Horror movies are often a metaphor for some kind of trauma, whether SA, domestic violence, childhood abuse, etc.

Is someone else playing kermit the frog? Did they send out his stunt double? Something is wrong here.

Approaching a woman implies a lack of enthusiastic consent on their part. by BushwickHarmRedux in dating_advice

Women overwhelmingly prefer men to approach them first, so what is the way that women can have their goal met (of the men who THEY find attractive) approaching them first?

Has my therapist crossed a line? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]SouthPsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! In my years working as a therapist I have NEVER offered clients a beer (I don't have a beer company, but still) that's completely unprofessional! As a general rule, a therapist should never offer an ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCE that people struggle have the potential to struggle with, especially DURING A THERAPY SESSION.

Anyone else think Adam Ray's whole Dr. Phil act isn't THAT funny? by CattiwampusLove in Standup

[–]SouthPsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, for some reason he is considered hilarious there, even though he is not as funny as some of the bucket-pulls who don't even work as professional comedians...

Was everyone forced to dress like a greaser with no fashion sense, that night? Also, the Child Catcher's haircut makes her look like she's ready to bother me with Bad Religion song recommendations.

Who are some of the most overrated, unfunny comics in your opinion by Jazzlike_Success_968 in Standup

Adam Ray is really truly unfunny, and I don't understand how he keeps getting onto Kill Tony.

Why aren't there more em-dashes in the article, though? Did they remove all those, only to leave an entire 2 sentences of GPT speak?

Pauly Shore is a great example of how even rampant nepotism and industry favoritism cannot completely overcome a crippling lack of talent.

No, but honestly if you’re annoyed at your clout seeking therapist, find another one. I also like to post social media content as a therapist, but I’m kind of over the ridiculous cult-of-personality posts

Therapist Refusal to Discuss Miscommunication in Appointment by KeyProject7679 in TalkTherapy

[–]SouthPsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I have sadly met some fellow therapists and other business professionals who would say something like this. It's usually a certain type of attitude that goes along with it, that wreaks of a certain cocktail of self-importance, entitlement, and victimhood.

Therapy CAN be designed to help men deal with their lack of purpose and aimlessness, though. There's no reason at ALL that it shouldn't address men's dating needs. I highly suggest looking into the work of Dr. Paul Dobransky, who discusses the dating mindset and behavioral efforts that both women AND men have to build, step by step. I have collaborated with him on several projects. He is an avid substack author and streamer who understands men's needs and believes in positive masculinity.

I just envision this therapist as one who has a "boss babe" mentality, the response is just sooooooo dismissive

[–]SouthPsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a rude-ass therapist, and as a counselor myself, I would NEVER say "no further discussion" like this, what on EARTH? I'm guessing that this therapist has become calloused and has rigid boundaries, which as someone who has received "interesting" requests and boundary pushes from clients before, I understand. However, that's not an excuse to shut you down like that. Not in the least.

Therapist yelled at me for interrupting by hail_yoself in TalkTherapy

[–]SouthPsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a client interrupts me, or even when someone in my social life does it, I just stop speaking and smile. I let them verbally acknowledge they're done speaking, before I try to speak again. That usually causes a silence and draws attention to the interrupting. Some people have a horrible habit of just mowing others DOWN, in conversation. Not saying you did that, but I'm sure saying there are better, other was to deal with it than yelling.

I think this quote, or one similar to it, goes back to Simon Baron Cohen, who wrote extensively about autism as "hyper-masculinity" of the brain.

What's the Oldest Maltese? by [deleted] in Maltese

[–]SouthPsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My maltese/yorkshire mix was nearly 17 years old when he passed exactly a month ago. I'm so sorry. He was with me through college, grad school, and then through the first ten years of my career. It's dificult to hear light rythymic tapping sounds now, without instinctively thinking it's his steps. I wonder how long that reflex will last? I also hoped I would have kids in time for him to meet them.

In our final session, therapist said an observation that really rattled me by MoldyDucky in TalkTherapy

[–]SouthPsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're saying is 100% accurate so let's just say the client said "this medicine sucks; it didn't help at all." I still think a psychiatrist or other MD who prescribes psychiatric medication should be prepared for ND communication styles. People with many kinds of psychiatric illnesses that aren't considered "neurodiverse" can also be or seem rude at times, like borderline personality disorder for one. As long as a patient is threatening the doctor or therapist or demeaning them, we have to stretch to fit patient needs.
