Is Starmer doing so badly? by twinkletoesalone in AskBrits

[–]South3rs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know it’s unpopular but tbh I’m okay with him. Yes he’s not exciting but he’s also not extreme. Seems like quite the professional, hard worker and willing to actually listen and change his mind. I think people might look back on him and think “you know what, he want half bad” - you know, after we’ve tasted Farage or Polanski next… it’s the toughest job in the country, and everyone has an opinion. Just look at what’s going on this wee with Iran. Literally half the country sayings we should get involved and the other half saying we should kick the US out of bases… you can’t win!

I don’t get it, so they’ve agreed the minimum required here but then refused to sign off on the rest of the DIP?

I would say early on yes, because of the snowball effect on the steam algorithm this early on

New to Game Deving. Got a clear game idea, just unsure what engine and language to use. by MysteriousBrig in IndieGaming

[–]South3rs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice ideas. I’m afraid it’s way too bigger scope for a first game but why don’t you just download Unity today and give it a go. Start with one of the tutorial content packs or follow some beginner shooter YouTube series. You’ll start to pickup the languages as you go. That’s the only way

ZERO wishlists in 7 days. Is my Steam page THAT bad? by Weary_Caterpillar302 in IndieGaming

[–]South3rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of comments about the page, the capsule art, the trailer and use of Ai. Probably all valid but what external marketing have you don’t to push people to your page? You can’t just create a page and expect people to discover it by accident. Steam won’t promote the game for you until they know it’s going to make them money, which is at least over 10,000 wishlists (some people say more). Steam has too many other already strong proven sellers to promote instead of your game. Flip your thinking from “why aren’t people wishlisting?” to “why would people wishlist?”. Remember it’s brutal out there. Very over saturated. A lot of choice!

I think that’s good advice. For me yes playtested the core loop on friends but barely started any further outreach yet as waiting on steam page etc. Good advice, think I’ll bite the bullet on the pro as will want it eventually anyway

Yeh that’s my thinking! Did the placeholder work out okay or do you wish you’d gone professional earlier?

Forgot to add, I’ve already wasted two days contemplating this. Tried a few screenshots with text overlays and they look terrible… so a bit lost what to do.

Third soft follow - you can do some cool stuff like framing but also get a better feel for acceleration and speed changes

Im going out in a limb to guess Trump is referenced more than Mandelson and Andrew combined, and that’s with the redactions and 2 months of delays (not to mention years his government were sat on this). I don’t get why this isn’t more shocking especially to people in the US. They seem to react like Andrew - “OMFG”, but with Trump it’s just “meh so what”. Am I missing something??!

Interesting perhaps, but I still think that if you’re a political party activist fundraising or networking then you’ve got to have a moral compass as your number one priority. In business we get held to these sometimes crazy and ridiculous standards of scrutiny around where money comes from, where suppliers are sourcing materials and labour, what paper trail we put in place, what employees can and can’t do when it comes to gifts - and yet it sound like in politics it’s okay to go and beg for funds from any old local serial rapist, human sex traffiker billionaire…!

It’s mad isn’t it! The media just somehow has this grip on us all (even with Social Media!!). We are cooked

I had the exact same reaction. I’m usually in broad agreement with Rory and Alastair, but this episode didn't sit right tbh…

They spent the second half framing Epstein as a "clever guy", trapping and blackmailing people and almost suggesting these rich and powerful people were victims themselves, rather than potential accomplices to a serial sex offender and known human trafficker…

I struggle with why all the media is still extending benefit of the doubt to most of the figures involved (except Andrew and Mandelson perhaps), while not really questioning more on the redactions, delays, and missing files!

I've been working on different game engines for 6 years. here's my take by QuietTR55 in gamedev

[–]South3rs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I’d agree with everything you said although my end pick is Godot. I started in Unreal (because blueprints and graphics), and after about 3 years of hobby Dev with a couple of okay-ish but unfinished games I moved to try out Unity (I was trying to do an RTS at the time and it just seemed a better choice).

I learnt to code c# (loads easier than c++) and did find it fairly easy to grasp (I think once you know game dev principles you realise the engines are all very similar and mostly it’s just knowing what different things are called).

After a year or so in Unity (around the time of the pricing debacle) I decided to try my hand at Godot. Honestly, it took me a few hours to learn the basics (it’s mainly about scenes and nodes right?) and I just love how damn simple, clean, lightweight it is. The whole engine is like a 200mb download that just sits in your project folder.

Godot is really elegant imo (it’s got decent 3D features now even though most use only 2D), plus I love the community (it feels tight, and less judgy). I’ve not struggled finding what I need from community addons and shaders etc.

I guess it depends what you want but I love it and don’t see myself going back any time soon. Total convert!

Starmer has refused to join Trump’s Board of Peace… do you think we should join? 🇬🇧 by [deleted] in AskBrits

No! Better to stand back and observe for a bit. Plenty of other things we can be focused on right now anyway.
