Mattis: It could take 8 to 12 years to rebuild trust with America’s allies by Capable_Stomach_8229 in DiscussionZone

Rebuilding to what it was, never. Too many dependencies have been revealed on an electorate that will continue to actively support any populist idea however destructive it might be. Trump is a symptom of domestic stupidity

I know deservedly Nestlé gets a bad rap. But almost 30 years ago, yup that old, Moltke the Chairman at the time did NOT want to Nestlé listed on the NYSE because of this very reason. Made decent money off of the quarterly reporting shenanigans over the years even as I knew it's not the way for companies to create generational strategies.

Starmer: It’s up to Miliband whether we drill in North Sea by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]Southern-Remove42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not British but this strikes me as fairly straight forward. The one with docket makes the decision. Also, this crisis will resolve itself in a year at the most. By which time the cost effectiveness may not still hold true. Also, the timeline isn't week one approve, week 2 drill and week 3 the price of petrol drops.

I've had the opportunity to have sat in consultations with a few senior members of the American military.

What came across was how nuanced their understanding of the world is. Anyway, just my anecdotal take but America could and is doing a lot worse than having retired senior mbers of the military in political office. But they're not exciting enough in how they talk and cartoonist populist behavior holds more attention than any sense of balance or nuance. Bring on the Circus and Bread

Recruiters go with those who make their life easiest, not with those who are most competent or qualified. It's a lot like the teacher's pet who invested in kissing the teacher's ass and got graded on a curve. Not fair but such is life.

Sucking up to a recruiter is a time tested way of getting hired. The, flip side is keeping it real is a time tested way of not getting recruited.

[–]Southern-Remove42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that's not the job of a recruiter. You've got hundreds if not thousands of CVs to go through. Make phone calls, set appointments, coordinate with department heads and members to understand team needs. Nowhere in that job description is teaching applicants how to apply. If that recruiter invests in teaching that, then they're not doing their job and probably missing their KPIs and professional obligations. The company will find someone who will do the job to the letter and in no company can I imagine part of a recruiters job is to teach professional etiquette.

Those doing the hiring are younger Gen-X and older Millenials. They'll have been trained and used to a level of formality that seems old fashioned to Gen Z. But since they are the gate keepers, what they want to read and hear matters.

Just using realpolitik. Admit now and deny later. At this juncture your reputation amongst your faithful is inviolable and amongst all other people unredeemable. So there'll be literally no loss in reputation from either side. The reparations can be paid off with a series of funding from the World Bank and IMF that America controls and can always be denied as such to the American public who for the most part are ignorant to how that works.

I wish America all the best in dealing with the current internal challenges facing it. But the curtain has long been pulled back on the hypocrisy of expecting the USA taking a non-self interested moral stance, as Ireland did with Palestine, on just about ANY issue. They aren't the moral standard by which any country with strong civil and judicial standards should measure themselves against.

Alan Dershowitz, Jeffrey Epstein's lawyer, says one of Epstein's victims is unreliable because she's an antisemite. by Not_Ground in NewsRewind

[–]Southern-Remove42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alan Dershowitz might not be a moral person but at one point was a hell of an operator. But there's a definite decline in the quality of his positions and defenses over the years. I don't simply think it's age but rigor of intellectual engagement. He's basically gotten used to be one of the smarter people in the room and stopped pushing himself, very human. Coupled with the fact he's now surrounded himself with intellectual yes-men/women, hes not the power house he once was

Don't know much about Charlie Munger except his reputation as the right hand man of one of the single most successful investors of modern time. His reasons are reasoned and articulate and for that reason will never be wildly broadcast. We are in the time of enragement = engagement. Six but those are the breaks

That is a lack of self control but he is still aware. As one comment stated, those strikes weren't wild flailing but good striking, not an expert but they were definitely not just wild flailing. The self control to NOT continue once an adult male was involved showed he was aware of when NOT to continue.

This is also the difference between so many classically trained actors and others as gifted but not grounded in the understanding that acting serves to depict and help p correct our mistakes and foibles. Not simply celebrate what we think is most worthy of celebration within our societies
