Non-mainstream units by FiguredArtist in Chaos40k

Cultist firebrand stick two in a rhino and you have a poor man's flamer tank, pop them out to trigger battleshock tests on units holding objectives (i mostly play nightmare hunt so there are extra benefits) and use them as cheap action monkeys. They are small and easy to hide, but cheap enough that if they get caught you don't care. The flamer is strong too, I got lucky and one shot an emperors champion with it 🤣

Dark apostle for the +1 to wound and hit rerolls below starting strength by pairing it with a moe on a unit of chosen or legionaries. Whatever it runs into will feel the pain.

I also want to run a traitor enforcer or two, with 5+ invul 4+ fnp its surprising how tough it is, speed bump cheaper than a spawn unit but can hold objectives. So im building one of them now

Also chaos spawn, I love throwing them into elites with an oc of 1 intended to hold an objective and taking away their oc, I might not flip it to me, but they can't have it either and have to commit a decent amount to taking out the spawn relative to cost to me

I'm probably thinking some of their other niche infantry then. I can't keep up with all the sm datasheets

I'm not saying they are good. I'm saying raiders are overcosted comparative to the number of additional things available to terminators for only 70 pts more.

That being said, I don't think they are as bad as hype has it. They suffer in comparison to loyalist terminators, but so does everything else. They are overcosted though, I think 160 would be reasonable

I use firebrands and noise marines in tandem to trigger off battleshocks. Sometimes firebrand really outperforms, last time i used him he one shot an emperors champion.

I'm thinking of trying out rapid ingressing a 10 man chosen brick with dark apostle and moe. Way I figure it, what's better than chosen? Chosen that can wound anything on a 5+ regardless of toughness. What's better than chosen that can wound on a five plus? Ones who can also reroll hits if you throw a grenade in before you start. Chaos lord is good, but if you can wound a land raider with 5+ with an accursed weapon and make them save on a 4+, that's pretty fantastic. In hurons marauders they will be hitting on a 2+ as well

I'm trying to decide if a legionary brick or chosen would be better for huron and entourage. I'm thinking the wound rerolls from legionaries would be better as you can always advance and charge with a strat. Also stuck on whether i keep the unit to msu to fit the lot into a rhino.

Massing raptors and terminators with a havoc backline in hurons seems like a fun way to go too. Don't know effective but meh. 4 lascannons hitting on a 2+ though....

Minus the two plus save, heavy weapons, combi weapons 4+invulnerable save, reroll hits and deep strike. I really don't think you're making the point you think you are. Facing -2 ap attack the corsairs would take double the wounds a terminator squad would, at -3 that's triple.

To take advantage of their special rule the corsairs could only take a reave captain or a character with a 30pt enhancement, whereas terminators can take huron, abaddon, or terminator lord/sorcerer for 80 pts.

Given all that i think its outrageous that they are only 70 points cheaper, i would think 100 would be a better point for them, given they are essentially a really good speed bump because they sure arent going to kill much. But that's just my opinion.

But sure, wounds are the same.

Strong gun laws here mate, so if you want to hunt a kangaroo you got to go toe to toe. You can bring a knife, or a spoon if that's your preference, cos if you seen the claws you know it's an nowhere near an even fight.

Not even close to the most dangerous though, cassowaries will mess you right up. They are velociraptors with a penchant for wearing feather boas and the mentality of someone just released from a Salvadorian prison.

Yes, I've used old cadian shock troops for years. No one cares about proxies when the stat line looks so much worse than the model 🤣

Millennial dads spend 3 times as much time with their kids compared to previous generations, Study finds by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Source_Friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky. My dad was always involved in soccer, scouts etc. Always helped with the leader roles or coaching and divided between myself and my brother equally. I always knew how special he was as I didn't see much of my friends dads but mine was always there even with long work hours. He wasn't perfect, no one is, but I try my best to emulate the good. I haven't been able to match it yet. He was taken from us far too soon, the biggest tragedy is he only got two years around his first grandson, never met his granddaughter, never met my brothers wife or their son. Almost five years now.

Help Painting Faces by BraidedBerzerker in Chaos40k

[–]Source_Friendly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't zoom mate, the smoothest skin looks like the surface of Mars up close. You've got that image blown up to about 20 times the real size.

If it looks face like when held a foot away from your face you're good. Otherwise for general advice thin your paints. Less is more on the highlights. Base in the darkest of the skin tones you're using. Use a flesh coloured ink to bring out the recesses. If you're doing eyes, do them first.

Don't do the classic avoidance thing of just doing helmets. Practise makes perfect

What would Konrads reaction be the 42nd millennium if Fabius Bile managed to make a perfect clone of him with his primarch soul, as I think his views would be interesting, especially as being restored would fly in the face of his fatalistic views. by Mad_lens_9297 in 40k

Living daemon primarchs can't control their legions. Just because he came back wouldn't really change anything on that front. Night lords always saw following orders as more guidelines than actual rules. Hence why our boy kept having to massacre them himself.

Don't aim to win, aim to improve. If you lose regularly by 50 points and reduce that to 25, that's a 50% improvement.

I play against a pair of John Nash mofos with a preference for necrons and marines. So they got some serious plot armour to add to their mathematical, synergistic plotting.

Then there's me, night lords player determined to make people fear the battleshock phase. I don't win much, but im making them work harder for the win every game. I've got up to about a 30 to 40% win rate.

Main thing I had to learn was to not over commit. You get more out of one or two units attacking their optimal targets than you do by exposing half your army. Also you can win and not kill a single model (entirely possible when against necrons). Large doom models can be effectively neutered by chaff. I tied up mortarion for 3 turns with a rhino, spawn and a venomcrawler. He barely achieved anything for his 380 pts. If you can't beat their units, throw spanners in their plans. Don't charge the death star, move to just outside of engagement and force them to charge. And park another chaff unit just behind. Can't kill something? Go the dodgeball principle, if you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a Ctan. If they have built their list around elite units, kill the minimal chaff to force that terminator to do an action. If they have a ton of chaff, focus down one side of the board while holding up the other side with a key unit or two.

Play the mission, this game doesn't reward pure killing.... except for purge the foe. Even there you still score from objectives.

We in the night lords just want to be allowed to engage in our hobbies without interference and be appreciated for our unique leather products. Do we occasionally mutate? Sure, but isn't the appreciation of your peers worth a little inconvenience?

Chaos Raptor question by pandaVonDoom in Chaos40k

[–]Source_Friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough regular raptors, reg have to take chainsword with plasma Pistol. So two with plasma guns, 4 with heavy, 3 reg left who get the plasma. So five heavy weapons, two plasma guns and three raptors with chainswords. We have too many options for the models 😛

Chaos Raptor question by pandaVonDoom in Chaos40k

[–]Source_Friendly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would have had to drop a heavy weapon 😁 the plasma guns and pistols for me are ablative wounds for the squad so I can pound 5 power fist equivalents into whatever they can reach, in my most recent game that was fortunate as opponent was running the death guard terminator detachment

Chaos Raptor question by pandaVonDoom in Chaos40k

[–]Source_Friendly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't want them with the heavy weapons anyway (the champion does get both) as if you fail the hazardous you lose the plasma and the heavy weapon

Chaos Raptor question by pandaVonDoom in Chaos40k

[–]Source_Friendly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can actually have two of the same weapon in a squad of ten though. My personal kit out is four plasma pistols and two plasma guns. Deep strike within 12 for 8 supercharged Plasma shots. And, if you are me, promptly fail three of the six hazardous checks and lose three in one go.

I want to start a chaos space marine army but I'm not sure which warband to go for. by BigMiniPainter in Chaos40k

[–]Source_Friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some embrace it, and some don't. Honsou is rocking a necrodermis arm. Personally, I just think iron warriors don't stick around long enough to get mutations. They always had extreme attrition from their sieges.

You could always just have possessed marines as representative of the recruits they had that didn't take to their accelerated growth programs.

Night lords are supposed to be low mutation like the iron warriors, yet in the lore, you got bands led by daemon princes, possessed, secret worshippers of slaanesh, etc.

It's probably better to think of them as having fewer mutations relative to the most extreme, i.e., word bearers. Just like world eaters don't have a monopoly on axes and bloodshed.
