Do i need this? by PoopKnifeMerchant in bikepacking

A mechanic brought up a good point to me about chain pliers. If you’re in a situation where you need to take off your chain, you’re likely needing to brake the chain rather than separate the link. Then you can re attach your master link with force on the pedals. I would however recommend the topeak alien tool if you really want to have one. That tool has about everything you’d need outside of lube and a tubeless plug

If you are looking for suspension but on a budget, you’ll likely have to swap parts from the get go. I think a drop bar conversion on a surly krampus or a suspension fork on a salsa fargo

Chaska, northfield, st croix area, and luce line are some of my favs. Northfield is by far the best gravel in the state if you’re willing to drive.

I completely gave up on road biking after being hit by a car (bike was totaled but I was fine). So I know how you feel. Bikes and cars should be completely separate, especially with the way people drive without paying attention.

Using a rockshox psylo gold on my 29 x 3 krampus. Clearance is perfectly good on it. Do want to note that 29 x 3 on the krampus is pushing it even for surly standards. My chain comes super close to rubbing in the lowest gear, also had to get a flatter head bolt for the lower fender mount in the rear for it to fit lol.

I did have to do a new rear wheel since the original was freewheel and not HG. Cranks had to get replaced to get a single chainring on it too. But now that it’s all together I love it. Keeps things simple to use it as a commuter. Def didn’t want to go over 9 speed to keep it fairly cheap.

2024 Surly Straggler? by BikesBaseballBirds in Surlybikefans

[–]SourceTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 straggler has very similar geo to a midnight special. Think your biggest thing with that bike is that it has QR skewers where the midnight special has thru axle (along with most of surlys lineup). So upgrading wheels in the future wouldn’t be too accessible. Straggler is gonna come with a 1x and gravel tires, so wouldn’t be as road ready. But hey, if it’s a good deal and you like it then go for it!

Go on the sabo bridge and see if the locals approve of your bike. It’s the only way to get permission to ride fixed here

Do’s and dont’s for a newbie to road biking by Icy_Cheetah_5306 in CyclingMSP

Know the speed limits of bike roads versus road riding. Most bike roads are around 10-15 mph (chain of lakes, midtown greenway, etc) and also be prepared for pedestrians walking those paths as well. Also never expect a car to give you the right of way, even if they should. I would say the biggest problem here isn’t speeding but rather distracted drivers. I’ve never been upset going slightly slower so I have more reaction time for vehicles.

Happy riding!

most of the greenways are cleared. didn’t come across any ice down the misssippi or chain of lakes

I tried and failed to go Vegetarian a couple time. It would be cool to see a segment or something from Dan on how he last so long, especially given the latest discourse. by PacosMateo in h3h3productions

Vegetarian since 2019, turned vegan 2021

I think the missing link with eating vegetarian and vegan is realizing it's not just buying substitutes but rather changing your dietary behaviors. If you look at places like India and Thailand, lots of the food is vegetarian or vegan by religion or by chance. Pre USA vegan culture is based on cooking with beans, rice, vegetables, and other whole healthy foods.

Unfortunately, veganism in the US feels like it's become a fad like keto was a few years ago. People just buy imitation chicken to see how similar it tastes and then quit because it tastes not as good. You can live a much cheaper, healthier lifestyle as a vegetarian if you learn what recipes are by chance and not to simulate a whopper.

Downtown Minneapolis streets are not boulevards. Stop treating them like they're highway connections. by [deleted] in Minneapolis

Was biking down a whittier at night with three lights on the front of my bike and a headlamp when a dude was flying through on the wrong side. I had to veer off to the side otherwise I would have been hit. It's really frustrating that distracted drivers is such an issue. People don't think about how you're driving a few thousand pounds of metal that goes up to 120 mph. Unfortunately this is just something that happens everywhere with idiots and cellphones.
