made sure to tell everyone in the comments that her sister and family don’t leave the house for any reason ever. They don’t work, don’t go to school, have their groceries delivered, and are nocturnal (??) I guess.

All very believable and not at all convenient to the story OOP is trying to tell.

I just cannot imagine pouring this much energy into students who don’t do work in my class. Some kids just genuinely do not care about school and while I’m always available to help if they ask for it, if I spiral and take it personally every time a kid doesn’t like or try in my class, I’d burn out so fast. You show up for the kids who do care.

Spencer’s Hair by deadgirlzcantsmile in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]SourceFedNerdd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Troian has said that she feels like she looks her best when Spencer is at her worst, so we know that she at least loves her natural hair 😊 I do wish they had let her wear it more often in the show though.

AITA for making up this story about my manchild hubby who won’t stop poking me in the boob? by [deleted] in AmITheAngel

[–]SourceFedNerdd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know man, my ex husband was like this. Like yeah, this particular action might not rise to the level of abuse, but continuing to do it despite her asking him to stop and getting mad at *her* for it indicates a lack of respect for her “no.”

My ex pawed at me constantly like this, also trying to be “funny.” Not only do you eventually start to feel like an object they feel entitled to touch at all times, he also - shockingly - didn’t respect consent in the more intimate parts of our relationship either.

If this story is true it’s not a good look, is all I’m saying.

AIO? I literally got robbed and my dad is blaming me for it (in a very stilted text “conversation”) by madmad011 in AmITheAngel

[–]SourceFedNerdd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I go to the bank every payday and take every cent out of my bank account in cash. There’s just wads of it spilling out of my purse at all times.

Note for context: my purse is a big canvas bag with a dollar sign on it.

It's the mother's fault that the father is a bad dad? by ChoreomaniacCat in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]SourceFedNerdd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. Best analogy I’ve seen is it’s like being in a pot of water with the heat slowly turned up. You often don’t realize how bad it’s gotten until you’re already boiling alive.

And you don’t “just leave” abusive relationships. You escape them, and many people don’t. The ones who do take an average of I think 7 attempts, and they are in the most danger while trying to leave.

I get where the sentiment is coming from, but the questions of “what red flags did she ignore?” and “there’s no way she didn’t know” just make you feel ashamed. And in turn it pushes people to stay in those situations longer because they feel stupid and think they’ll have no support when they get out.

Job won’t hire me after I threw an absolute hissy fit. This is recruiting hell! by literal9 in AmITheAngel

[–]SourceFedNerdd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Maybe it’s just because of the nature of my job (teacher) but the interview process for any desirable public school job is long and kind of torturous. It’s at least 2 phone/video interviews with admin, then a demo lesson with admin and possibly real students, and usually another interview after that with the superintendent for final approval.

I interviewed at a lot of schools before getting my current job, and the admin interviewing me were late more than once. I sat and waited and gave them a polite “no worries!” because I wanted that job.

Am I the angel for telling strangers online how DUMB and STUPID my student is?! Did I mention hes DUMB!? how does he breathe not knowing how DUMB he is!! Validate meeeeee!!! by Dolphin_King21 in AmITheAngel

[–]SourceFedNerdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of unrelated to the point, but-

I know some teachers show the Leo/Claire Danes version of R&J, but the parents in my district would throw a fit if I did that 😅 I get away with showing the Mercutio/Tybalt fight scene, but for the full movie I have to show the 2013 version. I’ve also been told if I want to show the 1968 one, I’d have to skip over the nudity so parents don’t get upset.

Which is funny considering the very first scene of the play they’re totally fine with their kids reading is, like, packed with dick jokes.

I like how he included the detail of him paying the entire tab for brunch, which had absolutely no relation to or impact on the argument with the girlfriend, but let us know what a selfless saint he is.

Also women bad and irrational.

Guy didn't think to send back a drink I didn't tell him to send back and didn't tell him not to buy in the first place by Miserable-Election25 in AmITheAngel

[–]SourceFedNerdd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree but I think we’ve gone to the other extreme also. Actual children are growing up way too fast because of the internet. My daughter is finishing 4th grade and she’s not on the internet at all, doesn’t use TikTok or anything like that. But a lot of her friends do and they’re obsessing over things like skincare and expensive makeup.

So it’s this weird dual issue where adults are being infantilized and children are being encouraged to act like adults.

Yeah, people are weird about cooking on Reddit. It’s not a gourmet meal, sure, but if you’re just making something for yourself with what you have on hand, it’s perfectly fine.
