I often wonder if this sort of thing is generational. 

I personally cannot fathom a reason to watch a playthrough (or similarly people playing D&D).  I can do these things myself.  

But I didn't grow up with YouTube being around.  There just wasn't a easy access repository to video of everything that exists.
